How high is too much for you?

With the ticket increase now announced, I was thinking about this earlier.

How high will ticket and resort prices have to go before you and your family are priced out of vacationing at Disney? Have you already been priced out?

For some, it comes down to cost vs. perceived value.

Or does price not matter and you will pay whatever they charge, because it is Disney?

My parents/brothers/sisters live in Orlando. We usually go to see them once a year, sometimes twice. We are on the west coast, and actually prefer Disneyland, but between airfare and ticket prices, it is cheaper overall to go to WDW with APs instead of doing a trip to Orlando to see family and a separate trip to DL. If the APs get much higher, we will just stop going, as frankly, we are over 2k easily in park tickets alone.

My youngest will turn 3 before our next trip.

I feel kind of ill looking at the prices, but frankly, we've already 'voted with our wallet' - we're not visiting as much and spending roughly the same on tickets for a family of 4 that we were on just DH and I.

We have been priced out of table service restaurants and character buffets. So far, we feel like we get our money's worth out f the parks.

A one-day adult ticket at a Disney park costs the same as an adult annual pass at the amusement park near where our families live and TWO adult annual passes at another park a few hours away.

I still feel Disney is an affordable experience even with the price increases. Staying offsite and refraining myself from enjoying Disney dining is not an option for us.

Hmmmm...

Just priced an 8 day PH+water for a family of 4 incl. tax it is over $1700. Any way you look at it, that's inching along to $2,000 just to walk into the parks.

I am glad we plans this, our last trip with the kids still being kids (they are 17 & 20 ;) )

Tickets bought
Excellent discount on CL room
Pretty good airfare considering prices this year) purchased with points
Lots of piggy bank cash, gift cards and Disney $$ for food and spending $$

=

Perfect timing and we are happy!

:)

That is something I hadn't considered. Feeling priced out of food, but still feeling the park tickets were a good value.

:)

In order to stay on budget for Disney I've shortened my stay by one day. The Hotel and food savings keeps things the same. I still have to maximize park time however to get my money's worth.

So you're firmly in the "will pay whatever they charge because it is Disney" camp.

We've already booked a 4 night cruise for this upcoming September, and were planning on maybe three park days plus MNSSHP. With the ticket increase I'm reconsidering. I think we might give the Universal parks a try instead. We've never been there, and it seems that we can make better use of our limited time at those parks instead of WDW.

For me, it's all about perspective.

It cost DH and I $42 to see the 2.5 hr Star Trek movie in an IMAX theater last week. So, the way I look at it, spending $58/day for 12+ hours in a Disney theme park (based on the increased price of a 5-day ticket), is a relative bargain.

We still eat 1 lunch at the sci fi and plaza and QS for pretty much everything else. We are also renting DVC points to stay deluxe this time. It's just tough to justify the buffet prices for our 3 year old on the character meal front.

Tell me about it! My DD is now 10, weighs all of 60 pounds and can barely finish a McDonald's Happy Meal, yet She's a Disney dining adult LOL.

There are other parks that you can go to for AN ENTIRE YEAR for $58/person! THAT'S putting it in perspective.

We live 9 hours by plane away from Disney, if we're going to spend over $1,500 in plane tickets to get there why would I want to stay offsite, having to drive to Disney to do everything and taking sandwiches to the parks to save a few bucks? We don't more than once per year, we have a savings account specially for those trips. Like I said it's still a good value for us so you'll see me back next year and probably the year after that.

The closest park to me is Six Flags Great Adventure, which is 3 hours away. The last time we went the lines were ridiculous, the food was horrible and the employees were surly.

Even if the passes were comped, it still wouldn't be worth it.

And yes, that's *my* perspective.

We will continue to visit. It might come down to not as many days...or staying offsite and dining more offsite, or visiting less often than once a year. We already go during value season, drive 1,000 miles each way, bring our own snacks and water, and take advantage of discounts (either 20-30% off rooms or "free dining", depending on what's a better value).

During our 1 day trip to Cedar Point last year, I just kept saying, "This ain't Disney, folks!" due to the scowling ride operators, less than appealing restrooms and food options, and practically no air conditioned reprieves (but mostly due to the scowling ride operators). Disney has an unmatched show compared to other theme parks with lower ticket prices, and that's a lot of what we like. As long as they keep that going, we'll try to keep going!

But I agree that the price increases are getting more and more depressing.
