Okay, so I log on to make some ressies for the Holidays and since we are thinking of staying at the Contemporary for Christmas, I went in the website to reserve Cali Grill only to begin hyperventilating when I saw that they would charge my card $1190 to make the reservation!!!!:scared1: :scared1: We have not eaten there in a couple of years so I am not sure if this is new, but it seems pretty far fetched even for California Grill. Is this a glitch or is this a new requirement? I am in utter disbelief.

Sounds like a glitch. I'd be calling the dining line to let them know and make my ADR that way. I don't think we spend that much on food the whole week.

Another thought......how many in your party. Are they making you prepay for a special meal because of the Christmas special event?
Still seems far fetched but ........

We are staying at BLT for the holidays and I was looking to make a res at CG for NYE until I saw that the special dinner for that night is over $500 per person. So, if you are booking for NYE it is not a glitch. We are now having our NYE dinner at Chef Mickey's lol

Yes, we were trying for NYE, wow so that is the price? I had no idea they had a special event going on. Even so $500 per person is way more than I want to spend. We shall make reservations elsewhere. Thanks for the info!

We are only 2, but wow, that is so much money to spend in one night on food. Way to bring in the new year, lol.

That must be one heck of a meal for $500/pp! :scared1:
If anyone dines here on NYE, please take pictures and do a report for us! :worship:

This is a one night, one time option. It's not like the California Grill does this every night. It's New Year's Eve starting at 8 PM and it does involve a party atmosphere. Would I do it? No but plenty will. Really does sound like a nice event but unless we win the lottery soon, I'm not paying for it. But I wlll bet it's sold out.

I'm sure will sell out for this event since it's more than dinner it's a whole evening. The price is a bit too high I think for even a New Year's Eve party but it's disney world so I guess they can get that price. I would hope they'd have great entertainment, fabulous champagne & cocktails with lots of cabs outside to carry the guest to their resorts : )

I'm not defending it or saying it's over priced. I was simply putting the information out for anyone who may be interested. Take it for what it's worth.

Given that the price includes wine and a "Call Brand" open bar, the price for children is unconscionable. It is clearly their way of saying that no one under the age of 21 is welcome. Which is their choice. But just say that. Charging a 19 year old $595 for a meal without the wine and open bar is just ridiculous. They would be better served by saying: "16 and older only" and then making the price for the minors something closer to $395. I can see why they wouldn't want 5 year olds in princess costumes at the party. But charging families that have older teenagers full price for half an experience doesn't sit well here.

Wow-that is crazy! For that price, I'd rather spend New Years in a glammed up room at the Contemporary with a counter service meal!:rotfl:

I'm curious to know if Victoria & Alberts offers a NYE meal & how that compares in price to the one at California Grill?

Someone posted on here last week that Narcoosee's is doing the same thing for NYE....out of sight pricing. Makes me wonder how many other disney restaurants are following this 'trend'.

Honestly, your teenager probably shouldn't go either. So I think this is a good idea it cuts out the "but my child is well behaved argument" Adult means Adult not "16 going on 21" LOL

But everytime Disney actually trys to do Adult they get the "but MY child' whine.... And Disney should be for EVERYONE. So it is. And since you want everyone then "everyone" should be equal. :rotfl2: And I bet you don't take your child unless you are really into wasting money (And there are always a few!)

Narcoossee's is between $300-400, but it's pretty close to last years price. I didn't see any history for California Grill.

The Victoria and Alberts NYE meal is 695/pp.

And Like I said in my previous post, I am not here to debate prices. I am just giving the information to assist my Guests.

I'm glad it was posted it's interesting and I hope someone jumps on here and says their going so I can read the details after New Year's Eve : ) honestly if I was there during NYE with adults I would be one of those who would think it's overpriced yet I would consider it for us ... Sounds like a good time to me : )
