Chicago Cubs fans - Rebuilding Year 2023

Happy Father's Day, Cubs dads! This Win is for you!

It seems as if they are finally starting to grasp the just-hit-the-ball-and-get-on-base concept! Hoping for a sweep against the Padres next week. We owe them that much...:rolleyes1

Thank you.

Here is a link to a very insightful interview with Tom Ricketts today at DadFest at our church this morning. It was a great interview. About 17 minutes long.

I just saw the news story on the largest game of catch at Willow Creek! Told my DH you mentioned Ricketts speaking there. Very cool Dan. Great interview, thanks for sharing! Looked like a lot of fun on the News and congrats on setting a record!:thumbsup2

This hits so close to home I have goosebumps~ remove current technology and you have an inside window to my Dad's world for a few of his years. At -6:20. ~my Dad preached that from dawn to dusk. I really wish this had been ready to include in the World Series DVD set. So next time you walk into beautiful Wrigley, turn on your TV or Pat and Ron...go to a AA or AAA game~ remember this video. When I get asked about my outlook on this team, why don't I get mad etc., it's because I always look at the whole player, scenario, the whole time.

Amazing video! I don't see a timestamp on the video, was your dad a scout?

yeah, for the Phillies for a few after he started the Oak Lawn Major's Semi Pro (and we were Champion's :thumbsup2) League but as he aged and life dealt us a few challenges had to move on . No, he isn't part of this video but it captured very accurately the "feel" of a scout, at least at our house.

well...so the Padre's are calling LOUDLY for Rizzo to be suspended for that home plate slide. I have re-watched about 30 times. Was it his best choice, nope, a swimming slide he may have even been safe, but he didn't go that route. As far as I can tell from the written legal description since the rules have changed, once the catcher has the ball contact is fair game~ but I understand S.D. frustration. I give it 3 pitches before Rizzo gets drilled hard in the ribs tomorrow. Rizzo not a dirty player, and that was one heck of a throw by Szczur. My guess is the usual $25k fine is a def possibility, and Padre's will go for 3 game suspension but given Rizzo's spotless history, I doubt it. Even Utley' s suspension was overturned. Player retaliation however, is gonna happen.

I have mixed emotions about this. I 100% agree with Maddon, if the catcher is blocking the plate, you have the right to hit him. They're trying to prevent the score (hence blocking) and you're trying to score, hence trying to knock the ball loose. That's baseball. What I don't agree with what Maddon said is trying to slide around will hurt you...I think the collision is more likely to hurt either or both players. As I said before, the catcher blocking the plate is somewhat of an unfair advantage for the defender...they have chest protector and shin guards..the runner has (potentially) a helmet. The part I'm slightly having a problem with is it seems as if Rizzo was aiming for the catcher and not the plate. Again, you're taught to try to jar the ball loose, so I do not think it was a deliberate attempt by Rizzo to hurt anyone, but a bit questionable. I don't think it's worthy of a suspension by ANY means. He didn't lower his shoulder and he didn't try to run THROUGH him and he didn't do a football type block with his hands or arms.

I LOVE watching Contreras play! So glad he had a great game.

also...Clayton pitched lie CRAP as a Cub, had like, 1 pitch . Where was THAT guy?

:rotfl:

When Szczur threw that ball that got Riz out I wondered if he was thinking "Sorry you traded me NOW??" But that was an outstanding throw...

I hope nothing like that happens. But I did joke last night when Sz was hit that was "payback" for getting out Riz. It might prove to be an interesting game tonight...

Is there another angle of the slide available? The only one I found was from the TV feed where the camera goes back to Rizz at the last couple seconds. I'd like to see his approach to the plate.

I wonder if he was on the wrong foot to slide behind the catcher.

Nevermind. I just watched it again. Rizz did change course a little bit to take out Hedges who was partially blocking the plate but he already had the ball. I think it could really go either way.

ETA: I will be shocked if the Padres don't hit Rizzo tonight. The only question is will it be his first at-bat or later? I wonder if he'll crowd the plate even more.
