Disney Gift Card Deals

I am in Michigan, and last week I used a $100 Sears physical card at my local Kmart to buy a $100 eBay card. The cashier thought it was a great idea :) With the current $100 Sears card for $85 with free shipping, plus the 3% Ebates promo, I decided to buy two more $100 cards.

We rarely shop at Kmart but do buy tools and appliances at Sears on occasion, so if I get stuck with them they can be used for something eventually...

I am officially fed up with PPDG:badpc:. At first, I was OK with the whole "security check" thing, but now...:crazy2:. I cannot get an order for a $50 BB gift card to go through. I am NOT trying to pay with a gift card. I am trying to use my PayPal account. I e-mailed customer service, as directed during the checkout process, and PayPal said I need to "contact the seller to see if they will accept a different form of payment". Are they THAT ignorant? I specifically stated that I am trying to buy an item SOLD by PayPal....so I *am* contacting the seller....and they are telling me to contact the seller:confused3. I was trying to avoid having to call, but I guess I have no choice. Urgh! I think my churning days are done. At least I have $200 in eBucks that I can spend on whatever I want in July. Maybe I will buy some camping gear:beach:.
When the security check comes up, I'm done with PPDG for a while (month or longer).

It's not really the security check that is giving me fits. When I go to checkout, I'm given two options to pay, PayPal or PayPal Credit. I click on the PayPal and log in and then it says "This is not a valid payment option. Please contact PayPal customer service". There is only one way to pay for a PPDG and that is with a PayPal account...but it tells me that using my PayPal account is not a valid payment method. So I contact PayPal and they tell me to contact the seller...PayPal!

Now, I am in an even bigger mess. I have my PayPal account set up so that every time I log on, I get a security code texted to my phone that I need to enter within 5 minutes in order to complete the log in process. I've been trying for the past hour and for some reason, I am not receiving any texts from PayPal. I tried calling them and sat on the line with someone who told me that I need to reset my password. Well I did that but I still can't get past the security key code requests because there are no texts coming to my phone. I sent a test text to my phone from my daughter's phone and it came through in seconds so I know the issue is not with my phone. The PayPal lady kept telling me to reset my password and I kept trying to explain to her that the security key needs to be deactivated to that I can get into my account!! Ugh....this is so ridiculous! Finally, she said that she is going to reset my account (whatever that means) and I should try again in 15 minutes. Everything should be OK then (yeah, right:rolleyes:) and I can call back if I need further assistance.

UPDATE: I tried again to log in and the security key is still active. I had it send the text and it went through. Against my better judgement, I deactivated the security key because I don't want to deal with this crap again. I can always reactivate it at a later time.

...and I still cannot use PayPal to buy anything from PPDG. Is it possible that I have a limit of some sort that I may have reached? Once I bought $1K in Best Buy, I haven't been able to get any orders from PPDG accepted.

There was also a 5x on 5/17.

Is shortcode texting blocked on your cell? For the longest time, I was never receiving any texts from PayPal either. I found out it was because shortcode texting was blocked on my cell phone line (PayPal's texts come from a 6-digit phone number). After contacting my cell phone carrier and having the block removed, I now receive all texts from PayPal.

No...because earlier today, I didn't receive the text so I hit "resend"...and again...and again. Finally, I turned my phone off and let it sit. When I turned it back on, there were four texts from eBay sitting on it. The 5 minutes had expired so I tried again...no luck. It was really random because I've never had a problem with it for the past 2 years. I guess I am just not supposed to buy anything else from eBay.

I'm sitting with $150 in eBay gift cards right now. I hadn't really allotted them to anything at this point, so I think I am going to try a Hyatt gift card. I already have a $100 one (from PPDG) and I had planned to combine that with my $100 in AMEX rewards and use it to pay for our arrival night at MCO. Now that I am sitting here with $150 in eBay gift cards that I have no other use for, I might as well try a Hyatt card and just apply the AMEX credit to our room charges at WDW.

UPDATE: Ok, I think I am narrowing it down a bit. I tried to purchase a $100 Hyatt gift card from GCM (physical gift card) and the PayPal option worked just fine so the issue is not with PayPal...it is definitely with PPDG. Now that I know this, I can focus on resolving it with them, or at a minimum, try and figure out what limit or alarm I set off in the first place. Like I said, I placed a total of (4) orders with them...$25, $450, $500 and $25. When I placed the final $25 order, I had tried $150 and got "denied". When I tried $25 (which would put me at the $1000 mark), I was successful. So I am wondering if I have a soft limit of $1000??...that is what makes the most sense to me. The orders were placed over a span of 18 days (5/17, 5/19, 5/23 and 5/31) so I wonder if they were too close together. My only previous purchase from PPDG was back in April.

For those of you that do the Sears/KMart.... do you buy Target cards there or Disney? Can you just swipe the physical gc as payment instead of handing to cashier???

At any I have gone, you could not swipe yourself. The clerk had to do it. I bought Gamestop mostly because they had $50 denominations where the eBay were only $25's. I've yet for any problems with physical cards at any GS near me and since they have the loadable cards I was able to just convert there to one $300 eBay card vs 12 $25 ones.

I honestly didn't pay attention or notice if they sold Target cards but that would be an interesting endgame for someone provided they don't have any problems converting considering how often SVM has the cards 15% off.

Why would sears/kmart sell Target gift cards? That's a direct competitor, not something they would be interesting in selling.

Have any of you ever had a problem getting your gift cards from Target? I have ordered almost $2300 worth from Target (multiple orders) and have received a small portion of them so far, well today I received a package that was supposed to have 4 of the $50 Disney gift cards I ordered but instead I received a pack of hair clips and a packing list saying my gift cards were in that envelope. :/

Target gift cards are not sold at Kmart/Sears.

I agree. I think it's highly unlikely. But I buy a decent share of my groceries at Target with gift cards purchased from Kroger.

You would think but Sears sells Target GC's on their website. You cannot pay with a Sears GC though.

I currently live in Arizona, and the Kmart nearest me is cash only for gift cards :sad2: but next month I will be on Long Island, NY and driving through CT and MA on my way to ME. Does anyone know any Kmarts in New England or Long Island that allow third party gift cards to be purchased with Sears cards? Thanks in advance.

I'm perplexed by the 'cash only' rules for GC's at some of these stores. I don't know about anyone else but I never have enough cash on me to buy a GC. I use credit for just about everything and I pay for a handful of things with a check. Cash items for me is like when the kids next door set up their lemonade stand. Seems like these stores limiting GC sales to cash only are not going to be selling very many GC's.

I believe it is due to the high amount of fraud with gift cards. Someone steals a credit card and goes on a gift card shopping spree. They can then turn around and sell the gift cards and walk away with cash or use the gift cards to buy other things. The fraud on gift cards must be on the rise, because I am seeing more and more dealers limiting the amount of gift cards that can be purchased with CC or cash only.

Does anyone remember back in the day when all gift cards / gift certificates were cash only? I thought it was so great when I could pay with a credit card.
