There are 2 groupons right now for big wave Dave or Reeled in Surf for surf lessons. It would my dd 21's 2nd time. Have you heard anything about either of these??

you might check on trip advisor for reviews. We bought a groupon for surfing a few years ago and it turned out great. Not the companies you have listed though. It was on the north shore and she took us to see the turtles too. Ended up just my kids and I in the group.

Not through Groupon but we used a company on the North Shore - Button's Surf and SUP School - We had a great time, the instructors were fun and encouraging and everyone got up and caught a wave. Great time!

Check them out on TripAdvisor.

We are going to Aulani this fall. We heard great things about Hawaii Fire and Surf. I called to book with them and they said they will no longer be offering surf lessons. Does anybody have experience with any of the other companies?

You called Hawaiian Fire at 808-737-3473 and they told you that? I am SHOCKED. This is who Aulani uses for their surf lesson excursion also. That being said, Girls who Surf were at the same beach/same time during our lesson with Hawaiian Fire.

Yes! They told me that they are going to focus on their merchandise line instead. I am super bummed because so many friends in real life and on line posters have said that Hawaiian Fire and Surf was the highlight of their vacation. I have heard of Girls Who Surf. I'll look into them. I wonder if they offer photography? I haven't checked Aulani's website to see if the Fire excursion is still available there but the lady told me they were done in September!

Well that's a bummer. They do have the retail shop in Ko Olina. I'd be willing to bet Girls Who Surf offer photography. They seemed to have the same kind of set up as Hawaiian Fire. We were there June 24-July 4th. Let me know if you have any questions. Eat at Monkeypod :)

I'm sure I'll have questions!

Is Monkeypod near Aulani? Off to search that!

Thanks!

Yes, In the shopping plaza across the street (along with the Hawaiian Fire retail shop). Monkeypod offers a happy hour everyday, too. Best meal we had on the island.

That is a huge bummer!! We did Hawaii Fire for our lessons back in December and loved it.

They need to put that on their website if it is the case, as the website say absolutely nothing to indicate that they are no longer offering lessons:

I would be really tempted to call back just to double check because it seems weird that they would have nothing on their website about this change.

We booked with the Aulani excursion desk for private lessons and Girls Who Surf is running it....

Thanks for the Monkey Pod tip.

Maybe I should call Hawaii Fire again. I do think its odd that it is not on their website and that it is still listed on the Disney excursions.

Yesterday I booked 1 hour lessons with Girls Who Surf. I hope 1 hour is long enough. I have a 6 year old son and I thought he would be exhausted after an hour!

I think you might be right. My daughter (12) is a competitive swimmer so she was OK with the 2 hour lesson. However, for a few of the other kids, the two hours was just too much.

I know! It makes me really question it... I can't imagine why the person on the phone would say that though.... the only thing I can think of would be a disgruntled employee?... but that just seems odd. I would sure be tempted to call again and see if I can confirm it with a different employee.

We are likely doing Girls Who Surf as they seem to be the only one who will take 4 year olds. My current 3 year old is excited about the idea of surfing which he saw in San Diego this summer.

A six year old who's used to the ocean will be catching a lot of waves in 1 hour! One who doesn't know the ocean, maybe a few less.

Have a blast!!!
