Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread - Royally Refurbished for 2011

We checked in today and are on a first floor, garden view(I think) room. It's in Magnolia Terrace so it's refurbished. I think it's beautiful and since I didn't pay for a garden view I'm thrilled. We took the boat to DTD and returned for dinner at Boatwrights. Andre I'm here and didn't see that list of activities until you posted it.

HI! :flower3:

We are booked on 1/21 in AB and it is our first stay in Port Orleans. We normally stay in OKW in a 1BR, but this year we are taking advantage of the Free Dining. I chose POR because there are 5 of us, my kids are 9,7, and 5.

Any advice that you POR pros can give me would be much appreciated! Should I request a specific room or view? Are all of the AB rooms renovated at this point? Tell me about Yee-Haw Bob!!! And how is the Food Court?

We are NOT commandos at all. We normally go straight to the parks and have lunch :thumbsup2. I've heard good things about the Food Court, so this might be a big plus for us as OKW doesn't really have a lot to offer in CS food.

I'm looking forward to your responses!!

Not all of the AB rooms renovated yet. I think it's supposed to finish late spring. If you want a refurbished room, just make sure you call and add that request.

We love the POR food court, and think it's one of the best ones. When we stayed at POR in September, we went over to POFQ for breakfast one day and we couldn't find a seat. No matter what time we went to the POR food court, there were always open seats.

We are two adults so we didn't love Yee Haw Bob but he's very much a silly, family oriented show. People who appreciate this give him rave reviews so your kids might get a kick out of him.

Thank you! I'm a little afraid of Bob, for the "corny" factor. A few years ago we went to "Hoop Dee Do" partly based on rave reviews from others, and frankly, I would've rather been stabbed in the eye. We'll give Bob a shot and see how it goes! I am very much looking forward to the Food Court, the make your own pasta sounds like my cup of tea! Thanks for the advice on the room request, I will do that today. I'll check back a few pages and see if there is a list of buildings that have been completed.

Does anyone have a specific building that they would request?

Fortunately with Bob, it's free so if you don't like it you can leave - unlike Hoop Dee Do, with I am with you on! We stopped by Bob on the way back from the parks one night. Stayed for about a half hour but that was enough for me. There was a lot of people there, though, and everyone seemed to be enjoying it.

The make your own pasta station is delicious! My local grocery store has a make your own pasta station I get for dinner a lot, and the one at POR was just as good if not better. Very impressed!

If you go to Andre's site: portorleans.org, you can check out a map of POR and decide what building you might like to request. Not sure off hand which buildings are preferred though, and which ones are done being refurbished. Someone can probably recommend one. I don't think anymore AB buildings will be finished by the time you go because I think they are going to start working on the royal rooms now.

I too am concerned Bob might be too corny for us, but going to give it a try as others here give him glowing reports and repeat visits. I hope we enjoy it enough to stay the whole show. My son and daughter in law are driving in from Daytona Beach to join us so I hope we have fun. My son's a real ham and not the least shy so I expect it to be tons of fun. I hope it's not too corny though.

Don't have any advice for room location, as we stay in the mansions. I would request a new room, because some are done already in AB.

We love Bob jackson's show. It's fun. And you can come & go as you want, since it's free. He has something for everyone.
Take the boat to DTD. Very scenic and relaxing way to go. Love just strolling around POR, both areas, AB & Mansions. So beautlfully landscapped.
Explore the fishing hole. The CM there is great to talk to!
Best food court. Love the make your own omlete bar in the mornings, and make your own pasta for lunch & dinner. They also have a carving station.
Good food options, and plenty of seating.

All Day Tuesday!!! Woot!

Who do you make a request with, regular reservations or call the hotel. Last time we were there I put request in when we made reservation and did the online check in. We didn't get our request, I am sure many things may have went into why we didn't get request, availability, etc.

Does anyone know if the online check in gives you less of a chance of getting your request?

We stayed at POR Magnolia Bend last time, but this time as a family of 5 we need to do AB, would love to have a new room, AND because my daughter has allergies, we do better in newer rooms, less stuff in the carpets, etc. I love it that some hotel chains are allowing you to have allergen free rooms, I haven't noticed this at Disney yet.

Also, when we were there for the Princess Marathon a few years ago I LOVED the make your own pasta, so yummy!

Happy Birthday to YOU!

What are you getting for your birthday?

Hopefully this Google TV addon for my LED tv in the bedroom. Some money I do know of lol. Money is always good, right? A cake from my fiance, she is a great cake maker. Thats all I know of.

I have a few questions about the refurbished rooms. Anyone know how big the murphy bed it? Also, is it any softer than the old trundle was? One more. Does one of your party have to be 9 or under to book 5 in one of these rooms? Thanks.

We have our requests noted on our reservation. You may make mention ( on reservation) that daughter has dust or what ever allergies, and ask for extra cleaning for allergies. Along with your request for a new room.

No idea of which is better for getting requsts, on line or checking in at arrival. From what i heard from a CM on the Dis board, it's more to do with when you arrive rather then how you check in.

Not sure if I posted this already or not. If I did I apologize but here is a video I took of the omelette chef at POR.

Not all of the AB rooms renovated yet. I think it's supposed to finish late spring.

Four AB buildings (14, 36, 37 and 38) are done as of now and the next section to be started will be the Royal Rooms in Oak Manor and Parterre Place during the spring. The rest of AB will be done after that, between April and August.
