Then there is pm

Can you still do both and if so how please

Sorry and thank you so much

PMs are now called "conversations". If you hover over "Inbox" at the upper right, you'll see "start a conversation" link.

You can start a conversation with a specific person or up to 10 people. They only are seen by whoever you indicate that you want the conversation with.

Yep, as PP mentions, "Conversations" are private -- this the what was previously called "PMs"

The "note" you mention are Profile Posts. These are public and anyone can read them from the recipient's profile page, and in fact the most current few are actually listed along the right-hand side of the Home page. You can post one of these from someone's Profile Page -- click on their avatar, then click on Profile Page.

I tried to start a conversation, but I got an error message telling me that I can't start a conversation with that person. Are there restrictions?

It's possible the other person has restricted from whom they wish to receive conversations to just those they "follow." In that case, you would get an error message that you are unable to start a conversation with the person. You do have the option of posting a profile message on their profile, but please recognize that is public for anyone to see (so you probably don't want to share personal details that way).

I really wish someone would make this a banner posting on the home page. I don't think people realize that they are posting messages for everyone to see and some of them contain information that probably should not be public domain (i.e. family members names, ages, cabin numbers on cruises etc etc.) It is obvious that they think they are only speaking to the person they are responding to and not every member of the DIS.

I agree.

Thanks.

I got the same message when I tried to start a conversation. So frustrating. I want the old system back.

So we've lost the ability to PM people? I'm glad to see that I'm not just losing it. :)

No, the ability is still there. PMs are now called Conversations. However, apparently some users have opted to restrict who can send them a PM/Conversation. I would say most users have not set those restrictions.

I'm still thinking there's a glitch in the system. I know of two people who have not restricted anyone from sending them conversations. I've tried using the conversation mode to contact them and the system will not permit it. So very frustrating!

Is there a way to delete conversations? I need to clean up my inbox.

If you select "Show All" Conversations, you'll be able to check all the Conversations you want to "Leave." There will be a dropdown with a number of choices..."Leave" will delete the chosen convos.

You can also Star Conversations and mark them as unread.

Also, from within each Conversation, you can select Leave Conversation up on the top right.

Do you have to have a certain number of post before you can start a conversation?

I have access to the conversation option but the system won't let me start a conversation with anyone. Wondering if maybe since I haven't posted 10 new posts since the software upgrade I'm getting this error?

Are you trying to start a conversation with someone else who doesn't have 10 posts?

You aren't required to have 10 posts since the switch to this "new" format. Or, maybe, they have their conversations blocked? People can opt out of receiving conversations.
