And what would you consider $15,000 a month to be? That's what a buddy of mine pays to his ex wife for alimony, until he retires.

No. Especially if that $100k is gross and not net. DH has just recently hit the $100k mark and we are struggling. When his gross was in the $90k range, it worked out to be about $60k range in net pay after the taxes and the cost of medical insurance was taken out. We are also paying back both our student loans as well as paying back money he had to borrow from his retirement (which is automatically taken out of his check to pay back). We don't live in NYC, but we do live out on Long Island, NY, where the cost of living is still high.

If I lived in a third world country, I'd think a family making $40,000 a year wealthy. In San Francisco, making $100k a year means you could probably live in the city instead of commuting.

Context is everything.

compared to who?
Yes compared to 3rd world countries.
A solid no, in the US.
I know this sounds awful but I seriously wonder how families with an "median" salary make it.

where I live that's barely comfortable. Its one of the reasons DH and I are considering a move in a few years. We have some obstacles that we have to work out before moving out of state

My definition of wealthy would be top 1% income by state. Or, a family with 5 mil+ in assets.

A person who makes 100k a year may be wealthy, IMO, if they have other assets.
