How many comps have you recieved?

In another thread the topic of receiving several comps has arisen. I travel some for both work and pleasure and I've never had a stay that was so bad I felt the hotel owed me something for staying there. If I had a really bad experience that I thought was out of the norm for the place, I'd give them another chance and take a comp, but I wouldn't keep coming back if it is so bad I felt I needed to be comped on multiple occasions. There were way more people than I expected responding that they get comps routinely.

How many comps have you received from Disney? Is this more or less than you have received from other hotels?

Please, no bashing of anyone that has (or hasn't) received comps.

None. We've had free upgrades but never for a problem. Never got anything from a resort and never had an issue that warranted it. And I have quite a few stays at Disney.

I was the reason for a comp at a completely non-disney related hotel. I have a bad allergy to mold and years ago when my brother was getting married I had went up before my parents to stay at a hotel near the wedding site. We were taking my sister-in-law to be out to dinner and the girls were going to stay with me at the hotel (I was 19). When I arrived at the hotel and went in my room I got an instant migraine and chalked it up to travel. After dinner we were in the room and I kept feeling worse and worse finally I began to vomit every 30 minutes. Again I attributed it to travel, migraine, or stomach bug. I finally called my parents and told them (it was an awful morning as my mom's mother also passed away that morning). When they got there and walked in the room my dad said "can't you smell the mold". The hotel had an indoor pool and moisture had setup in the ventilation system. I had breathed it in all day/night but didn't know. Dad raised 10 kinds of hell as I was very ill and pretty dehydrated. They moved us to the other side of the hotels and comped our entire stay. I instantly began to feel better when we moved. I couldn't participate in the wedding rehearsal or dinner. I was a bridesmaid too. So, you should see how pale/sickly I was in wedding photos... I promise I am not making that up. This was a reputable hotel chain too. Things happen.

I personally have never felt the need to complain about anything. Minor things happen as long as I have a clean room in working condition and the door locks I am happy. I don't expect perfection as I'm not perfect.

Zero. I've stayed at the majority of the resorts (ASSp, ASMo, POP, AoA being the exceptions) and not once have I been upset enough to warrant a litany of complaints. The only time I was displeased was in 2011 at ASMu. I booked the resort to save a bit of money but was shocked to see just how small our room was and how worn out. I let them know at the front desk and asked for them to check availability at the moderates so we could switch. The next morning I checked us into CSR but I footed the bill. I would never expect a comp just because our original resort wasn't what I had pictured.

Zero, nada, never...have stayed at all Values, Mods and 4 deluxe over 40 trips! maybe someday :rolleyes1 waiting for some pixie dust

We are DVC and have stayed at ALL the WDW DVC resorts (plus the 2 east coast beach resorts) and POR and CR...and NEVER were we comped anything nor were we ever upgraded. We have never complained about anything though and all the rooms we've stayed in have been in working order (did have drippy tub faucet at BCV and we told the desk at check-out...it didn't bother us during our stay). The only room/resort related issue we have ever had at Disney was our key cards not working (and having to go back to the desk to get them fixed). We are not too picky though.

I guess we did have another resort related issue, though DH and I would have let this go too (but BIL did not let it go). We were left stranded all alone at a water park at midnight (SIL and I with 5 kids...it was open late one night and our BWV bus never came, the lights all shut down and no CMs could be found...we flagged down one of the last buses and they refused to pick us up even though it was a nearly empty bus. We ended up getting upgraded from basic DP to deluxe DP (for the last 4 days of our trip). BIL had to complain a lot to the manager at BWV (the manager did blow him off for a couple days which made BIL more mad). When BIL finally met with manager, it was a little embarrassing for DH and I and we worried that we'd be blacklisted or something...and maybe we were because our next couple DVC stays, our rooms were kind of in bad/noisy locations (we're hardly ever in our room so we didn't mind all that much).

once....but I didn't ask for it. We had 2 rooms at All Star Sports and after being subjected to chanting, singing, food throwing, leap frogging, food throwing from foreign tour groups in the food court our first night, I very nicely went to the front desk to ask if there was any way we could move to a different resort, Pop Century perhaps? They were so nice and I think they were aware of the issues in the foodcourt because the manager was not surprised at all and so genuinely apologetic. She found us a 2 bedroom suite at Kidani Village and as excited as I was at the prospect, I insisted that wasn't necessary but she insisted it was. Turned out to be a pretty smart move on their part because we are hooked on the suites. I haven't bought DVC but I'm saving for it!!

We get upgraded all the time. I have gotten comped, but nothing that I ever asked for.

We got a $100 resort credit one time because the bellman broke a bottle of wine when he was bringing our luggage into the room. Totally uncalled and unasked for, and we did protest, but we still got the credit.

We also got a $100 resort credit another time when we had around 50 KTTW card for our party of 7 during a 6 night stay. We had so many problems that trip with no one's card opening the villa doors, and only one card working for the dining plan for 7 people - it was a complete nightmare. I think the manager at KV felt so sorry for me that my vacation was spent at the front desk talking to him that he threw me the $100 bone.

I would love to have seen the reaction from the poster on the other thread about the YC rooms if she had to deal with a real vacation disaster like the one we had at Kidani Village :)

I have gotten 2 minor upgrades at POR - once from standard to preferred and once from preferred to king (still in preferred.) My son and I were given a free (tiny) glass of dessert wine at Artist Point from a waiter who had messed up my order twice. But, he was so much fun that it didn't really bother either of us and we certainly didn't ask for anything.

No comps for me, but I'm a pretty happy traveler. One time at POFQ, the room didn't smell right and I asked to be moved and was moved immediately. I've also asked to have things fixed in a room at various WDW properties (missing light bulb, retractable clothesline installed upside down, closet door not closing properly) and they are typically fixed while we were at the parks the same day. One time, at BWI, I really wanted that clothesline over the tub because of our swimsuits. I called and left notes for housekeeping and it still wasn't fixed after two days. The housekeeper caught me in the hall late one afternoon and asked if it had been fixed. I said no. She said, "I will call my husband and tell him to get right up here. That's not right." He worked for maintenance and he was there fast!

Anyway, I prefer that my little problems are fixed and find that they are usually not aware of the problems and appreciate us bringing them to their attention.

I have never received nor asked for a comp. However, I have been upgraded but it was not because I asked for it, instead a little pixiedust: came my way.

We've never gotten anything comped or had an upgrade.
I sort of cringe when people start listing the things they've gotten comped for because we've had some REALLY bad things happen at Disney, both by chance and directly due to CM error or cruelty even. We once checked into a room that had no working tub or shower, rotting food in the fridge, construction in the neighboring rooms (7am wakeup call was a hammer every day!) the nearest elevators were all closed for construction use, and they did fire alarm tests multiple days while my infant was napping. It took a full day to get them to fix the little pull knob so we could get shower water, and they still hadn't gotten us a stopper for the tub until the week was almost over. Compared to the OP of that other thread, I should have gotten a free week GF RPC for that stay. I always leave these threads feeling like Disney just doesn't like or appreciate me, but I can't stop looking. And then we go back again.

ETA- Forgot to mention with that room, at check-in they never gave us a room number, and while we arrived at 10 am, we didn't have a room available until 7pm, our luggage didn't come until 11pm, by which point I had a sleeping 6 year old and 6 month old in my bed because they forgot the pack and play.

No comps in over 15 visits, but last trip we decided to stay at Pop an extra night instead of staying off site. Front desk told us we'd have to switch rooms, but that they could put us preferred instead. So we got a minor upgrade on a room.
