April 29, 2012 ~ Aloha! ~ Wonder to Hawaii- who is with me?

Not open for further replies.
See when I see the bottom border it looks heavy for some reason. I don't know how to better explain it.

Val overall I like the shirt, but I don't know something is nt hitting on all cylinders with me. I think it is the bottom. I wonder if there is a way to incorperate it with the rest. If not, all good, I still like it, just not that crazy about the bottom that's all.

Here's one place I'm going to have to disagree with Alan. The bottom border makes the shirt for me!

I like the border too. I tried the design with and without and like it with best. However I know what Alan is saying, there seems to be a lack of balance with the color and design. I have been thinking about it since I read the note and think I might have a suggestion on how to fix it. I have sent Becky a note and crude - messy image of what I propose, outlining the mickey heads, surboards and flowers in black. Also, adding a black line to separate the border from the rest. Bob said black gives it a cartoon like look -- a good thing, like an homage to animation. He also noted that outlining in black balances the density of color between the Mickey leis and the bottom border with its dark leaves. I've also asked if they could darken or bold the text more.

Now I hope they agree and not just tell me to go away.

Thanks for checking back in and making the time to help us out. Have a blast at WDW next week. Post pics.

Can we put a link to this on Page One please....thanks.

It's time ladies.......

CHAMPAGNE GIRLS.....CHAMPAGNE GIRLS.......CHAMPAGNE GIRLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Calling all the Champagne Girls.....I'm about to make an announcement:

I will be co-hosting a Champagne Girls Tasting, along with my co-host and co-originator Mandy UK/angel, for women only on the Hawaiian cruise. Every adult woman is invited. You don't have to drink champagne to attend, but it certainly doesn't hurt if you do.

Here's how it works when I do it:

I request a room from DCL. I order a variety of champagne from DCL. I put it on my bill. All the ladies attending are required to wear pink. Pink leis and pink flowers for your hair will be provided for everyone to wear. We will take a group picture that will be very pink. We will "taste," "drink," "guzzle" and consume all the champagne while discussing it and many other things. It's a fun, fun way to spend two hours on a sea day.

We have a mascot, Sassy Bubbles, who is attending and will be dressed as a pink tink. We have ladies who won't drink any champagne, they are honorary members and can attend without any charge. We have ladies who will just have a little champagne and not all of the varieties, they are the sippers and will be charged $5 cash to attend. We have ladies who are drinkers/guzzlers and will drink all the various champagnes offered, they are the tasters and will be charged $10 cash to attend. I collect some money to offset part of the costs to me. In no way does it cover all of my expenses, but I prefer to offer it at a minimal price so that many more ladies will be able to attend. I always say, "the more the merrier."

If you are interested in attending please post on page one of the spreadsheet on this thread....look for the tab, tell me your name, stateroom number and category preference.....honorary member, sipper or taster.....so I can determine how much champagne I need to order.

Here are some pictures of three previous Champagne Girls Tastings that I have done:

alaskachampagnegirls20111.jpg

Our first tasting was done in 2008, the second in 2009 and the third in 2011 on the first Alaskan. Since then more Champagne Girls Tastings have been done by others that attended, not by me. Personally, I think they stole the name PINK for the Champagne Bar on the DREAM from us. hahaha.

CHAMPAGNE GIRLS.......

I ordered these today:

I'm ordering these for our hair:

I think that they will match very nicely....and, of course, they are PINK.

Here's some information about the port area in LA:

http://www.sanpedro.com/

Will do

I have put my name on the spreadsheet - at least I hope it saved it.

I have sent in a request to the facebook group.

I am still uncertain about the fish extenders. Maybe someone could post a pic of one.

Feels weird to be so limited under this new name. I had over 1000 posts under my old name. I have been starting over in several areas of my life recently. This just adds one more.
Hey just wanted to say I'm feeling ya.... talk more in PM later if you want. Sorry

REPOSTING FOR ADDING IT TO THE FIRST PAGE:

Send your name, sail date, ship name, stateroom number on a packing slip and state the contents of the package....it needs to be there on the Thurs before departure. Send to:

Metro Shore Services
Berth 93A
World Cruise Center
Port of Los Angeles
San Pedro, CA 90731

We might want to add this info to page one incase anyone else wants to ship something.
Will do

FOR ADDING IT TO THE FIRST PAGE:

Will all the ladies who signed up for the Champagne Girls go check and make sure they added the category information as follows:

TASTER - $10 - 1/2 glass full, tasting almost all varieties of champagne

SIPPER - $5 - 1/4 glass full, tasting some not all champagnes

HONORARY MEMBER - $0 - No champagne tasting, but will join in for the fun and can choose anything from water to beer.

(Can we please post this on page one also).....Thanks!

will do

Here is a zoomed in so you can see the details. Remember this is a digital representation of the material.

CUTE material!
But that's just for the men, right? what about us women folk? LOL I want something made out of that adorable design!!!! :rotfl:

Okay I checked since my last post on here and my PMs and I think I have everything asked to be added on original post. Please let me know if I'm incorrect about that or missed anything.
Now I need to go make a new thread because this one is about to get closed! LOL

Okay I have started a new thread in anticipation of hitting the limit on this thread soon.
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2775075

PLEASE.... no one post on the new thread until this thread is at the limit/closed- except for those with things listed on the first/original post of that thread. In other words if you're handling something like champagne girls, lanyards, etc. - feel free to post first on that thread so you'll have your own "first post" to edit later on and be on the first page of that thread. Otherwise please no posting on that thread until this one is closed. I'm pretty sure they don't want us posting on two threads.

Now we're leaving very early in the morning and I won't be able to check this thread tomorrow until maybe late evening, if then.
So if we hit the limit 250 pages on this thread- could someone please alert a moderator so they can close this thread and repost my link above on a last post on this thread so others can find it once this thread is closed? I would really appreciate it. :)

And feel free to post here on this thread anything else I may have missed for the first post/page 1 of the new thread and future threads. :) I'll update again tonight if there is anything I missed.

Greetings. We will be on this cruise as well.

JohnGar and LauraGar
Room 2054
This will be our second Gold cruise and second May in a row that we go to Hawai'i. We flew this year, are sailing there next year and are wondering how we will get there in 2013. I think car and train are out of the question.
Welcome Aboard! ;)

This is a beautiful FE! Makes me want to try to upgrade ours!
I agree, this is beautiful. :worship: But, there'll be no upgrading for me due to my serious lack of skills. :sad2: Lucky for me, my sister made mine, otherwise I wouldn't have one.

I LOVE the outlining, it makes it POP giving it dimension -- no :3dglasses necessary. :lmao:

I like the black outline as well. Gives it a nice clean look!.. Great job!.. We will still need 2 Adults, 2 kids!.. ;)

I have to agree. I am normally not too keen on borders, but this really works for me.

I love the outline. It just looks clearer and crisper somehow.

Thanks for creating the new thread and have a wonderful trip.

GOOD Morning, Happy Cruisers!

LOVE the new design. Hope we can finally agree on it so Val can get a break. How is Bob?

I'm out to the gym & pool. Hope everyone has a Fabulous day.

Sorry the outline makes it look worse to me. I don't know what it is. Every time I see that border on the bottom it looks like the shirt is being pulled down by some great weight at the bottom. Again not enough to make me dislike the shirt, but I just do not feel it fits in with the rest of the shirt. Maybe that's it, I think it looks to contrasting. Everything has little spaces on the shirt except for the bottom has these two huge loops around it. I would still like to see what else you can do Val. You have done such a wonderful job here. I just wished I had your artistic talents.

Val, I love the shirt. You've been so great about taking suggestions from everyone, but I don't think everyone will be happy with one design. You can't make everyone happy, so please don't stress about doing just that. Whatever shirt is decided upon I will purchase two as a reminder of this awesome cruise! Thank you again so much. Hope Bob is well and a cause is found for his belly and back pain, (my diagnosis is gallbladder).

Thanks for the words of encouragement.

Last year the doctors agreed with you that it was his gallbladder so they took it out. That wasn't it. Then we went to University of California, UC, to see a biliary "expert" and they said his sphincter of ode was not working correctly so he had surgery to open it - twice. Then we went to University of Stanford to see a liver specialist who had a liver biopsy taken, which was sent back to UC to the best pathologist in the western US. It was ok. He has had 4 ERCPs and more then 6 CTs and MRIs to check his pancreas. He has had a colonoscopy and a stomach endoscopy. His blood counts go up to dangerous numbers and they run tests or admit him but don't find the problem. He had a biopsy done on a tumor from his arm that they said was stage four abdominal cancer but then the surgeon who removed the tumor and another pathologist said it wasn't. Two weeks ago they put a stint in his common bile duct. Still he has all this pain. It has been a difficult couple of years.

OH. my Gosh! The POOR GUY!

Listen - there was just an article about something like that "when the doctors can't find out what's wrong" in the AARP magazine. In one case it turned out to be Gluten Intolerance - Celiac Sprue. It might be worth a try to spend a month Gluten Free just to see.

Do we have any idea what the cost will be per shirt yet?

Got to start saving my pennies.

Thanks for posting the fish hanging thingies. I will look at the thread posted and see if I can come up with something.

I am really looking forward to this trip. I really, really, really need a vacation.

I was concerned when I asked for yet one more change to our shirt design, the black outlining, because I had already gone back and forth with the artist they are paying to come up with a design for us. They have no firm commitment that we will be buying anything from them and unlike some of the other companies I called, they do not charge for their art work. Other companies I called had the info on their web sites that indicated they had more to offer then Becky's does but when I called them it turned out they don't really have what their site implied. They all are about the same but I like working with people who are up front. I believe Beck and her family are.

This morning I received the following message from Becky
"...We are delighted with the prospect of creating your custom Hawaiian shirt. However, we have reviewed what we have paid our artist to create the design up to this point and it has exceeded our amount allocated per project. ... Normally all of our artwork and set up fees are included in the price but we have really already gone above and beyond for this project. We would feel more comfortable doing additional artwork once we had an order or commitment in hand."
I responded with
"I completely understand. Right now people tell me "they will order". However, the catch-22 is that until I have their payment all I have is their statement that they want them. I can't collect money until I know how much to charge and I don't know that until I know how many will be ordered.
I am spending a lot of time on this but understand you are spending time and money on the artist and this is your livelihood.
I can promise that these are the last design changes I will ask for. I am not doing any more work on the design but understand if you have already reached or exceeded that point.
I had been working with someone at Pay Pal earlier this morning to setup the account people can use to deposit their order $. I planned to open an account at the bank this morning for this. My next step was to build an order form, based on the info you have given and have you confirm this.
I can only promise you that while I have gotten quotes from other shirt makers (while doing my due diligence I found the cost is about the same) it is my intent that when I order shirts for this group I plan on it being from you.
I'll post a notice of your concern and my issues and see what response I get."

I completely understand this it is still months from when our final cruise payment is due. Additionally, I can't tell you the cost of the shirts until I know how many we would be ordering and the difference is a lot - about 35% if we order 50 versus 200 shirts.

I did hear back from Becky that she intends to have Todd make the black outlines. Your thoughts and recommendations on how to proceed? Should we proceed?

Thanks for posting the fish hanging thingies. I will look at the thread posted and see if I can come up with something.

I am really looking forward to this trip. I really, really, really need a vacation.

I am not crafty at all, so I had mine made for our cruise last year. I got it from a lady at Etsy. She did a great job our ours.

Now I just have to come up with a way to make it.

I would like to make it so it comes apart.

My best friend from high school is going with me on this cruise and it would be great if I could make one that would come apart so she could take the part with her name on it with her when she went home.

This is her first Disney cruise so I really want it to be special for her.

It is my first Disney cruise since the divorce. The disney cruises were one thing fdh (former dear hubby) and I did that we really enjoyed. I want to really enjoy this one and have no regrets that I don't have the same traveling companion.
