Why isn't there a Tokyo Disney forum?

While this site is mostly WDW orientated, there are also forums for Disneyland and Disneyland Paris. But I have noticed there is no forum for Tokyo Disney?

Any official reason for the omission?

I was curious too. I have done extensive research on TDL for school. I would love to post on that forum.

I'm a bit of a conspiracy theorist when it comes to Tokyo Disney. Since the resort is not owned by Disney and exceeds Disney's current standards of quality by huge margins, it's in the American company's best interest to downplay Tokyo.

Besides, they already get paid a licensing fee. There is no reason to entice more Americans to visit those parks and lure them away from Paris, Hong Kong, Orlando, and Anaheim, all of which are underperforming to varying degrees. The vast majority of visitors to Tokyo Disney are in fact Japanese and management is not wanting for guests.

Because this board is very heavily orientated to Walt Disney World, much of the advertising is for Disney vacation packages, hotels near Disney World, and other official Disney products. It doesn't make sense for Disboards to go out of their way to help lure (or help people like me lure) would-be Disney World, Disneyland, or Disney Cruise Line guests to Tokyo.

You can't book a Tokyo Disney vacation through Disney, nor are there any Tokyo Disney travel agents like there are for Disney World, that I know of. There is no reason for Americans to talk about Tokyo Disney other than a love for great Disney parks.

Anyway, that's what I think.

interesting! i didn't know it wasn't owned, by them, is it like a franchise??

Sort of.

Basically the Oriental Land Company pays a licensing fee to Disney and Walt Disney Imagineering designed the two parks for them. The OLC is required to maintain the park per Disney standards and usually they exceed those standards.

The deal was attractive to Disney because another company would foot the bill and all Disney had to do was sit back and cash the checks. Some, including myself, say that the reason Tokyo DisneySea is so extravagant is because Disney didn't pay for it. The Walt Disney Co. is a risk adverse company and the Tokyo project was a monumental risk that another company felt was worthwhile.

I believe that there are many people like yourself that have no idea what's going on in Tokyo and if you fully understood what was going on, you might demand higher quality entertainment from the American parks.

To answer your original question, I don't think we've ever received any real interest in having a Tokyo forum. Same goes for Hong Kong. We would also need moderators for those forums who would be very familiar with the parks, thus they would probably need to live in those places.

Paris is different as we have a large number of users who go there (mostly Europeans).

The fact that Tokyo Disneyland is not owned by Disney is not relevant to whether we have a forum or not. For example, we have a Universal/Sea World forum, and obviously they are not owned by Disney either...;)

I think that if a poll were conducted there would be enough interest for one. Besides, there seems to be forums for every subject imaginable here. There's even one for grieving. I don't understand it, but hey, whatever makes people happy.

A mod doesn't necessarily have to have complete knowledge of the forum they are moderating. Their only job is to enforce your community rules, which has nothing to do with whether or not they know what the Keiyo Line is.

I know you don't have the rules for Moderators, basically it's "Moderating 101" for the Disboards. But you might be interested to know that of about 20 main topics, enforcing the board rules isn't mentioned until #11. The first 10 items have nothing to do with enforcing rules and everything to do with being a "Host" for the forum first and moderator second. And as a "host" there are requirements that you are knowledgeable about the topic of your forum.

Our moderators are not like moderators you may find on other discussion boards.

Just FYI.

Our moderators are not like moderators you may find on other discussion boards.
Moderators that know the specifics of the topic of the forum are desirable but ultimately irrelevant in the end. There will always be posters who are as knowledgeable, if not moreso, that are able to answer other poster's questions.

Try TDRexplorer website for information on Asia parks. It was a fantastic for helping me plan my trip this past fall.
