im sure there will be some who think I am being snotty, snobby or both but really I am not.

My brother has decided to take mom to Disneyworld in August - he still has a child in school so he has to go during her break. He is thinking that a value would be better for him cost wise since he will need 2 rooms.

I told him I would split the cost with him paying my portion and half of moms if he wanted to rent points and get a villa or mom could just stay with me in a studio on rented points.

He also thinks free dining will be offered August. 5-11 but I told him probably not that early in August.

I have stayed at BW, AKL, CB and POFQ. My favorite mod is POFQ and there will be no discount for it- but I would stay there and any rack rate but the Dvc resort room is roughly the same price.

I have read lots of posts on the values- smaller rooms, smaller beds, smaller vanity etc. I do enjoy a larger space and love room service but can you convince me to stay in a value resort and if so which one? I don't love a long walk to transportation from the room.

I have heard good things about Pop's food court !

Oh yeah and my SIL says they Don't spend much time in their room so they won't mind it. (They have not stayed in a value before either).

Please Tell me the positives- thanks

We are staying 7 days (they don't want a split stay but I would split a value and then deluxe

Do you just want positives? If so I am no help. I stayed at POP once as we were paying for 4 rooms for family for a week, and it was all DH and I could afford, and all I can say is never again! I really disliked the chaotic food court and lines for park buses. The rooms were, at least to me, noticeably smaller, and felt cramped with just DH and I, when compared to what we are used to. I also really missed being able to sit in a lounge or restaurant bar and have a nice glass of wine or appetizer. We have split a 1bedroom at Kidani with my family, and that was much better, and we have also stayed deluxe while our friends staying at a value and just meeting at the parks, and that was, for me, significantly better than staying at POP. There was nothing horrible at POP it just is not how I prefer to vacation and I did not enjoy it.

why don't just stay in different places? both of you will be happy and can get together when you want to, disney transportation works good and is reliable you can meet every day, you already set your mind and it's OK there is nothing we can tell to change either you or your brother mind... don't sweat the small stuff do paid for yourself and let your brother take care of your mother he probably doesn't want you helping on that... I see it as and advantage you will have access to both hotels pools and amenities

lol....we will NOT stay at a moderate.

We will be at AKL this Thursday. Booked very late and was only able to get 3 of 4 nights. 4th night originally scheduled at coronado springs. The wife and I talked, and we decided we are spoiled rotten and wont even do moderates anymore.

So we split the difference and booked a 1 night at the dolphin. This works well since the last night we will be at EPCOT till close. So much better to walk back to the dolphin then having to ride a bus to CSR.

Yeah I don't think I would book value if I were you. It will likely be quite disappointing.

Why do you need to stay at the same resort? We often go with other family members,
and almost always stay at different resorts. We set up meeting times in the morning,
book meals together and have awesome trips.

I had mentioned a Disney trip to some family. They were going to go around the same time so I just thought "Oh that'll be cool. We can meet up, etc." Now they are saying we should all use the same agent and stay at the same place. Oh hold up. I have plans to book an agency exclusive to stay at a deluxe and I doubt they want to do that because they've mentioned FD. I started to panic because I don't want to stay value but I made the decision to just book what I want and give them the info. I don't see the need for all that togetherness. I've even contemplated going to Universal and saving Disney for another time so I don't offend anyone.

I think you should stay off property at a hotel nearby. You can get really nice hotels for Disney Value hotel prices. You aren't as close to the parks and you're not in the "Disney bubble" but it's totally doable. That's what my family did when I was growing up, we never stayed on property and never missed out. I personally hate the values, did it once and never again. If I had to picked I'd go with off property

lol sometimes I don't even mention we're going anywhere because I don't want to share my vacation

1,000% agree. They are Motel 6 with disney crap thrown everywhere.
Haha. I completely agree. We've stayed at all of the values on property. Early on it was out of necessity (newlyweds with one still in grad school so very little cash for upgrades) and lately it was because our daughter REALLY wanted to stay in a couple. However, I don't like them and feel like there is a huge jump from value to moderate simply due to the things I value in a resort. Now, I'm going to say something that will likely cause controversy and many will not like. Everyone has been warned. Ready? While I do get the Motel 6 vibe from the values, I also get it when I'm at Port Orleans French Quarter. It reminds me of a Motel 6 that had the Mardi Gras section of Dollar General thrown all over it.

The positives for me is that I'm still at Disney with my family, staying on Disney property, getting free transportation, and still getting great customer service. Everyone seems to love Art of Animation but it is basically staying value for a moderate price in my opinion. I would stay POP is you do end up going and staying at a value. If you know you really will hate staying at a value you probably shouldn't. What exactly is the travel party make up for the trip?

Totally disagree with you who think the Values are Motel 6s. Have any of you ever stayed at a Motel 6? They are not even close.

It is fine if the values are not your thing. They aren't for everyone. And going by the OP's post I doubt they are for her. But they are much nicer than a Motel 6.

I'd have to agree with you. Much cleaner and brighter and happier than a Motel 6. Everyone Motel 6 I've stayed at has been dirty and in a shady part of town. I usually smell people smoking funny things when I walk down the hall. Nothing like Disney. The room sizes are similar I guess, but much different in all other ways.

I've only stayed at the Polynesian and this September, I will be at Caribbean Beach. I did consider staying at AllStar Sports, Pop, and AOA, but CBR was a better deal for me.

We stayed at a value resort (AS-Movies) for the first time last August. We were just going to be in Orlando for a couple days before a cruise and weren't going to be going to the parks. DD had been begging to stay at a value because she liked all the decoration. Since we were going to have a rental car and it was only for 2 nights, I acquiesced. Previously, we've stayed at all the moderates, and WL and the Poly at the deluxe level. We've also stayed off-site, once in a 2br condo and another time in a rented 4br house.

I tried to go in with an open mind, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be, but we won't be staying at a value again. I definitely missed the better linens. The bed wasn't as comfortable. The food courts seemed more chaotic than the food courts at the moderates. There was an ironing board laying on the grass near our room. It was bent up and looked like someone had tossed it from an upper floor. It was there for a full day before someone finally removed it. Overall, the resort had a cheaper feel than the others we've stayed at. I was most surprised at my DD's reaction. I thought she wouldn't notice the differences between the moderates we've stayed at and the value, but she did and she declared she doesn't want to stay at a value again.

OP, I wish I could give you the positives of staying at a value, but other than a lower price, I can't come up with one. Personally, I'd rather stay off-site than stay at a value resort again.

No judgment from me....I have no interest in staying at a value either. Unless you get a discount, I think they can be expensive for what you get. I would rather spend more and stay at a mod or stay offsite. I have heard nightmares from people complaining about the noise levels, thin walls, and chaotic food court. If I couldnt do a mod or deluxe I would stay offsite.
