Famous Vegetarians and Vegans - not surprisingly, no fatties!!!

Woke up to this post from a "friend" on FB. I have been friends with this girl since we were 7. Around that time she decided to become a vegetarian (except she still ate pepperoni for a few years because she thought it was a pepper). To say that we have grown apart over the past 10 years would be an understatement. She is now vegan and is not shy at all about telling anyone that is not vegan how unhealthy they are. In the past year I have been not-so-subtley personally attacked as someone who is killing themselves with their problem with food. Because everyone can see I have a problem with food. Oh and I could go on and on. The funny part is that even up until she was in high school she was the most unhealthy vegetarian I knew. I remember the only thing she would eat for a long time was baked potatoes covered in fake cheese sauce. She has obviously learned to like more things and has a healthy diet now, and she obviously has decided that her diet makes her superior to anyone that is not a vegetarian or vegan. It's not just limited to meat - I posted about enjoying a Starbucks latte and I was informed that I was a fattie setting a horrible example for my children with my 1,000 calorie drink (it was actually 240, but who cares about accuracy when you are being self-righteous?). I've had enough - time to "unfriend" this frenemy......thanks for letting me vent!

Yeah, it sounds like someone is asking for a block. I know quite a few vegetarians and vegans and luckily none of them are preachy about it. My opinion is that you can eat healthy or unhealthy as a vegetarian, healthy or unhealthy as a vegan, and healthy or unhealthy as an omnivore.

I'd probably troll her on facebook a little bit before I blocked her. A few check-ins at In-n-out Burger ought to do the trick.

Had to add that I love the profile in your signature!

What a lovely woman.

I'd be saying goodbye, too, and no looking back.

I'm joining the chorus here. I'm completely behind people making the choices best for their lives and their values...BUT I draw the line where those folks can't give others the same courtesy. I'm happy that your choices are working so well for you-but I've taken the same time and thought with my choices as you did with yours and they are working just fine for me.

The really discouraging part is that I have a really hard time with my weight and comments like her's are making me think why even bother, I'll always be a fattie. It took me 5 months to loose the last 13 lbs I had to get me back down to pre-DS weight, and only 2 months to gain it all back (without going back to any of the bad habits I changed).

I would have signed off "thanks for letting me venti" lol ;):lmao:

Oh, I'm not sure being a vegan is all that healthy, or even overly moral. A former vegan Lierre Keith wrote a book about her time as a vegan, how the diet hurt her health, and in the end how she realized vegan eating with poor for the environment. Tom Naughton had a great review of her book:

"The Vegetarian Myth"

Her father has been a vegetarian for I think about 5 years and is having an angioplasty today. I make no assumptions that it has anything to do with his diet, your health is more than just what you do or do not eat.

This girl has also three siblings - one is also a vegan ("for theological reason"), one is a vegetarian (possibly also vegan but I'm not sure), and one is an omnivore - and he has pancreatic cancer (at the age of 25). When he was first diagnosed, guess who blamed it on his unhealthy diet?

Don't give up on yourself because of that awful "friend"! Weight struggles are so normal (me included) but we've all got to keep fighting the fight...

Since I am "older" now (45) the only way I can make any progress is working out. Diet used to do it for me but not anymore and boy, do I NOT love exercise.
