Hurricane Matthew: How it's impacting resort stays

I thought I'd start a thread for folks to share information on what's going on at the resorts. If you have questions, post 'em here. If you're currently staying at a Disney resort, keep us posted on what's happening!

I just ran into a HUGE snag. I have my Disney resort only stay booked with Undercover Tourist... coming in Friday through Sunday.

Because of the hurricane we aren't making it in for the first night so I have been on hold for about 4 hours this morning with Disney

UPDATE:
I emailed and left a voicemail and they called me back within five minutes and had the reservation changed within ten! That was amazing! But they are located in the thick of things so if you need changes make them now - once the phones go down this might not be possible.

YAY UT!!!

DM and DD were supposed to leave early Sat AM for a week at POR. I managed to get their flights changed to Mon-Mon, but can't find anything on property for next Sat or Sun so for now they are booked at one of the Disney Springs hotels. It makes me feel bad for even worrying about their vacation at a time with people in Florida are worried for their lives! Praying for safety for all.

I just read that they moved everyone from the campgrounds to hotels at no additional charge.

Jimandami: did you call Disney direct to explain? They will likely help you get them back ON property.
Don't feel bad ... It's their vacation. Hope it works out!
Be safe everyone!!

How did they have enough available rooms to move everyone from FW into rooms? Maybe a lot of people cancelled due to the hurricane.

In any event, that must have been one big logistics nightmare.

Kudos to all of the WDW staff who are working hard to keep everyone safe.

I did call but all they had were a couple suites for over $1000/night. However, I kept checking periodically and miraculously found a room at All Star Music! Now just hope it's still standing and they can get there Monday.

FYI there's also a long thread on the Theme Park board about the hurricane and what's happening throughout WDW, including at the resorts. Such as what's expected to be open for how long. In case anyone wants to check it out.

We are here at the Poly and check out Saturday. Waiting in line now for some dinner at Capt. Cooks. Restaurants are serving modified menus for resort guests only. Kona Cafe and Ohana both had waits of over an hour and not sure what we'd even get up there. So we are waiting here. Trader Sam's is also open. We've been asked to stay on our rooms after 9 pm this evening until further notice. Not ideal but far from roughing it here. I feel extremely safe and fairly comfortable.

The strongest winds for here are currently predicted for 8am-11am Friday. Increasing steadily overnight. That's the latest prediction.

I'm at POR. We were supposed to check out tomorrow morning to switch hotels. Luckily, they're telling everyone to stay in their rooms on Friday until they tell us we can leave. Housekeeping delivered a flashlight to each room. They were selling boxed meals for $12.99 that included a huge sandwich, chips, and fruit - but the catch is that things were crazy. They started selling those at 4pm. By 4:20, they were out of the fruit and chips. We did enjoy our sandwiches though. (And already had fruit and chips in our room anyway). I don't like that our door opens to the outside. We will be stuck in our room.

This thread shows a picture of that $12.99 box lunch. Which doesn't include a drink unless you use a CS dining credit.

In the lobby of the Poly now. They have activities for the kids and character meet and greets. I've seen Captain Hook, Smee and Goofy. Pluto just arrived also. Kids are coloring fans and masks. Gift shops still open but I think will close at 9:00 when we are supposed to go hunker down. But overall I'm impressed with how things are being handled. I had the curried seafood stew with rice for dinner at Capt. Cooks. So again, I can't say we are roughing it at all yet.

Stay safe, and everyone else that is reading this post that is currently at WDW, be safe as well.

Some folks from Vero Beach were in hotels right outside Disney property.
