Mom & Son - The Bonus Trip! May 24th - 31st Update 8/7 - Y&Y and now complete!

After taking a first time trip to Tom Sawyer Island

We were ready for a snack. I have wanted to try the "Mickey Pants" sundae for the past several trips .... Finally got one this trip!

Very pensively contemplating our snack ...

And when we were done!

This was really good! I got all 3 toppings - chocolate, peanut butter and caramel. It was a nice afternoon snack to share. I look forward to having this again!

For dinner we went to The Wave ... I love the candles on the tables there ....

Very sorry for this blurry pic of the appetizers

Of course, more iced tea

And the bread with salted butter

Ok, here is my first (and maybe only?!) fail ... I did not take pics of our appetizers! We shared the Bacon & Egg and the cheese & charcuterie plate

These pictures are from the Disney Food Blog ...

This was AH-MAY-ZING! The egg melted into the polenta and that complemented the salty pork belly perfectly. This was very close to the perfect plate of food

This was a really nice platter with a good mix of cheeses and accompaniments. We enjoyed this as well.

Ok, back to my pictures ... Andrew had the lamb shank

He enjoyed this and picked as much meat off as possible. I don't eat lamb so I didn't try it but he said it was very tender and flavorful

I had the pork

I LOVED this dish! The pork was very tender. The spaetzle had a really good flavor from the herbs. The bacon swiss chard was nice and salty. The slight sweetness from the compote balanced the dish perfectly. If this is still on the menu when DH and I come back to WDW in October, I will be coming back to The Wave and ordering it again!

DS loves pressed pot coffee so he couldn't resist

I had the vanilla rooibos tea

And we shared the American Flavors dessert trio

This was a nice end to a great meal. Just enough to get that nice bite of sweetness!

This was a last minute change for us and I am go glad to ended up here. Everything was tip top!

Love that you are getting another Mother/Son trip! Looking forward to following along, congrats on the weight loss :goodvibes

Thank you! Happy to say I lost .8 at the WW meeting a week after the trip! I think I gained about a pound on the trip but managed to lose that plus before the next weight in!

have a fantastic trip - looking forward to your report :)

How exciting, I can't wait to read all about it!!!!

Thank you!!

Well hello!! Congrats on your weight loss! I lost about 20 on weight watchers but gained some back... so I need to get back into the program considering I am still paying! Enjoy your trip!!!

Great job! It is so much easier to add those pounds than get them off!

Yay for mother/son trips! Congratulations on the weight loss!

Looking forward to reading more :-)

Thank you!

Today is May 27 so you are on your trip. I am looking forward to reading your reviews when you return.

Following- I always enjoy your reports!

Thank you for coming along!

Can't wait to read your trip report I am going to Disney with my DS20 who is in College he was 15 the last time we went together. One of the resturants he wants to try is the Wave. DH and I went to the Wave last September it was one of the best meals we had. I also am a WW what a great job you did when you were at Disney, hope I can stay on plan when I am in Disney.

Hi! Enjoy your time with your DS! I did not stay on plan while there at all! I told myself I was going to limit treats and that DS and I would share meals. But you will see that I really didn't. We walked a ton! We often take cabs from the Boardwalk back to POP after a day in EPCOT. This trip I walked over instead of taking the boat. We were on the 4th floor and climbed the stairs instead of taking the elevator. I think that was the difference for me. I definitely gained the week we were in WDW. But we came back late on Tuesday and my next WW meeting wasn't until the following Tuesday so I focused when I got home and ended up losing. I say - ENJOY your time with your son without worry. Time with our kids moves way too fast!

Thursday, May 26th we headed to EPCOT for breakfast at Garden Grill

I am sorry to say that this was a bit of a disappointment for us. Our main reason for going was the Stickey Bun Bake

Not sure if ours was overcooked but it was very, very dry. None of that gooey cinnamon roll center that we were hoping for. And we normally love the breakfast juice served in most restaurants, papaya, orange & guava, I believe. But this tasted extra sweet to us. We didn't even drink half of the glass between the two of us.

Of course I started with iced tea, DS had coffee and there was some fruit ...

The strawberry sums up what we thought of the fruit. I wasn't very good at all. Not the yummy sweet fruit we are used to in WDW

The breakfast food platter ...

And a waffle with the Nutella syrup

I enjoyed the waffle and actually thought the bacon was pretty good. The eggs were bland. the tots were fine, how can tots be bad? DS stated that it tasted very similar to his breakfasts at College. Not completely inedible but nothing to write home about.

So I am glad that this one is crossed off my WDW Bucket list. I can't see that we would go back for breakfast. I did enjoy dinner a few trips back so we may do that in the future.

After enjoying some of the amazing flowers ...

And our only picture with "Goofy" this trip

We had planned to check out Alberta Bound, but there were technical difficulties ...

We consoled ourselves by sharing the cider flight outside the UK

Also tried the corned beef because I can never pass up corned beef

Although not much to look at, I thought the corned beef and cabbage mixture was delicious. A bit salty but that is to be expected. All of the ciders were good but the beer had a very soapy taste. We tossed that one. I enjoyed the cherry cider the best.

Of course I had to try the La Vie en Rose frozen slush

This was tasty but for me not as good as either the Grand Marnier or the Grey Goose ones

We ultimately finished our Flower & Garden snacking at the Smokehouse with the slider and the burnt ends hash

I had most of the slider and DS most of the hash. Both were very good. We had hoped to get back to them again later in the trip but never quite made it.

No more snacking for us as we had a big dinner coming up!

Loved that the train town was also having their Flower and Garden

Did get to see Alberta Bound ...

before DS's only real request ... Le Cellier

We really didn't need menus here ... knew what we were having the day I made the ADR!

First up the bread basket with the awesome pretzel bread stick

We shared the amazing poutine ....

And DS had the cheddar cheese soup (not sure why the pics are so blurry! I am sorry!)

And of course we both had the mushroom filet ...

Now with my new WW lifestyle I had planned to eat something else, maybe a salad and just have the perfect bite of Andrew's filet. That went out the window when we got there. I loved every bite of this that I ate and still think it is my favor plate of food at WDW. I did end up full after about 2/3 of it and complained to DS that I was going to end up stuffing myself by finishing it. He stated that he would "take one for the team" and finish it off for me! I am proud to say that I actually let him!

No dessert for us as we had other plans after Illuminations

I made a late ADR at a new place for us ... Beaches and Cream

I didn't try one of the new adult milkshakes

And we knew that these would disappoint after our awesome Le Cellier poutine

I wasn't in the mood for ice cream so I ordered the tomato soup and grilled cheese

and onion rings

DS surprised me by ordering a coke float

We shared the food and thought it was fine. Nothing special but fine. To be fair, we were both very tired after a long, extremely hot day. I think we both would have enjoyed this more if it was lunch time or if we had stuck to ice cream. Unlike the Garden Grill breakfast, I will give B&C another try.

Love your reviews! I think you made up my mind about doing Garden Grill for lunch/ dinner instead of breakfast. :)

You look great, congratulations!! I love so many of the restaurants that you have been to. We haven't been to Kona for lunch/dinner but the fish tacos are looking good! I also love Le Cellier...poutine and yummy filet...so good!!

I'm late but I'm here!
Really enjoying your reviews so far! And all those pictures are making me want to go back so badly... (even the blurry ones! ;) )
Can't wait to read more!

The fish tacos at Kona looked great, actually everything there looked great! Sorry Garden Grill was a bust, it does seem dinner is the better choice there. Onion rings at Beaches and Cream..yum!!!

The egg melted into the polenta and that complemented the salty pork belly perfectly.

I'm drooling.

Happy to say I lost .8 at the WW meeting a week after the trip! I think I gained about a pound on the trip but managed to lose that plus before the next weight in!

To only have gained one pound while on vacation is a WIN. But to then lose that plus another .8...WOW! Way to go! :woohoo:

the slider and the burnt ends hash

Both of these snacks look SO DELICIOUS!

Loved that the train town was also having their Flower and Garden

These are the Disney details that make me :lovestruc

and onion rings

 My one true love

Great review of your Kona meal! I had to smile at your son's expression as he waited for his morning coffee! The Mickey and the Gang peppermints are cute! Good tip about chewing gum right after a meal so you are not tempted to eat more right away.
