McLean, VA -- any further north we'd be in Maryland or DC! So looks like just a bit up 95 from you in Fredericksburg. Do you drive or fly to WDW? We are flying in October because don't want the boys out of school longer but thinking of driving next August when we'll have time. We drive each summer to South Carolina though and that is long enough for me so we'll see. Hopefully get very cheap airfare and that will solve our dilemma!

We usually fly... have our choice of DCA, IAD, BWI and RIC. But occasionally we drive, often stopping in Savannah or Charleston or someplace else fun on the way home. Good luck with airfare. It is up and down so much anymore, who knows what you will find next summer?!?

I just changed my reservation to Lagoon View CL from Garden View
I am excited....I hope to get a nice view of the boardwalk :lovestruc
I am definitely keeping my reservation at the BC, I only had a small moment of indecision the other day....that passed quickly :rotfl:
Now all I hope is Florida has a nice FEB this year so I can try that much-loved pool!!!! :goodvibes Thanks to everyone for their terrific information and always being willing to help those of us who are new to YC/BC :goodvibes

Somewhere in this thread I think picked up on some advice that recommends NOT checking in online. Is this true? If so, why? I'm just curious.

This is our first trip ever to WDW and we are traveling from 9/2/10 - 9/11/10 and will be staying in a standard room at BC. Like everyone else, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some kind of upgrade or at the very least a room with a view of something other than dumpsters, rooftops or parking lots. I totally get that it's entirely possible that this is what I will end up with since that's all I paid for, but a little wishful thinking doesn't hurt, right?

So...are my chances any better at getting a better room if I check in online or in person? I'm sorry if this has already been answered a million times. I really did go through this thread looking for the explanation but couldn't find it. Planning this trip has been a bit overwhelming and I'm hoping the experience we have will be worth all the anxiety it has caused. Thanks for any help you can offer.

The reason that on-line check in is discouraged is that it is easier to change your room if you are not satisfied if you haven't already checked in. With on-line, your keys are already cut, and it is expected that you grab your envelope and go. If you check-in at the desk, you have the opportunity to see where your room is, ask questions and see if a room more to your liking is available.

Hi there,
I would definitely recommend NOT doing online check in if you have any concerns at all regarding your room. With online check in, your room is decided, your keys are cut, they hand you your stuff and off you go. If you check in when you get there, you can ask the CM where the room is located, what kind of view/beds it has, etc. If you aren't happy, you can see if there is something else available in your catergory that might be better. I would definitely NOT ask for a free upgrade, not that you were planning on doing that anyway.

Good luck, and have a fabulous trip! We just returned from the Beach Club and I am missing it big time....

Is there anyplace at Yacht club to refill a mug?
Thanks! :goodvibes

No beverage station in the YC, but in the morning you can refill your mug with fresh brewed coffee and real milk! There is a bar and lounge area at the end of the lobby. They also offer some basic breakfast items muffins and the like. There is a refillable beverage station at Hurricane Hannah's in SAB. The other option is the market place at BC which has a full service beverage station with the usual soda, nescafe etc. It's a bit of a hike, but it's a nice stroll.

Echoqueen, hello! I just LOVE your pictures, and HOW LUCKY you were chosen to be the parade family!!

You probably don't remember but I actually met you at the Beach Club when you were talking with Teena in the lobby...she introduced us!! I looked like a drowned rat, had just come from Kali Rapids at AK and I was soaked...plus it was 100 degrees, yikes! Glad your trip was as great as mine, hoping to get back there same time next year as well.

I did online checkin because I had chose a standard view and would be fine with what was given. There was no line we got our packet and went to our room, something seemed strange about the room, there was a big blank space on both sides of the TV area, it took me a few minutes to figure out there was no sofa/sleeper sofa. Just a desk and chair. We were staying for 7 nights and I felt that was much too long only being able to sit on the side of a bed. So we went back to check in desk and I stated my case :rolleyes1and they, switched us no problem on the spot:love:. They sent a bell man up with us to move our carry on items to the new room and to make sure all was well. The first room only had the standing balcony and was quite far away. The second room had a full balcony on the second floor just above the gift shop, just down the hall from the main elevators. There was some roof top but mostley court yard area and you could see folks on the walkway below. We like the location.:)

No matter how you check in, if you are not happy with what you get at least try to fix it.pirate:

Yes, I do kind of:idea:, we did book a bounce back for next year.:cool1: Hopefully we will have our BC/YC pins so we can identify each other.:) Glad you had a wonderful trip.

I read on the sticky thread about CS breakfast at the Epcot resorts, that you can get a continental breakfast at the Ale & Compass lounge...is that the same as the room service continental breakfast? And does it take 1 CS credit?

We switched to Lagoon View CL too! I orignially had the standard view CL, but was able to use the 40% off code if I upgraded. Saved myself over $750 and got a better view!:woohoo:

I can't wait for our stay at the YC in less than a week! We finally told the kids yesterday, and they are over the moon! In doing my rough planning for the visit, though, I have a couple of questions for all of you YC/BC experts about the transportation at the resorts:

1) I see that the FAQ says that walking to Epcot takes 5-10 min, and that walking to HS takes "a bit longer." Can anyone give me an estimate how long the walk takes? 15 min? 20 min? 30 min?

2) We are going to the morning EMH at HS our first morning there, so HS is opening at 8 am. What times do the boats start running to go to HS, and how long does the boat ride last?

3) MK opens at 9 am while we are there. What time do the buses start heading over to MK? We also have a CP reservation for 8:10 for one of those mornings. Are there buses that start early enough for that time, or will we need to take a cab?

Thank you so much to anyone that can help with these questions!! :goodvibes

I'll try to help with question #1, from a BC perspective:

It is <10 minutes to the IG of Epcot. But remember, if it is early, WS won't be open yet. You now have a 10-15 minute walk to FW, where the rope drop happens.

We walked back to BC from HS last year. I'd say, at our forced march speed, it was about 20 minutes. I've been told it was 0.8 miles, but it seemed longer. At that pace of walking, I'm usually 1.2 miles or more, on the treadmill. I'd like to do it again sometime, at a more leisurely pace.

We have done the HS to BC walk a couple of times. I would say 20-25 minutes (2 adults, 2 preteens). Maybe a few others will chime in, too.

The boats start at least at 7:30 on an EMH morning at HS, maybe earlier, but we know there was one at the dock around 7:30. We missed the 7:30 boat- we were running towards the dock and it left. They also won't fill the morning boat (ie- even if you are in line, you may not make it on the boat at the dock) because it still needs to make stops at other resorts before HS, and they want to leave space for some at the other resorts. The boat we ended up taking got us to HS a little after 8. Maybe 8:05. Boat ride is around 20 minutes.

I can never seem to get a straight answer anywhere about when buses start running. You're best bet to MK is a bus, though, because the cabs can't go all the way to MK, I think they let you off at TTC. You could take a cab to the Contemporary Resort (about $15 plus tip) and walk to MK (about 10 minutes), if you don't have faith in the buses.

Does anyone know if they still do s'mores at the campfire or is it just marshmellows? Also, can you still bring your own noodle for SAB?

Lori

Can someone name the places I can get REAL coffee at BC/YC? PLEASE tell me that the CL lounge has real coffee. If not, can I buy real coffee in the gift shop or market at the resort to brew myself in my room?
