Disney's CONTEMPORARY RESORT Information & Questions

Booked our trip for Aug 2015 at CR today....10 days in TPV room. We stayed at Poly last summer and had an incredible experience. We wanted to try CR to compare it to see which one we like best..but I'm nervous we will end up missing the Poly. What do you guys think in regards to comparing the two resorts? I'm really excited to be at CR, because it is a resort I've always wanted to try!

I booked my stay at the CR a month ago for June 2015. I'm hoping there will be a CR/BLT 2015 thread to count down our days until our vacations and see who is coming and staying when. :teacher:

I go between all the mono resorts, BLT,cr, gf,VGF and poly!

My favorite is always the one I have booked next;)

They all have strengths and weaknesses.

For cr the strengths: That view!!!! Being able to walk to/from MK , I enjoy looking over balcony wall in hallway overlooking the main concourse, modern theming, separate toilet area, the lighted closets(like poly) and the lighted tile tv stand thingy, the pools are so less crowded, nice beach area also not crowded, easy access to poly and gf for meals, shopping or strolling the grounds, one mono stop to transfer TO Epcot, quick boat to WL also to explore/eat, when in tower all amenities enclosed which is nice in bad weather/hot/cold, good QS and did I mention that Viewprincess:

Weaknesses: going to pool from tower is a distance when all wet from pool, have to use an elevator(if claustrophobic ), not as much lushness of grounds but modern and pretty still. Price(a GV room at poly is usually much less than a cr TPV) , the sink area is inside the bath so if showering the family really can't access sinks(vs gf,BLT, VGF they are separate).

I would definitely recommend trying it! Visit poly if you miss it! I feel like I am staying at all of them when I am there, you just sleep at one and plat, eat, shop them all:beach:

Are there accessible inputs on the tv in the garden wing to hook up a mini dvd player for movie watching?

Family trip planned later at the end of this year. Staying at BLT- one group in a 2 bedroom Lakeview and the other group is my two young nieces (4.5 years old and 23 months) with their parents in 2 bedroom Theme park view. My only concern is the 2 bedroom dedicated villas and the lockout 2 bedroom villas. Wanting 2 bedroom dedicated. Anyone have any experience with this?

Coming to you live from the CR. We moved over here after 4 lovely nights at the YC. Love the smell in the lobby here; makes it seem like we've come home. Had a great surprise this afternoon upon check-in: MK view!!! Love seeing the castle; hearing the train, and can't wait to watch Wishes from balcony. Life is good here at the CR

I can't compare the CR to the Poly as we've never stayed at the CR, but like you, it's a resort I want to try. The Poly is amazing as it's our favorite, but I'm sure you will have a great time and will find plenty that you like about the CR during your stay :wizard:.

Congrats on booking for next year, it's never too early to plan :goodvibes.

I can't answer your question, but hopefully someone else will be able to help :flower3:.

I don't have any experience with BLT, but wanted to say that I hope you have a great trip :wizard:.

We will be there in only 4 days!! OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you see the water parade from TPV rooms?
When do they actually assign rooms? Has anyone had any luck calling the resort directly for a room request?

Rooms are assigned 2-3 days out. You can't call the resort itself. But you can call the main reservation line and add any room requests to your reservation. If you're 4 days out, I would call today.

I was actually told my the main line last week that I had to call the resort with specific room requests? We need a VIP cleaning done in our room, and the CM I spoke to told me she could not add that to my reservation, I needed to speak directly to the resort.

WE had to book either Park View or Lake View.
It was quite alot more for Park View, so fairly sure we will be allocated two Lake views as it costs more?

I did consider getting one Park View and One Lake view so we could watch from either side. but then realised its probably quite a trek from one side to the other

Thanks, WDWKOOK. You do a great job with this thread!
Awww, thank you, Jen.

Has anyone ever seen the pool bar open late? I thought I read somewhere it closed at 7 while the pool closes at 11....anyone had any experiences with this?
The Disney website shows the Cove Bar closing at 7. The Outer Rim next to the CC and CM closes much later, but you'd have to go inside the Tower.

Congratulations on booking your first stay! I think you're going to love being so close to the MK. Your TPV will be awesome and you can walk right to the MK. It's also great having everything you need in one building.

The thread continues year to year and I re-post it when it gets close to 250 pages. If you post your dates, I'll log them for you in POST 1.

I thought there was a covered area at the bottom of the TV with inputs? I may be wrong about this because I also thought there was a DVD player in all rooms, like at WL, but I think they're only in the CL rooms at CR?

I'm sorry that I can't answer your question. But, I am curious about the party with only 3 and one under 3 in their group needing a two-bedroom villa:confused3.

I've always liked the Contemporary, but also found its service to be a little ... off. My most recent experience, over the holiday weekend, seemed to confirm that.

There were no major problems (unlike some prior trips), but an assortment of small oddities - e.g., a clogged tub drain, a room clock that was 30 minutes fast, a set of hand towels the first night that were visibly yellow, and a front desk that didn't know the TV channel for the Wishes music simulcast.

This doesn't seem to happen to me at other Disney resorts, so I'm curious if others get the same unexpected not-quite-ready-for-prime-time vibe?

Has anyone ever called the resort to see if they were assigned a room number? Has anyone ever not liked their room location and was able to upgrade upon check in?

2 weeks from today, we will be there!!:cheer2: I am so excited!! Just a random question- on arrival day, I had planned to just hang out at the resort, maybe hit the pool and eat a dinner at Contempo Cafe. It is a normal Wishes night at MK, and I know there is an observation deck where they can be seen, but how about other locations? We will be staying in the Garden Wing, so no view from our beds :(. When we stayed at Poly, we watched them from the beach. Is that possible at CR?

Anyone?:confused3

I believe that BLT and CR block most of the view of Wishes from the beach/pool area:

THE WISHES NIGHTLY MAGIC KINGDOM FIREWORKS last about 12 minutes. Preferred CR/BLT viewing locations:

~Magic Kingdom/Theme Park View Tower rooms/balconies. (And Atrium and Tower Club balconies.)

~BLT Magic Kingdom/Theme Park View rooms/balconies and some Bay Lake View rooms on the north side.

~The beach offers an obstructed view.

~California Grill restaurant and observation deck (exclusively for guests with same-day reservations only).

~CR fourth floor observation deck.

We've experienced similar issues over the years, but nothing that would keep us from returning. Unlike you though, we've experienced these kinds of minor issues (and some not so minor) at all the Disney Resorts. I try to notify someone so that problems can be corrected and small problems don't become big ones, but it doesn't always get corrected prior to check-out. It would be nice if there was more overall consistency with housekeeping, management and food & beverage services. Overall, they're small things that you think should be fairly easy to correct resort-wide.

Has anyone ever called the resort to see if they were assigned a room number? Has anyone ever not liked their room location and was able to upgrade upon check in?
For security reasons, room numbers are never released prior to check-in and then they are only released when they are actually ready for occupancy.

You can always ask at check-in for a general description of your room's location, even if it isn't ready yet. If it sounds like it doesn't match the requests you have in your reservation, you can always ask if a room closer to your request is available. Sometimes it will be available and sometimes it might be available after one night and they will offer to move you the next day.

If you ask to be upgraded, be prepared to pay usually the rack rate difference, though sometimes the discounted difference, between what you booked and the upgraded room.
