Super far out (considering 2017 hasn't happened yet!) but is anyone else planning on going to the anniversary year for the half/challenge? We had planned on going in 2017 but had to change our plans right before registration. Going for the challenge on an anniversary year sounds so much more fun though!

Important dates:

Race weekend: February 22-25, 2018

Regular registration: May 2nd
AP/DVC registration: April 27th

Proof of time submission:

I'm hoping to run the 2018 half as my first half ever! Pretty excited...recent decision, but once I decide to do something, I really can't let it go. Husband is trying to decide it he'll run it with me, or just cheer on.

Since we're forgoing Disney in 2017, we will be returning in 2018 for the 10th anniversary weekend. I'll be running all three races, with my mom & sister joining me for the 5K. Not sure if my husband is planning on running any of the races with me, but he has time to decide. :)

I was pondering doing this as my first half but now with registration being earlier IDK maybe I'll just try for the 10k and maybe the 5k as well and aim for the half in 19

My friend and I did our first Princess this year, ran the 10k. We can't make 2017 so are hoping to make it back in 2018 doing the GSC this time, yikes! Glad I have over a year to train, would be my first half.

We're looking to do the GSC in 2018 too! A little scary but there's definitely time to get ready

First half - woohoo! It'll be ours too!

It looks like they've pushed up the registration date by a full 2 months! I guess it's time to start saving pennies for all the preordering I'll be doing :scared1:

I am planning on Princess and Tink for 2018 to get my pink coast to coast medal. Whether I do the challenges or not is still up in the air.

My DW really wants to do the Princess half in 2018. She wants to get our 2 daughters (and maybe SIL and BF) to run too, but it may be hard for them to arrange it with their schedules and limited vacation time. I will probably run it too, even though I know that guys (especially older ones like me) are a distinct minority in this race.

So happy to see a thread started already! I was supposed to run W&D earlier this month but a family crisis got in the way. All is good now & I've decided to set my sights on Princess 2018...maybe the GSC.

Personally it's so fun to see pictures of guys from the PHM, especially when they go all out with costumes!

I am not at all impatient/overly excited thinking about the races! I'm sorry to hear about your family crisis :( I hope everything is going well now!

I'm definitely looking at the GSC - gotta get all those medals!

I'm excited to be planning for the 2018 PHM to be my first runDisney race!

Debating the GSC, so I have a question for more experienced runDisneyers -- I plan to be on my computer at exactly noon on May 2. I might even have an AP by then, through my work. That would get me the opportunity to register earlier, right? Either way, would I have a better chance to get in registering for the GSC? Or PHM only?

I can't speak from prior registration experience, but by being an AP holder or DVC you're able to register one week (I've heard of two in the past) in advance (it was one week early last year). Also, it's highly recommended you're at the link early, some say 15 minutes, refreshing as sometimes they'll open registration a little early. I believe DVC/AP registration is around 10% of the total bib number so even if you don't get in with early reg you'll have another chance as an AP holder! It'll show what's available at the link when registration opens and -correct me if I'm wrong runDis-ers- the challenges may sell out prior to the half. So if you want that challenge then go for that first!

I normally run the marathon weekend races. However in 2018, it will be very likely I will doing my first Princess Weekend. My wife will probably do the 10k and I'd like to do the GSC. Being a guy, it makes merchandise checkout rather quickly!

What do you guys think of them bumping up the registration dates? I'm a little torn. On the one hand, it's nice having a longer gap between registration and booking our stay, but on the other hand it sucks to have to register that far out, especially since they took away the option to defer registration. I don't know if they're trying to weed out the weak-hearted folks or what, but this seems like a drastic change in planning, especially for first-timers who aren't sure if they'll be able to commit that far out. And with as hefty of a pricetag as they races call for, that's a lot of money to put forward that far in advance of race day.

During the few past Marathon Weekends, I remember registration being in April, which, 9 months out, is still far out. But I couldn't believe that next year's marathon registration is a mere 1 month after the event! My family and I talked about a February 2018 trip over the last year so naturally princess weekend has been one I've kept an eye on. But A May registration that is usually during July is a big jump!

To be honest I'm not sure why registration dates are now so far out. Unless they've added another Price Increase Tier. If that be the case, it would seem a little underhand for Disney. However if it means less congestion during registration and longer time frames to register for all races, I'm all for it. For us we more or less know when we'll be going to Disney!

Thanks so much! I had gathered much of that in my research, but I really appreciate the confirmation. Especially about the challenges possibly selling out before the half. I'd be okay with either, although I'd love to push myself for the GSC!

And no worries, I'll definitely be refreshing well before noon. I perversely enjoy that type of challenge -- I'm the one who never books Early Bird on Southwest and still ends up with A boarding passes most of the time because I'm ready! :yay:

I'm also torn on it - yay we get to register even sooner but also what if XYZ happens between now and what would have been the registration in July. Two months is a BIG difference. It also shorts a lot of people who may have been saving for registration as, again, two months can mean making the registration amount or not. I think it's kind of smarmy that they took away the option to defer. Even if you only allow one year to defer that's a huge piece of mind. Especially for first-timers as you mention!

I am definitely that kind of person as well! And it's always so satisfying to get A with Southwest without spending that crazy fee for early bird!
