Ebay WDW tickets

I was on the Ebay site and looking at DW tickets. Some were more expensive than on the Disney web site. Am I missing something?

Hubby and I were checking to see if we became DVC members, how much our tickets would cost us. We usually buy with the hotel reservation, so this is new to us.

Thanks!

Deb

Hi, dairyou. DVC members get 10% off the Unlimited Park Hoppers, although many here do not think these tickets are the best purchase.

Good luck...

I personally prefer the UPH passes. I like the fact that I can come and go as I please. We currently have 7 day Park Hopper Pluses, with 5 days left. Once they are gone, I will start just doing the UPH's. In the long run, they may be a little more money, if you don't use them one day. But my thinking (which may be a little strange) is, let's say we are not going to the parks one day, but then decide we jut want to go to LeCelliar in Epcot for dinner, with a PHP, we wouldn't neccesarily waste an entire day just to go in for dinner. We would eat elsewhere, but with the UPH, we would because we know we can't take it home with us!

We have found the least expensive passes for us is to get Annual Passes and plan our trips slightly less than 365 days apart. Usually we do January trips, so one year will will travel the 3rd week of January, and the next year the 2nd. This year, our APs expired in January, and we took an unexpected trip in August, so we bought hoppers for that one. We will be buying our APs now before the DC discount goes away, and they will be activated on our January 14th trip. Then we have an October trip planned for next year as well as another December or January trip. We have had as many as 30 days on an AP. It usually is a break even cost at about 8 days, so we figure we have about 2 weeks of free park passes! We like the flexibility of going to the parks each day, even if it is just to a restaurant.

I thought I read that the AP's are activated the day you buy them, not the day of first use? If that's the case, this could change my thinking.

No, we have always purchased vouchers from the DS and had them activated the day we first go to the parks. The problem with APs is that you no longer can get that benefit when you renew them. We used to be able to renew and the renewal would not go into effect until the first use. Now the renewal goes into effect the day it expired, so it isn't a good deal. That is why we just purchase new vouchers each time. I think the vouchers may go away after this December, but not sure.

just wondering .....dvc diccounts are only on the uph?.....not on ap's....?

Hi, Habs_Fanswife. I think it really depends on how many days you are planning to go to the parks. Do you want the ultimate freedom to enter a park just for dinner? Are you planning another trip to WDW within the next 12 months?
The answer to "what pass is best", really depends on these questions.

Good luck...

yea i see ....well i guess we will just have to look into it a bit more , we really like the freedom of the uph...that is what we always get , but now that we are dvc members , we are just trying to figure out what is better ....thnxs for the insight , i will have to just think about it , we are planning a trip back in march also ...so we will see

That's correct, no discount for anyone on AP's.

And, as Diane pointed out, you can figure the break even on AP's at about 8 days. When you buy them the first time, they are activated when you use them, but the renewal (which is cheaper than the initial price) always starts one year later, so you need to work that into your calculations.

Good Luck!

I might not have been too clear. Here is a more detailed account of what we do.

Near the end of the year, we buy vouchers for APs (price increases are usually early in the year).

Activate on January trip 14-24.

Schedule next January trip for Jan. 3-13 the following year. This gives us 20 days on one AP. That means each day is only $18+. Not bad for a park that costs more than $50 for a single day pass.

Sometimes we sneak in an extra trip too. I think 30 was the most we have had on an AP. We do NOT do the renewal thing, since we lose too much time, but instead buy new vouchers and wait that extra two weeks to reserve the following year. I don't think that part will work anymore, though, because I think they are doing away with the presale vouchers.

Will they just send you an AP or Premium AP and it will be activated when you purchase it?

Opinions anyone.

I just bought a AP, and am trying to figure out if we are going enough this year to make it worth to activate.

It's the renewals that start from the last day or your previous pass. In the past, they would start when you used them so you got extra time, no more.

They don't send you the actual AP or premium AP. You buy a voucher which you must then activate the first day you want to attend the parks, by stopping by the Customer service center at the park entrance. They will then give you the actual passes and you must activate them with the biometric reader the first time you enter a park. Be very careful about how you activate the biometric reader, becaues DH once didn't do it correctly, and he had so much trouble with the ticket everytime he wanted to go into a park, that he had to get it redone.

dairyou,

Don't buy tickets through eBay. Everyone is different on what kind of ticket works best for them (we like UPHs - we spend more even with the discount, but we like the convinence on having our ticket on our room key and don't have to keep track of our hoppers from year to year), but if you are looking to save money on hoppers, check out one of the reputible brokers. www.mousesavers.com has a listing.

Also, if you buy AP's and put them in your safe, be sure to take them with when you go to the airport!! We got half way to the airport one time, when DS asked if we had the passes! WE had to scurry home and get them out of the safe!

LOL! That was the deciding factor against going with hoppers....

The logic went like this...

Me: "We could buy hoppers and then if we don't use all the days, we could use them next trip. We'd save $20 a person, plus any days we didn't use"

Hubby: "Yeah, like we'd be able to find the darn things ever again."
