I bought 4 day hoppers from undercover tourist before the price increase. I am planning to upgrade these to dvc gold ap on the last day of my trip at the end of the day. It will be a blackout period when I use the 4 day hopper so that's why I'm waiting til the last day of my trip to upgrade.

With the price increase will I be able to get the current gate price credited toward the upgrade?
What should the cost of the upgrade be?

Thanks so much!

You should get the bridging unless they also change that (not saying they will, not saying they won't, I have no idea).

Take the current-at-the-time-of-upgrading gate cost of the AP and the current-at-the-time-of-upgrading gate cost of the tickets you have and subtract. That should be the cost of the upgrade.

Use the after tax prices of both

DVC gold AP is currently around $585 wth tax ($549 before taxes) don't know the current price for your ticket

I am doing this myself for my trip over Easter week. I am going to upgrade my 4 day park hopper I bought through UCT to a DVC gold on my last day. The price difference with the new ticket increase is $165.08 per ticket to upgrade to AP gold. Not a bad deal! I will going back in October for 5 days so it's a big savings for that trip alone.

The black out days is the only thing that throws me.....as far as upgrading/bridging tickets from UT to AP Gold, I did just that in December....except I did the math ahead of time so I knew and the CM made a mistake. When she told me the price I said I don't think that's correct. She had to get another CM to go over it and get the right price. Not sure if she didn't put the dvc discount in or what, but be sure to take the ticket gate price and subtract from the AP price to know exactly what the upgrade charge should be. But again, the blackout dates really concerns me whether they will upgrade it. The blackout dates don't allow the Gold pass.....but upgrading the ticket to a gold pass technically will have included it????? I'm curious to know the answer. It would make sense in the future if we ever go during a blackout time to buy a UT ticket first and then upgrade on the last day.

You have to bridge BEFORE you use that last day...if you use all the days (go into the park) and on your way out try to bridge, it's a no-go...your ticket has been used in full, nothing left to bridge. We had a ten day water park hopper that we bridged before the last day, and we were required to purchase the AP pass that included the water parks, since we already used a water park option. Still cheaper then two ten day passes...so this time we will buy water park annual passes for 1/2 of the more expensive AP, since the gold pass works for our dates.

We purchased 4 day hoppers from UT for Jan 1-4. Jan 1 was a blackout so we upgraded on Jan 3 in the morning. It was the $150something difference in price and no issues about using the original ticket on a blackout date.

possible strategy: since you are using UT ticket during DVc Gold blackout and you need 1 day left to bridge/apply to DVC Gold AP, could you add another day onto the UT ticket on your 3rd day, then, on the 4th day, apply the 5 day ticket price to DVC Gold AP? You won't get to use that 5th day b/c it's blacked out, but the $ spent should be a wash whether or not you added the 5th day. I am planning to do the same thing next year, assuming they still allow it. Please report back on successful upgrades during blackouts.

You have to bridge BEFORE you use that last day...if you use all the days (go into the park) and on your way out try to bridge, it's a no-go...your ticket has been used in full, nothing left to bridge.
This is incorrect. You can upgrade any time on the last day, and in some cases, you can even upgrade after that.

As supersnoop said, you can absolutely upgrade anytime on that last day, make sure the price gets bridged, and you will be fine. It is done all the time. Often Florida residents come during the lockout period and have to buy regular tickets. We always tell them to use the ticket and upgrade to the special tickets or annual passes before they leave, as long as they won't be using it until the blackout is over. You can upgrade, but can't use it.

Good to know that you can buy a ticket for the blackout days....then upgrade to AP.....Essentially you are buying an AP AND getting in during blackout times. I would expect this "loophole" to be closed eventually, but will keep it in mind if we ever want to go during a blackout time. So far blackout dates don't interest us anyway.

Curious question...A good friend of mine is moving to Florida (Tampa area) at the end of June. I know Florida Residents can get the silver pass but Summer is blacked out on that pass. She was planning on getting an AP for her and the kids and was bummed out when I told her about the Florida pass blackout dates. We are going in July and she wanted to come meet us there for a few days. IF she bought UT tickets for those summer dates, could she then upgrade her UT ticket to a florida pass then? Sounds like a yes from this thread.

So how do you do that?
Do you exit the park and upgrade at guest services outside the park? If you upgrade at guest services inside the park,, they know you are in there on a blackout day, and won't they require you to upgrade to Platinum?
Do all ticket booth or guest service areas know how to do this?
It sure would be a great money saver for us all if we can do it.

This "loophole" originated with the Florida passes. So, yes.

I think I've read on another thread that you don't have to exit the park to do it, but you can't ENTER any park after it's been done.

I would just use the ticket and upgrade at the in park Guest Relations before you leave. Disney will let you upgrade with it making no difference that you used the ticket during a blackout.

Does UT still have stock at the old price? My friend is moving in late June......will come visit us in July and then upgrade/bridge when she leaves to the silver pass. If she buys UT now at the old price, it will save her more than buying UT in June.

If you do this, can you upgrade to the platinum ticket, and is there any advantage in doing this?? For instance I buy UT tickets, then upgrade to an platinum annual ticket with DVC discount. When would the annual ticket date begin?

I upgraded our tickets Dec 26. After we were through with the park that day I went to guest relations and upgraded. They gave me the cost of what I paid towards the gold AP. Paid tax on the upgrade difference. I had a 8 day hopper tickets and still had a day left. guest relations outside MK gate is where I went. I was told that we could have done it inside the park and been able to use the park but once we left we wouldn't be able to get back in.
