Disney Springs Town Center Grand Opening Mega Thread!!

My point was that there are unique elements in the new section of Disney springs. A lot of people complain that it's just a mall but what else would it be?

It's a mall...

And that's ok...but of course the reactions already have to be tempered due to "IT LOOKS FANTASTIC!!!" And "how magical"

As always...put mouse ears on a portojohn and people go gah...

Check your brain at the door.

I've been to a few outdoor type malls and none of the ones I've been to don't look like this. I'm not saying they don't exist but I think this one is a bit more unique than some think. When you double the amount of stores you have to add stores that make it look like a mall and everything can't be Disney. I'm excited to check out the new dining additions especially.

Rteez, You gotta get out more...heck, Easton Town Center in Columbus, Oh has been doing this already for 20 years:)...and there are multitudes of these type of places in your metro Mid-Atlantic and Southeast areas (aka, find a major mid-atlantic and southeast city and look right around their suburbs and you'll see acres of these types of places with gorgeous fountains/water features, kid play areas, high end stores, themed restaurants and high end restaurants, entertainment, etc)...it might be new for Disney, but not for most Americans in the midwest/on the east coast...

Now, they are popular right now, so that should help Disney...as will EPCOT's current state, b/c as someone posted before, I think people will start to skip EPCOT entirely and do their food touring here when there are no festivals...

He's 17...so new horizons will come.

I've never been to Ohio. Most of my vacation is done in Florida. Otherwise I'll make it to Illinois and Minnesota once in a while.

This is Disney Springs from my perspective:

I'm from a prairie city in western Canada with a Pop. of about 250,000.

There are no malls that look like this here. Most of the shops and alot of the brands I see in the video's posted aren't available here. Food, alchohol, and clothes are waaay more expensive here than what most of you are used to. When I pay $15 for a six pack of Bud Light at a WDW resort that's just a regular price for me. I actually find it very fair for an on resort price. Most of you are appalled by that price.

I don't get out much....lol.
We stay onsite at WDW and don't rent a car.
It's fun for us to do a little shopping on vacation and it's all about convenience. For the reasons stated above the prices in these shops will probably be considered fair to us. We don't care if some of the stuff is half the price a few miles up the road, we don't want to rent a car to go there. As far as the actually shopping goes it's more about buying stuff we can't get where were from, not about getting a fantastic deal.

As far as the look? I think it looks great in the videos. Big improvement over DTD. When completely finished it is now a place we will want to spend a couple days of our trip at rather than 1/2 day like the last couple trips.

I have no idea what % of WDW vacationers fall into the same category, but I wanted to offer a different perspective.

The only outside mall we have looks like an inside mall with no roof. This looks very nice and am looking forward to doing some shopping there. The stores are also unique since a lot of them are not in any of our malls here.

If you don't mind me asking...what area are you located in?

Btw - I like this discussion...nice to get some regional perspectives on things WDW. This is what they spend a large amount of their research on.

You might be surprised at how many of these outdoor malls with high quality dining and theming already exist. I don't know about story but really this addition is nothing unique.

Let's start a "consulting firm" that develops back-stories for all the mega malls around the country like Disney Springs. We're sure to be rich...

"Gurgling Acres wasn't always the sprawling, metro-complex that it is today. Before we paved paradise and put up a parking lot, this 200 acre destination was once a landfill. But never fret... Gurlging Springs - the centerpiece of Gurgling Acres - is 99.5% purified, and we're confident that the ammonia-like smell coming from the waterfall feature @ the entrance of Gurgling Acres is nothing to be concerned about."

Yeah - We'll be living in Golden Oaks before you know it... ;)

Love it...now if you just put in a RCRA/brownfields reference - it's ready to go.

It looks very nice, but I don't get the hype. I'm also not someone who shops at Outlet-type malls either. I'm more interested in the dining and entertainment options. Was hoping for more of that and less shopping.

The dining should round into form nicely.

In short order, there will be no entertainment at downtown except for amc and splitsville. They are going to shutdown disneyquest for retail at the first possible moment. And i can't see cirque lasting forever.

I'm interested to see what comes of The Edison, Walts, and The Neverland Tunnels. There could be some entertainment there.

from the videos, it looks pretty cool. i too don't do much shopping for stuff i can get at home (i live in toronto) but will pick up stuff that is unique (but not necessarily "disney"). i would look forward to checking it out since when we were there it was very much under construction so there was no real cohesive feel to it. i would love if cirque developed a new show for disney springs... can't get enough cirque!!

Is there a closing date for DQ? We're planning to use our WP+M tickets there during our June trip!
