Twins? who's got them?

Congrats to all of you new twin parents and those pregnant with twins!
I have fraternal girls twins that are 3. I had a rough pregnancy with bleeding up until 17 weeks and then contractions began an 22 weeks. I was on a turb pump and bedrest, while I had DD3 at home. It was all worth it! My water broke at 36 weeks 2 days in the middle of the night. My girls were born via c-section (my first was a breech section) the next morning. They were 5lbs 14oz and 5lbs 10oz. Baby B was sent to the NICU for 2 days but A was brought to me as soon as I got to my room. I love all 3 of my girls.
The twins went on their first Disney trip at 21mos and will be almost 4 on our next trip.

Wow - those are some big babies! Congratulations - it's quite the ride, but wonderful!

We have 2 sets - fraternal girls who are 6 and identical boys who are 2. And a single 7 year old and single 3 month old. It's so easy having a single after getting so used to 2 at a time! ;)

So good to see other twin parents around! It's such a wonderful experience!

you are far braver than I ! I always joke that had the twins been first there would have been no 3rd kid :) but 2 sets of twins and then 2 singletons? :worship::worship::worship::worship::worship:

Another twin mom here. I have fraternal boys, they will be 7 this week!! We took them to Disneyland shortly after they turned 3 and again just before they turned 5. I'm planning a surprise trip for is this October!!

Good luck to all the new twin moms. It is definitely a challenge sometimes but well worth it!!

I do have to say it's a lot easier the 2nd time around. :thumbsup2 My Dr was laughing after we found out there were 2 again - saying how few women get to use all that twin knowledge a 2nd time. And it was true - when the boys were born 2 were the norm. I think it would have been harder to have had twins, then a single and then twins again because I would have been used to just having 1.

Last time we were at DW the then-youngests were 8 months old - now they are 2 and we have a newborn too. Should be quite interesting. ;)

I *only* have one set of twins (my only kids, they are 2.5 years old.) but I often joke that we need to have another kid or two so we can use all these parenting skills we are mastering. Seems like just when we get one stage mastered, they are onto something else. What other gig do you never use your acquired expertise again?

We were blessed with fraternal twin girls just over two years ago :) (to add to the 4 we already had!) I had always wanted twins and was thrilled when we saw those two little beating hearts on the ultrasound! Twins are so much fun, I'd happily have another set, would even love triplets, but I think we are done now......

We've already taken the girls to Disneyworld and Disneyland :goodvibes

Can't wait to go back, think we are going to go to Florida next time and stay at Bonnet Creek again.

Congrats!!!! Beautiful names. princess:princess:

Congrats!!! I was wondering about you the other day...glad to hear all is well :)

Congratulations! Enjoy all of the wonderful double cuddles!

Congrats!!

Congrats! I must say, that's some big girls! I know you have to be so much more comfortable. I know lots of twin mamas and I believe you have carried the longest and had the biggest. Congrats on doing so well.

Thanks everyone! It feels sooo good to have my body back to myself though I'm still dealing with some pelvic & back issues though those are probably to be expected, lol!!

We were a bit of a spectacle at the hospital... apparently the biggest & longest gestation twins most of the staff had seen. We constantly had nurses, residents, students & even housekeeping in & out of our room, wanting to see the 39-weekers, lol.

It's been a HUGE adjustment here at home though. Either DH or my mom are with me 24/7 to help out & I seriously don't know how/when I'll ever be able to take care of them on my own. I can't even feed them w/o needing help. :worried:

It does get easier. I remember those days for sure. If you are nursing, learn to feed them together and experiment the position that works best for you. If you are using a bottle, I found that boppy pillows were my friends. I sat on the couch between the boys and with them in the boppies, fed them together. I also used the bouncer seats for this. They also make a self feeding bottle designed for moms with multiples. I tried and my boys didn't do well with it. Can't remember the name. It's great you have help. We didn't have much as my mother is far away and his mother was NO as in ZERO help and I was a first time mom. I promise, you can do it! Good luck and we are all here for support.

Just curious....

Did anyone take classes through their hospital & find it helpful?

Our hospital offers a "Managing Multiples" class & I'm not sure if its worth it. While its not super expensive, money is tight right now & I don't want to spend unnecessarily. Its also at an inconvenient time, is 2 and half hours long, & only offered once every 3 months.

Here is the description:

"A class designed to help new parents understand the special nature of a multiple pregnancy. Tips on how to survive those first few months will be shared. We will tour our neonatal intensive care unit that evening."

Not a whole lot of information :scratchin

If you feel like it would help you and make you feel more confident, then maybe do it. But if you're not sure, maybe just read some books on raising multiples. Our local library had several relating to twin parenting. I would also suggest talking it over with your partner, I know personally, my DH probably would have been in favor of taking a class to increase his comfort level.

In my opinion, you can't really "prepare" for it with a class. Being a twin parent is on the job learning! If it were me, I would skip the class in favor of saving money and time. I know at least at our hospital, you can sign up for a free tour of the birthing center, so maybe contact your hospital and see if you can just tour the NICU.

Good luck to you in whatever you decide! :)

I would skip it. I think if you find the right twin website you will get all the help/ support you need.
I know I found twinstuff when i was put on couch rest in the beginning of my twin pregnancy. I don't think i would have breastfeed my girls if it wasn't for that site.

I have boy/girl twins that just turned 2 this month. First trip to Disney will be in December!!!!

We did take an expecting twins class. We also took basic childbirth prep class and breast feeding class. I enjoyed the twins class because in Both other classes it was "this is this, except for you guys with twins. " over and over. I felt like we totally didn't belong. At the twins class, which was taught by a nurse who has twins herself, it was all about us. The best thing I took from the class though was meeting another expectant twin family that we have become good friends with, have play dates together, etc.
