Sister Wives

Since she's the one who hired the lawyer he technically worked for her so we can hope he protected her interests a little better than that. She mentions having thought about leaving around that time and she doesn't strike me as stupid. Of course, that's *if* Kody actually has any assets at all. It's pretty shocking the people in that age bracket who don't.

Oh, I have no idea.

I wasn't aware she hired the lawyer, so maybe she did have adequate representation, in which case she should have gotten something. . .As far as assets, I don't know how much Kody could possibly have, what with having four wives and 18 kids. OTOH, does he pay anything as far as supporting these multiple families or is it every mom for herself. I could easily believe that his only contribution is sperm. I would hope that whatever they get paid for the show is paid to each person individually but I have no idea how that works.

Does Kody even have an outside job any more? I haven't heard anyone mention the "job" word in a long time on that show.

And I would love to know who even owns the houses. At the time, he was married to Meri, so maybe he's on the title of that one? I can't see him being on the title of the others though.

Before the show him and Janelle supported the family. Meri did work but the sole breadwinners were Janelle and Kody. Meri got fired shortly after the show started filming or went on the air. I think Janelle still works. She says her career is a big part of who she is and keeps her going.

Clearly, you do not like Kody, lol. You know Meri is the one who started the whole 'lifestyle' ball rolling right? These women seem to have gone into the whole thing with their eyes fairly open. It's not like he lured them in.

Woman in plural marriage are essentially single women because they're not legally married. I'm sure they could all go after him for child support though. He has no advantage as far as funds except for the person he is currently legally married to. My understanding is that Janelle is in charge of finances and I'm sure she at least covers her own butt. I thought they all still worked, maybe they don't.

I don't like Kody at all, not because he's a polygamist or because i think he somehow tricked them into this marriage. I dislike him because he's an immature narcissistic jerk who thinks the entire world revolves around himself. He's more concerned with is hair than he is any of his wives.

Meh, I think he's self absorbed and immature for sure. Like that guy you know who *thought* he was cool in high school but really wasn't. I think he tends to see them all as a whole rather than individual people but as far their relationships go they all have their own brand of not contributing. Meri's checked out, Janelle is "whatever," Christine is extremely needy and Robyn seems like the only one invested in trying to have an actual relationship but she seems to want to referee his other relationships which isn't good. In most typical LDS families whether traditional or an offshoot the man is the head of the family so the blame gets laid at his feet when it starts to crash and burn. If it's crashing and burning, they all have a part IMO. That's my take anyway.

Sometimes I wonder if people who post here actually watch the show. LOL.

When they still lived in Lehi Meri worked in a group home for teens pt but got fired when the show aired.
Kody was in advertising. Maybe selling billboard space?
Janelle worked for the state of Utah.
When Robyn and Kody started to court at the beginning of the show she did work as a single mom but quit to move up to be with Kody. It was never stated where she worked and as she has no higher education it probably wasn't something that earned much.
Kody and Janelle quit their jobs to move to LV.
Janelle, Christine (and maybe Kody?) all got their realtor's licenses in Los Vegas. They were also hawking some weight loss supplement after moving (LIV).

You know, one thing I always wondered about was how Janelle worked for the state (I don't know what her actual position or department was but I do remember she worked for the government somehow) knowing she was doing something illegal and then they decide to come out on national television. I felt bad for Meri when she got fired for being a polygamist but I always wondered why Janelle wasn't fired as well. I didn't think state governments made a habit out of employing people who routinely break the law. Of course, an argument could be made for religious freedom and whether polygamy should be illegal or not but at the end of the day she was breaking the law while working for the government.

But are they breaking the law? He is only legally married to one woman. No one is a minor, no one was raped, no one was forced. To my knowledge none of the other women get public assistance, which I've heard is why a lot of polygamists get tied up legally. Unless they file false tax returns or something along those lines? If one wife is covering all of the kids on her health insurance, that is probably illegal?? I don't get exactly what was illegal with them.

Polygamy may not be what I want to do with my life but if they aren't hurting anyone or stealing money from the government what's the big deal.

I don't remember a weight loss supplement but I do remember them being all hyped up to open a branch of the gym they were all going to. I was just always under the impression that Kody and Janelle at least continued in whatever field the were in when they came here. And not picking on you but it's Las Vegas. (sorry, pet peeve)

eta: Didn't he get that car from his job? That would've been here in Vegas.

Well they don't have a marriage license, they just call themselves married. I don't know the technicalities of the law but is living with a man while calling yourself married to him illegal?

Evidently that depends on the state. In Utah apparently cohabitating as a plural family is illegal. Don't you remember the big brouhaha after the first season when the kids were coming home crying saying their friends at school asked if their dad was going to jail and all that? The state was investigating the family and that is what precipitated the move to Nevada. I don't remember all the details but I seem to recall the investigators in Utah never prosecuted stating that when they get cases like that they don't prosecute unless there is any abuse going on and there wasn't in the Browns' case so while they weren't prosecuted they did break the law. I think they even sued the state over the law and I honestly don't remember what happened with all of that.

Oh yeah, duh, they ran. *smacks forehead* They kept it pretty well hidden before the show though. I don't think much time lapsed between them going public and them leaving did it? Two seasons is one year. We see fall/winter in the summer and spring/summer in the winter.

I don't know. I mean it was the first season of the show itself that had them coming out to the world at large right? I think it was during the honeymoon special that Meri was fired because she told Kody about it over the phone. I'm trying to remember back if the first season showed them doing much of anything other than being at home. I know they did the wedding planning and Truly being born and all that. I'm just trying to figure out how they explained all the cameras following them around. I remember a scene outside Janelle's office where they filmed her talking to one of the kids over the phone but I think that's it as far as showing where they work.

I think it was the very first or maybe second episode of season 2 where they were talking about the fall out of coming out and the family being investigated but maybe it was a touch later than that.

Janelle works as a real estate agent. http://www.tmirealty.net/agents.php According to the website so is Christine. As for the rest of them, I don't know what they do.

Anyone watch the 2 hour dating game on Sunday?! AUGH that took forever. But at least they all figured out that Tony and Mykleti really do know each other...then again if you are 20 and dating and can't have sex, you must talk alot. :)

He didn't know she didn't like pizza. FAIL! :rotfl2:

I would like to know what Meri does all day. Since moving to Utah she did so some work with the Sister Wives' closet website and started taking a few college courses but pulled out.
Not sure what else she is doing. She didn't go into the real estate business at all.

I tried to look at their mysterwive's closet web but but my virus protection says the website isn't safe.

Too Much Information Realty? I guess that's sort of fitting...
