TTC thread take 2

Thank you for that info  I wouldn't be surprised if one of those is the case. They do believe that the 2 10cm cysts I've had on my left ovary (one in 2000, one this past time) were unruptured follicles :confused3

Funny how it also mentions Advil and Aleve...I have a male friend who was diagnosed as completely infertile, and he was told it was due to his use of those drugs (he has a bum knee and has taken those 2 drugs for YEARS). Unfortunately, I, too, spent many years taking Aleve for my cramps. It was the only thing that helped. I now take only 2 ibuprofen per day (400 mg).

Is this the "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" book? I am waiting for a coupon from Barnes & Noble; I've heard a lot of good press about it and I'd like to buy it.

I am starting to bleed today, so I called DH and told him that if he wants to talk to the doctor, make the appointment. I'm a terrible wife; I put it on him because he's so limited to time off and it's easier for him to negotiate with the receptionist ;) In the meantime, I think I will throw myself into designing my mom's future home...gives me something to keep busy...just hope she likes what I'm throwing out there :goodvibes

The ovusoft message boards are based off the TCOYF book....really, truly helpful.

I am sure the RE freaked the heck out of you....I know it would have flipped me out, too. ((((hugs)))) on bleeding. It just sucks all the way around....I am sorry you have to go through it....

Did he ever freak me out! In May, before my birthday, I got, "You're only 37, you're young, you do have time." But after my birthday in July, it was all serious, "Well, you're 38, you don't have much time left." Rinse, repeat; rinse, repeat...I actually did finally freak out on him; "What, is God sitting at some vast control panel with a fertility dimmer switch? On a woman's 38th birthday, He says, 'Oh, she's 38 now, better turn that down...' "

He was not amused. I felt better, though ;)

What's up TTC ladies? :)

Nothing much here. Getting ready for our class Thursday. Nervous, but excited!

We have an appointment with our RE on Feb. 6th. The first one, not the one who did my surgeries (when the surgeries were done, he sent me back to the first one).

I'm choosing to look forward to our Florida trip on March 16th. DH's parents are snowbirds, so we're going to visit. In all the years we've been together, I still have not gone with him. They have a mobile home in Clearwater, so we'll spend some time there; they are looking forward to taking me to all their favorite restaurants, the flea market, the HRC in Tampa so I can get a Hurricane glass for my collection...and yes, a 2-day trip to Disney!

Who knows...maybe some rest and relaxation and de-stressing will do the trick :goodvibes

Well my fsh test was 'well within normal range' whatever that means, so that's good. Not sure how I'd have coped if they said I had no eggs.

Just found this thread. Been TTC for seven years three mc's no baby yet. Our third IUI just failed this morning. First with a timed hcg trigger. Using femara.

Well my fsh test was 'well within normal range' whatever that means, so that's good. Not sure how I'd have coped if they said I had no eggs.

I always asked for the actual results, I liked to track if there were changes.

That is good news. Mine was borderline high and I had a very low afc, but still managed to have a somewhat reasonable response to meds.

We did end up really liking this new doctor. Plus, everything is cheaper at that practice. Things the other office said would not be covered by my insurance, this office says will be.I asked my HR person about it (worried it wasn't on the up and up) and he said, "No, it's just that having the right person doing the billing and coding is worth their weight in gold."

Speaking of insurance coverage, someone said their insurance wouldn't cover a pregnancy from ART. My HR guy doubts that that is legal, since preventative care now has mandatory coverage.

Update:

I am waiting for my next AF to being our cycle. Oh how fun that is huh?

Then I can start Clomid on cycle day 5. Our fertility plan includes clomid, injectables, and timed BD. Taking progesterone as needed.

So just waiting now...:good vibes

How's everyone going?

Starting first round of Femara tomorrow, HSG test next Thursday.

:grouphug:

Looks like I'm about to have another week of depression, anger, and lots of crying. My temperature spiked 2 days after ovulation and has stayed up - by a full 2 degrees - and I felt a weird fluttering in my abdomen on Saturday night. But this morning when I used my daily Crinone, there was blood on the applicator. Once again, I didn't even get to go through the entire prescription like the doctor said I would...

DH and I talked and I think we've made the decision to leave it up to the Lord (I'm not trying to get religious, that's just the way we said it). We go to the best facility in the area; we drive an hour one way to get there, and frankly, we don't feel it's worth it for what amounts to a 14% chance (with IVF). We've spoken to many people who have tried IUI and NONE of them had any success. One couple - my mother's coworker's son and DIL - tried it twice. They didn't want to waste their third and final insurance try, so they tried on their own - and got pregnant naturally the first time. Maybe the difference there was that it was the man, and he got himself fixed up :confused3

Just feeling sad. I feel like our time is running out - stupid reason; our lucky number is 13 and we only have a short time left for a baby to be born in 2013. How silly is that? I guess it doesn't matter in the end. I know of many women who got pregnant naturally after 40 and everything was fine (and I still have a year and a half before that milestone).

ETA: if anyone can explain the whole temp thing, I'd appreciate it. Every single month, I'm keeping track and it's going up significantly after ovulation, but then I get my period and it goes down afterward. My doctor and nurse can't seem to explain it either - they both say that if it stays up, it's a good indication that "something is happening." I can't possibly be conceiving and losing it every month...

I'm low on natural progesterone, hence the Crinone - 8% progesterone gel that I have to put in every morning starting on the 3rd day after ovulation. My luteal phase is probably all over the board, but looking back...it's been 16 days, 14 days, and as of today, 12 days (I'm not totally bleeding yet...no cramping, not even spotting). The Crinone is a 15-day supply and supposedly, my period won't show up until after I'm done with it, but last month, I only got through 12 days and my period showed up right on its typical schedule.

Clomid...I spoke to the doctor about it and even she's on the fence. I've had ultrasounds at ovulation and every single time, I've had one, sometimes two follicles, so she doesn't really feel that I need it. Not to mention that they won't use it unless we agree to do IUI (DH has some personal issues with that procedure), and the health psychologist on staff is pushing them to stop using it, as she feels that it's horrible.

And temperature...the timing of the "dip" is what's confusing me. It goes up and stays up until AFTER my period is over. I'm normally cold, in the low 96s, and it goes up to the high 97s/low 98s until the day after my period ends, which is about 3 weeks after ovulation :confused3 I told our nurse about that and she just said, "Yeah...that's good..."

I do appreciate any help from anyone...I think I'm just sad about having my proverbial heart ripped out every month. All of the doctors have said that we do have a chance..."not a great chance, but decent. Typical for patients your age with your problems" (they won't give us a number, though).

I used to frequent this board and I'm back now so I wanted to chime in. DH and I are proof that IUI's CAN work. Sure they have a lower success rate but my DH has low motility and we got pregnant on our 2nd IUI with 100k sperm post wash. My DS is 2 years old now. I'm not saying it's the greatest odds but it can work and it's more affordable than IVF. As for the Clomid, there are other drugs out there that aren't as hard that do the same thing. Ask your doc about Femera. I'm not sure what exactly you and your husband's fertility issues are but I hope this helps at least a little. You said you don't know anyone that an IUI has worked for, well, now you do. :) Are there any other RE's in your area? Sounds to me like yours is a little condescending and not very uplifting to your situation. Infertility is hard enough w/o a doc with bad bedside manners.

Hi ladies! I see at least one familiar name here. The rest I don't know so let me introduce myself

My name is Carla. I'm 31. I was here a couple years ago going through IUI's, like you all looking for support from women in similar situation. My DH has low motility but there's nothing wrong with me. Our 2nd IUI worked despite a very low sperm count post wash and our DS Alex is now 2. We are gearing up for IVF this go round. We hope to be cycling in May (our 10th wedding anniversary). I look forward to getting to know you ladies and see some BFP's in the near future! :thumbsup2

Oh and before we did our IUI's we TTC'd for 5 years on our own. We haven't been preventing pregnancy since DS was born which is why we are going the IVF route this time.

How is everyone doing? Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. :goodvibes

Question: I have a checkup with my GP coming up and I am due for my injections like diphtheria, tetanus, etc. I'm concerned about having some of them because of TTC. Did any of you have your shots during this time and which ones? Just wondering.

Huge (to us) set back yesterday. We saw the RE last month and she made us feel A LOT better, so we agreed to try one round of IUI with injectables (she showed us that they have much better results with that instead of Clomid). If it doesn't work, we start IVF immediately. Still don't want to do that, but when she showed us that a 14% success rate was better than the less than 1% chance that I have naturally, well :confused3...We were set to begin after we return from Florida, the last week of March. We got authorization from insurance, the doctor's office got authorization from insurance...and then yesterday, we get notification from insurance that the facility is not in the network. They will pay NOTHING.

We both feel sick. We were both crying all night. A year and a half, 4 doctors, several medications, 2 surgeries...all the preparation, the severity of my issues and the 100% probability that they will return...we don't have the luxury of waiting any longer. Not to mention that I'm due for another biopsy; it's been 6 months since my D&C and I have to have a biopsy to ensure that the hyperplasia has not returned. Our only hope is that our current RE can quickly find us someone that is in the network and convince them skip the pleasantries and begin immediately. My mother works in a doctor's office and she says the doctors are constantly calling other doctors on the patient's behalf when time is of the essence.

Leger13/Carla, you've given me a little hope  I was told that because of the severity of my problems, I only have a 2% chance of IUI working. The problems are all mine...I have (had, before surgery) an endometriosis level of 116, it was covering pretty much all of my organs (including bladder, had some that had wrapped around one tube and "choked" it off), 3 fibroids (one of which is stuck in the wall of my uterus and can't be removed), 3 ovarian cysts (10 cm, 6 cm, and 7 cm), and complex endometrial hyperplasia with atypia. All 4 doctors told me flat out, "You really need to have a hysterectomy and end it all," but they agreed to try to give us one baby first. DH and I are both going to be 39 this summer...thankfully, he has no problems - didn't think he would; his brother had a child at 36, his father was 38 and 40 when DH and his younger sister were born.

Could someone please remove this black cloud we seem to have hanging over us (not just this...we have a lot of things just going the wrong way right now)? :grouphug:

Looking like today is going to be day one of our first IUI/injectibles cycle as well. I do want to ask the dr. though if he doesn't think I should be checked for endometriosis before that.

I wish I could take the cloud away, but I can give you a big hug girl.

I'm glad I've given you a bit of hope but I'm SO SORRY to hear about all of your issues and now that your RE isn't in your insurance network. Infertility is hard enough without the added crap. I will be praying your current RE can find someone in network for you that's willing to start IUI right away. My insurance doesn't cover infertility treatments at all so we have to pay for everything OOP. I'm actually getting a loan for our upcoming IVF. We also paid OOP for my IUI's to get pregnant with DS. Money sucks! Have you thought about possibly freezing some of your eggs and trying to use a surrogate instead? I know it's a hard thought to give up the possibility of carrying your own child. Another lady on here a year or so ago used a surrogate and has a beautiful DS from that.

Looking like today is going to be day one of our first IUI/injectibles cycle as well. I do want to ask the dr. though if he doesn't think I should be checked for endometriosis before that.

Good luck with this cycle!! I'm surprised your Dr hasn't checked for Endo and all that before hand. Have you had an HSG and ultrasounds?
