That Pirate Stole My Tiara: The Pre-Trip Report

Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner
Such A Pretty Fat by Jen Lancaster
Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella
Drunk, Divorced and Covered in Cat Hair by Laurie Perry

It's all light chick lit, which normally isn't my cup of tea, but I needed some "fun" summer reading. I've also just started The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs.
I got super excited when I saw that you read "Good in Bed" by Jennifer Weiner. I love love love love love this book, all of her books in fact. Did you like it? :hyper: I read it when it first came out and it made me want to be a writer even more. :::Sigh::: I need to write more.

I loved it. I'm going to read Little Earthquakes next and likely pick up the rest of her stuff. I actually really adored the Jen Lancaster book also and picked up her other two.

Yay! I am so glad you loved it. Her latest novel "Certain Girls" is about Cannie & Co as well. I adored it, others have given it mixed reviews. I love all of her books. :lovestruc

Ooh, I've read Good in Bed and Shopaholic. I like them both! Haven't yet finished the Shopaholic series. I like the books, but probably won't purchase the rest. Need to get to the library.

What an awesome avatar that would make.

Ahh, if only I were semidecent at photoshop. Though I have no clue how I'd keep the animation bit. And really, I'm not sure whether the DIS has copyrighted the little guy.

:::Sigh::: I need to write more.

Right there with you, LL. I'm currently critiquing the novella for an associate in the writing organization I'm in, which is mostly good motivation-wise, and he'll reciprocate when I'm ready, but it is time-consuming. And I'm sure I'll enjoy writing my TR, but that's not going to help me get published. Need to work on my fiction.

That one's on my too-read list as well! However, it may be a real purchase, which means I'm waiting till the PB version comes out.

Did you read her short story collection? I generally prefer novels, but may try to pick up the collection at the library.

I pre-ordered it on Amazon months before it came out! :rotfl:

I tried reading it but couldn't get into it, sometimes that happens. I will probably try again someday.

So, in light of all the ADR drama running rampant on everyone's trip reports, I've decided to keep mine just the way they are.
I've also decided what I'm going to eat.
Three months from now.
Because I can.
Don't judge.
This is a big step for my indecisive Libran personality.
Trust me.
(You should also trust that come the time of the actual dinner in the actual restaurant in the actual World, I will rethink my choices and re-decide my decisions. Libran personality. At its best.)

So, in no particular order, here are the menu items that have struck my fancy at the table service restaurants we'll be frequenting. Frequently. With frequence:

Rainforest Cafe: Animal Kingdom Edition
This is our OOP meal and I'm not completely sold on the restaurant or its menu, but it was Missy's one and only restaurant request and I was more than happy to honor it.
Appetizer: They all seem like your normal, run o' the mill apps. Not sure I'll get anything. Maybe the Coastal Calamari to split.
Drink: Water (I'm trying to avoid soda on this trip. Otherwise I will drink it with EVERY meal.)
Entree: Probably a half rack of the Mojo Bones. They sound nummy.
Dessert: Don't know. Can't find a listing anywhere.

50's Prime Time Cafe: Gimme S'Mores or Gimme Death
I haven't eaten here in years and I'm really looking forward to it!
Appetizer: Beer Battered Onion Rings. Mmmm. Tink likes.
Drink: Mowie Wowie - heavier on the juices.
Entree: Either the Traditional Meatloaf or the Old Fashion Pot Roast. Mmmm. Down home cookin'!
Dessert: Duh. S'Mores

Le Cellier: The Cellar. Of Meat. And Cheese Soup. Eh.*
Appetizer: Pretzel bread and Woohoo Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup. By the way, the Woohoo part isn't on the menu. Eh.
Drink: Water? Not sure. Anyone ever have the Ice Wine? I'm not a wine-person really, but if it's fruity at all I may like it. Eh.
Entree: Le Cellier Mushroom Filet Mignon - and yes, like the rest of the world, and the World, I'm hoping they put the Maple Glazed Filet back on the menu pre-September. Eh.
Dessert: Maple Creme Brulee - this will be my first foray into the world of brulee. Eh.
*Eh - not as in "meh" or "I'm not enthused" but as in stereotyping Canadian speakers everywhere. (NOMel)

San Angel Inn: O El Restaurante Esperando No El Sucko
This is the ressie I'm most nervous about sucking big time. But I figure it won't really matter to Missy as long as they bring on the tequila.
Appetizer: Nachos
Drink: Frozen Strawberry Margarita
Entree: Plato Mexicano - bring on the beans and cheese! Sorry. That sounds so wrong.
Dessert: Arroz con Leche - dear LORD if any of you ever have the opportunity to have hot rice pudding right out of the pot with cinnamon sprinkled on top, DO IT. (No pressure).

Tutto Italia: Home of the Carbs
If the portions are anywhere as big as my nonna's, fahgeddaboutit. They'll be ROLLING us out.
Appetizer: Prosciutto di Parma - this girl CANNOT under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES pass on good prosciutto.
Drink: Water. I need to make sure there is ample carb space.
Entree: Bucatini Gratinati - you know that sound that Homer Simpson makes? Insert here.
Dessert: Mocha Tiramisu

Kona Cafe (breakfast): The DUH one.
Breakfast is my favorite meal. Pity we're only doing one.
Drink: Lilikoi juice and coffee
Entree: Tonga! Tonga! Tonga! Toast!

O'hana: Means Family. And no one gets left behind. Or forgotten. Or underfed.
I was up in the air whether or not to cancel this and just do a Kona dinner too. I'm still feeling a little wishy-washy about it.
Appetizers: Everything.
Drink: Hopefully Lapu Lapu numero dos from the Tambu Lounge.
Entree: Everything.

As for counter service meals and snacks, it's really going to depend on where we end up and when. I have some ideas but I'm not tied to anything.
Except a Dole Whip.
And a TK Junky Apple.
And maybe the Cannonball sammie from Earl of Sandwich.
And a treat from Goofy's Candy Co.
And a stuffed pretzel from MGM (NODHS).
And a churro.
And the Tangerine Daquiri from Morocco.
And the orange Grand Marnier thing from France.
And school bread.
And a tea slushie from Japan.
And a Mickey Bar.
And an Itzakadoozie.

And I'm totally coming back from this trip ROTUND. And wasted. Apparently.

Yo Ho!

:flower3:

Wow Tink, that sounds FABBY with a capital fab:worship: : . The rice pud sound scrummy:cloud9: but I need some info on a couple of your other items. Bucatini Gratinati - what is this please, I love Italian food so I'm sure I'd like it? Also what's so good about the tea slushie, is it just tea or does it have a wee sniffter in it? I didn't know they did a tangerine daquiri :cool1: sound delish.

That sounds awesome!!!

I know. I wish I could eat it all now. Well maybe not all, but some. Now.

The Bucatini Gratinati is pasta with Italian prosciutto ham, peas and parmesan cream. I've seen pictures on the food porn thread and am dying to try this dish!

On the tea slushie, they have two with alcohol (one has peach schnapps and the other is plum wine) but the one I want is the Strawberry Oolong Tea Slush. Just sounds yummy.

I only found out about the Tangerine Daquiri from Jackie when she was talking about it on her trippie. They serve it at the Tangierine Cafe.

My Chocolate Frosty is just not cutting it after reading that. :(

We decided to leave Ohana for another trip and go with Kona Cafe, I am very excited about this.

Thank your for sharing the info Jackie:worship:

Anyone ever have the Ice Wine? I'm not a wine-person really, but if it's fruity at all I may like it. Eh.
Not fruity, but SWEET. Like syrup. Almost the same consistency, too. But a whole lot better, eh? I'm a dry wine snob - not a fan of anything too fruity or sweet... and even I loved the ice wine! :thumbsup2

O'hana: Means Family. And no one gets left behind. Or forgotten. Or underfed.
:lmao: Love that!

Look! It's a Twofer! It's two, two, two for you!

Okay. Corniness over.

So, I've tied up some loose ends so that there's almost nothing left to take care of for this trip except:

a.) obsessing
b.) getting a ride to/from the airport (BF will probably pick us up, so I just need to con, ahem, I mean politely ask someone to bring us for our 8:25 a.m. flight. I'll likely trick, oops, of course I mean request this of my sweet, sweet, brat...BROTHER! I MEANT BROTHER.)
c.) booking a flight home. Whatever.
d.) obsessing
e.) making t-shirts and the such
f.) finishing (erm, starting?) my trip binder
g.) obsessing
h.) packing
i.) putting together of costume for MNSSHP
j.) obsessing
k.) buying another pair (or two) of Croc-flops

Carp. Now I'm depressed. I'd thought I had so little to do. ::sigh::

Anywho, today and this weekend I took care of three important items:

Important Item Numero Uno: Ground Transportation from MCO to the Poly

Because we're flying SW we aren't eligible for Magical(lyUn)Express. And I'm not a MEARS girl ever since that last time I was CRAMMED into the van. And the line for the taxi stand is often longer than the line for RnR 30 min. after rope drop. I'm more of a "car service" kind of gal. And I decided that I'd surprise Missy and book us something a little nicer than your average sedan (and it was semi-affordable since we're only using it one-way):
lincoln-towncar-limousine.jpg

I booked the ressie today with Amber at Happy Limo. She was a real sweetie and the process was painless. It's $122 one-way plus gratuity. I'd been planning a little extra money for this surprise so it's not quite so painful.

Important Item Numero Dos: Pretty Toes!

I also made our pedicure appointments today with the Niki Bryan Spa at the Grand Floridian. For 50 glorious minutes our tootsies will be scrubbed, rubbed and polished. Oh how I cannot wait for my feet to be pampered. Constance was sweet enough to make our appointments for the same time - 2:00 p.m. for 9/20/08. The treatment is $65 per person plus tip and I'm paying for Missy's as part of her birthday gift (along with her MNSSHP ticket).

Psst...TK - this means we can make "official" Lapu Lapu Fest plans. I think my O'hana ressies are for 6-ish, so what say you?

Important Item Numero Tres: What's almost as important as proper park shoes? A proper park bag.

Ok, so I was having some bag angst. I'm not a big "carry a bag all over the parks" kind of gal. I have no kids or man (no offense, I just find they sometimes require "stuff) I need to "provide" for in the parks and really only require the following for myself:
*cards/cash
*camera (it's a small Nikon)
*cell phone
*a couple of band-aids and Advil, just in case

I also didn't want anything that would:
a.) clip to my belt...or any part of me
b.) drape heavily across my shoulder
c.) really hang on my shoulder at all

And so, I had angst. I was angsty. I angsted. Should I get the bagallini everyone raves about? Honestly, I'm "Meh" about them. And see item c above. I thought maybe I would just have a wallet, but that would mean my pockets would be stuffed to overfloweth and even if it is Disney, I don't see a need to up the pickpocket factor. I have some wristlets that would totally work if they weren't so small.

And then Fate intervened. In the form of a COACH coupon.

Now, it's well documented on here that I am:
i.) a Disney lover
ii.) obsessive-compulsive
iii.) a shoe snob
iv.) hungry
v.) a lover of COACH

So when they send me a coupon worth 25% off my entire purchase even though I have no need to make any purchase the chances of me finding a reason to make a purchase which will be reduced by 25% is as probable as it is for ZZUB to partake in BGPC if it were to be offered again at LTT in the MK.

In short, that coupon was being used.

And possibly abused.

The Aha! moment came when I was walking with a friend to lunch the other day. Before we left she popped her cell phone, cash, cards and something small she had to mail into her cute little (but bigger than then normal) COACH wristlet. The idea was born and the park "bag" was bought this past Sunday while the BF and I were here in the city:

41182Brass-Khaki-White.jpg

Only where this one is white, mine is teal. And it's the perfect size - bigger than a wristlet and smaller than a purse. I'm looking forward to having something just on my wrist and so, well, clutchable.

It was still a little on the expensive side :-):cough, cough $75, cough, cough:: ) but Lord knows it will get plenty of use other than just this trip.

So at least THOSE things are squared away.

Wow, was this a list-y chapter or what??

;)

My Chocolate Frosty is just not cutting it after reading that. :(

I know.. My Pizza now seems very mediocre.

You'll be eating like queens before long too!

:cloud9: That pasta sound scrummy. I may try the tea with the peach schnapps, I've never tried pum wine but it's really not doing it for me.

I can't wait for ALL of it.

Not fruity, but SWEET. Like syrup. Almost the same consistency, too. But a whole lot better, eh? I'm a dry wine snob - not a fan of anything too fruity or sweet... and even I loved the ice wine! :thumbsup2

Hmph. I wonder. It's expensive, no? Might be worth a try. I wish I was into wine...

I am currently having bag angst as well. It's a small world, afterall. :lmao:

I tested mine out this weekend and it's just not making me happy. I will have to post about it on my PTR.::yes::

Dude, when am I NOT in the midst of bag angst?! Oh yes, I know the pain well.

But.

May I say.... BRAVO! Well done! Excellent, eh?!

As I was reading, I thought "I have a friend who swears by her Vera Bradley wristlet thingy - I should recommend it to Tink." But a COACH! wristlet-y clutch-y bag? Perfect. :thumbsup2

I have to admit, I am intrigued by this wristlet thingy. I must investigate! :magnify:

DUDE!!!.....You CAN use Magical Express with Southwest!!! The only way it "doesn't" work is on your return flight, you have to bring your bags with you on your bus (they won't magically disappear from your room like the reverse when you arrive). But they WILL load them on the bus for you and then you collect them at the airport and do your own check-in.

Of course the limo in your pic is pretty sweet, but I'm all about FREE so it's ME all the way for us (that's ME as in handy acronym for Magical Express, not a selfish plug for attention on my behalf....:rotfl: ).

Anyway, it's one to tuck away for the future, KWIM??

If I couldn't use ME, that's my equivalent of Zzub's loss of BGPC!!
