Nothing- the last two weeks are for testing but the seniors don't have any Regents exams so they are done as of today.

Oh yeah, I forgot you have those. I'm amazed they're still around. My grandmother, born in 1905, talked about taking them. She grew up on Staten island.

Family orientation yesterday at the college. Student orientation continues today and he registers for classes. He's officially a college student now. It feels so weird!

We have orientation and registration next Tues and Wed.
DS's school starts early - he moves in August 16th. Only a bit more than two months away...
The summer is flying by!

My son's advisor called yesterday. He had scheduled a time for the phone call last month. He is now registered for all his courses for Fall. He was so nervous for the phone call, but it went really well. Orientation for him (us) is July 6-7. I have a feeling that summer is going to go by much too quickly!

That's how it worked for my older two. Freshmen/transfers arrived earlier than returning students, and they had orientation then. There wasn't a parent component to it either. So, this is all new to us. Parents have to pay ($100 for the first parent/$50 for the second), and they do not get overnight accommodations. The students do stay in a dorm room overnight. There were a couple of options of orientation dates, and it seems that different programs have different dates to choose from, so my son's friend who is also going to the same school didn't have the option of orientation when my son did.

One of my closest friends is in charge of prospective students at a State University. When it comes to the orientations she says the most difficult thing is to separate the parents from the students. When my DS did Freshman orientation, the separation took place in the parking garage, as soon as one parked, the students went one way (to select classes, meet with advisers and attend student orientation) while the parents were ushered off in a different direction to attend parent orientation. Every year without fail, there is that one parent, we all know that one parent, the one who insists they must accompany their snowflake to the student orientation because their college student can't possibly manage their college career.

One thing that surprised me was how many universities now require attendance to a 2-3 day summer orientation. This requires additional travel etc. I do not understand why it is not tacked onto the beginning of the school year, it seems to be an unreasonable burden to me considering students are supposed to be "starving" students.

My daughter just texted me that she took her FINAL final a few minutes ago and she is officially done. Graduation is this Thursday, but she has elected to skip it. Registration for college classes is Friday, and then she's off to Disney to celebrate her graduation next Tuesday. Can't believe it's finally over!

My daughter is on her way back from her orientation. She'll have a 8am class everyday unless she can swap it in july.

Multi variable calculus that early in the morning sounds horrible (well any time of day it sounds horrible to me!!). She LOVES math though and is happy she even got a seat in one of the classes.

The good side is she's done early in the day and only has 1 class on Fridays. She could easily hop a train and be home for lunch if she wanted.

Yep, I said goodbye to him in the parking garage in the morning and met back up at dinner. The school was pretty good about separating them from nosy parents.

Wow we say goodbye at breakfast and then don't see each other again until 4pm the next day LOL- and actually since we are going for early arrival we leave her at 3pm on Wednesday July 5th and don't get back together until 4pm Friday July 7th! We eat in separate dining buildings- parents go off on a trolley tour of Boston the first evening and the kids are in their own area for "games".

That sounds great. I have to say I had no problem driving home last night and leaving him at the dorms. I was seriously done with orientation about a couple of hours before it actually ended. It felt very long to me.

I was going to stay at a hotel but parents have to be there at 7am both days so we would have to have been up at dawn to make it to the college by 7am both days!

My daughter's school doesn't have a parents orientation and I personally don't have a need for one.

Dh went with her on the train to dc to give her another opportunity to get her bearings. They stayed in a hotel overnight and then dd walked over to her school while dh played tourist for 2 days.

For students out of the country or otherwise far away, the school offers 2 orientation sessions the week before school starts. Students move into their dorm rooms early. They just need to do a virtual session with an academic advisor and register for classes by the end of June.

After my daughters Grad party. next step is dorm shopping.
Only thing we have so far is a microwave

Well, today is the last day of school. I dropped my daughter off with the last school lunch I'll ever pack for her. Yes, I've packed her lunch every day since preschool - that's what happens when you only have 1 child.

Tonight is senior awards. She'll get recognized for academic achievement and may win a scholarship but that'll be a bonus if it happens.

I packed lunches every day for 4 (my husband and 3 kids), then 3, then 2. Now I'm down to 1. I hope that doesn't end any time soon!

I wish my daughter would get her dorm assignment so we could figure out what she needs- it won't be a microwave for sure because those are not allowed.
