This sounds scary! Our pond is frozen solid.
My Dh let me wear his daytona sweatshirt. We have a friend that has one every year. We love nascar too! But it always takes me a few races to figure eveyone out when they change numbers! :confused3
I got sick real early in my pregnancy with number 2. I knew she had to be a girl cause I was NOT sick like that with #1!!

We call it that becuse we kill our fish!:lmao: I am way too lazy to keep the thing clean! I just wish we would fill it in! But DH now likes it...It's a real small one...only a few gallons...but I still hate to clean it!

We always lose a few when we move out fish back outside and then some when we bring them in. Good thing we buy the cheap ones!!

OK...I need to know!! How do you clean your pond. We have one with a cement bottom & waterfall...was here when we moved in. I hate it, because it is always so gross and dirty. How do you clean it?? I do not have any Koi in it, because I have put bleach in it before in an effor to kill some little spider looking bugs that were on the bottom...Should I get some Koi? do they keep it clean? I haven't put bleach in it in over 6 months, do I need to drain it? My hubby refuses to put his mouth at the other end of the hose to drain it...!! So I may have to do it, myself!! Ugh!

HELP>>> PLEASE!!! LOL!!

I have been lurking along and there has been some really nice things posted.

To everyone getting ready to head out to the World HAVE FUN!!!

So I am making my DD a nice little sweatshirt. It is fleece (but not Disney) Anyways, I am using a Burda Pattern. Has anyone tried one of those? It wants me to use a double needle when hemming the bottom. Have any of you used one of those? I am thinking I will just stitch it with a straight stitch, because using the double needle would require a trip to JoAnn's to buy a double needle and a big spool of thread.

We drain ours using the pump and a bucket then we just scrub it down with a brush...no cleaners. Not sure how long you have to wait after adding bleach...And we don't do real Koi...they die real easy...we buy big gold fish. CHEAP! My BFF puts feeder fish in hers...they are small but they will live a long time. It is better to start after the change of the seasons...the change of seasons makes for algae growth. YUCK!

I want to thank everyone on here for their prayers while dh was looking for a job. He found out today that he got a job with Social Security Disability Termination. I'm so relieved. The last few months have been so stressful for me dealing with everything.

:dance3: I'm so glad! What a relief!

Oh wow, I didn't realize you didn't do St. Patrick's Day. I sent it on because I thought the green would look nice with her red hair. I'm glad she won't be pinched! :)

I have been so sick, I think Tom brought the flu home on the plane from when he was out of town. This is the first time in two days I have been upright for more than a few minutes.

Get better soon Steph! I'll bet Lydia looks gorgeous in that outfit!

Yeah, it is a good day. I am so happy for your family. Thank God for the good job.

I hope you are feeling better soon. Remember to drink a lot of liquid and rest. Take it easy even as you start to feel better.

I did get to sew a bit today. Mom got the other T shirt for me and I did my fish shirt too. Of course having a TBI, I love Dori!

Should I make shorts and skirt out of this material to match the shirts or is too much??
fishwithfabric.jpg

I saw on the Butterick pattern for one of Hunter's shirt a cool pair of long shorts. They were funky. Hunter hates when I say that! But they would look cute or just a pair of regular shorts. Again, is the fish material over the top?

I love the shirts and think the fish fabric looks good with them.

A little off-topic, but does anyone know the address to write to regarding a CM? We had a really great one (photopass photographer at BBB photoshoot at Exposition Hall--I KNOW, right?) and I just wanted to write in about how great she was. And I may throw in a little something about how awful the photographers were to my friends there last May so I almost didn't take the girls there so she was a pleasant surprise...but seriously, she was great.

We use our shop vac to suck it out. We get leaves and gunk in the pond. Then we rinse the rocks that are on the bottom. We scrub the sides with brushes and water no cleaners. Ours isn't to big so it doesn't take very long. We buy the cheap goldfish too!

A shop vac! You are so smart! We never thought of that...can't wait to share that with DH becuase we never get all of the water out!

A couple pages back someone was asking about making bows for a girl who was going to play softball. Keep in mind that they will be wearing batting helmets when they play so very eleborate bows will be crushed. Plus, if there is a metal barrette under the bow it will hurt to have the helmet pressing that barrette into their head.

Most of the girls around here wear a ponytail holder with ribbon tied on in their teams colors. You can embroider on the ribbon the girls name or her team name. Or you can use fabric paint.

My Daughter loves softball.

You are such a great seamstress! Everything you make is just stunning! She takes beautiful pictures too. I can't wait until DD can actually pose! I love the pattern you used for this. What is it??

This is so cute!!! What pattern did you use for this as well??

!

Thanks so much!! Both sets a re a combination of patterns. The storybook set has the easy fit pants, and the top is the Bowznstuff triple ruffle halter from YCMT. The "skirt" of the top is just a double layer skirt - no pattern for that.

The Very Hungry Vaterpillar set started with CarlaC's stripwork jumper bodice (simply sweet would work too) and the "skirt" of it is kinda made from a butterick pattern, but I only used it for the curve. I can find what patern it is if you like :)

On the Great Iron Debate - I don't iron, unless it is related to sewing. I'll iron once in a blue moon if it's a special occasion and the clothes need it.

DD is a jeans and tee kind of girl. If I could get her out the door in the ruffles and frou-frou stuff I would. I don't think the kids in her class make fun of her when she wears the customs, actually whenever I manage to get one on her for school she usually comes home saying "so and so" wants me to make her one too. She prefers jeans. I put her in khakis the other day and she still wasn't happy. I send her to school in clean clothes that fit and her hair is always brushed - prefferablly with a clippie in her hair (yeah, she fusses about that too!) to keep her hair out of her face. Of course she comes home usually with marker or paint on her jeans and her hair is always a mess. I shop at all kinds of stroes - from Gymboree (only on sale though!!) to Walmart. I don't buy her clothes though so she will fit in at school, I buy what she will be comfortable in.

Those outfits were awesome! And so was the orange Monster! I got so much pleasure from seeing everything you sent opened.
I liked the reaction to Orange Monster too. I have to say that I like sewing for girls, but I really love sewing for boys. I'm not sure why.:confused3

I have a cement pond in my backyard. The previous owners after I bought the house dumped bleach in the fish pond.

My dad and I were upset and he managed to get an old pool liner that had a hole in in and he lined the pond for me. We weren't sure if it was safe to put fish into it, we also didn't know if the pond had any leaks.

I haven't cleaned my pond and I have been here almost 4 yrs. I also don't move the fish from outside to inside during the winter. The goldfish have started to reproduce and last year I had baby fish. Can't wait to see if I get more little fish this year. The pond should unfreeze soon, so I can check.

My sincere apologies if my earlier post offended people here.
It was not my intention.
I do think it's human nature to look at others (children, adults, etc) and form an opinion- be it positive or negative. I dont think it makes me shallow, just normal.
I do think several folks miscontrued, and or took my comments out of context, but thats the drawback to a text only conversation.
Again, I am sorry for those who were offended or upset by my post.

Smocked dresses.
Someone said they'd not seen smocked dresses.
Boy, do I feel old here.

Does anyone else remember Polly Flinders dresses and Paul E. Flinders smocked outfits for boys? They were VERY popular and quite expensive when my daughter was little. And of course, every dress had a matching bow. She only owned 1 Polly Flinders dress her whole life. I believe it was about $60.00 in the early 1990s

They were THEN what custom clothing is NOW.
Look at some of them here:

That is all I wore. My Mom said they had an outlet store near us in Tallahassee. She said she remembers not buying me dresses because they were still $5. This was the early 80's though.

I couldn't find the address I used last year, but it was the main Disney World address. I actually received a phone call back thanking me for writing. You could start with the on-line form on the website. Just click on the "Contact Us" tab.

This is one of my favorite websites to shop! A friend of my Mom's told me about it when I was pregnant with Megan. I also keep my eyes out at estate sales for antiques, I bring them home and wash them and press them and hang them on the walls- I started collecting a while ago, but I only have about 5. One is from the early 1800s and has pintucks all across the bodice- I would guess its for about 18 months to age 2. Thats the oldest I have and I can't get it really clean. I dont dare do anything other than handwash it.

i LOVE smocking. I dont think I have the patience for it- it looks like a lot of little stitches and my machine says it smocks, but it also says it serges and the serger stitch on it doesnt work if you want it on the edge of the fabric.

Polly Flinders is now owned and run by a different company. But the sizing is still the same- runs very small. About 2 sizes if I remember correctly.
Sarah Louise is my favorite- her stuff typically runs big- So if she wears a size 3T, than the 2T is what you want. Quality is supreme, and attention to detail and the feel of the fabric- just cant go wrong. I have a shop near me that sells some Sarah Louise and they are often 40% off- I LOVE that! But she doesnt have the selection that Grammies Attic has
I also like Wil'Beth- prices tend to be more reasnable and sizing is standard
I have 1 CI Castro, also more affordable, but runs small.

I do love Grammies Attic, but her shipping is slow. I wish I lived down there so I could go visit her shop!

it got me thinking about photos of some of the things I have bought from GA-

This is a Sarah Louise

I just love the butterick pattern that I used for dragon shirt and then these shorts. It was too easy, and comes from me.

Here he is with his fish outfit. I believe the problem is that the fabric is dark blue and the shirt is mostly light blue?

I don't think I've mentioned it here, but I probalby should have! Everynight around 10PM or so, Becca's Dad, David sends out an update bout Becca. They asked me to go ahead and post them on her PTR. I've been updating it every night for a few days now, so if you were waiting for an update, go check it out! Becca seems to be doing better, but I'm still worried sick about her.

They are planning on Becca being in the hospital for quite some time, 8 weeks, so please continue the well wishes and prayers for this very special little girl. If you read her PTR, please leave a note. Mandy doesn't have much internet access, but I know she enjoys reading what everyone writes!

Thanks guys for the outpooring of love and caring you have shown for this wonderful family!
Thank you so much for updating their PTR Teresa.:goodvibes

I love looking at pictures of what people create here! I'm working on several items for my sons for our trip, my niece and nephew for their trip (Disney also), my son's third birthday, plus gifts for the many many other birthdays fast approaching! :scared:
OK really I've just been gathering fabrics so far, I need to finish up a quilt and a bag for myself first :lovestruc
Welcome!!! I am looking forward to seeing what you make. Hope you post pics soon!!! :goodvibes

Katie stayed home from school today because she was throwing up this morning at 5 am! Bless her heart...it must be hard having a mommy with a gag reflex like mine!:lmao: Everytime she throws up...I gag! It is really kinda funny the sounds that come from our bathroom!:rotfl2: She is feeling better now and is mad she messed up her perfect attendance at school. She may never get over it!
Awww hope your daughter is feeling better soon...oh, and I hope you can get that gagging of yours under control..lol....jk
