Jambo! The newest AKL Information thread

Thank you so much for your help! Is touring plans free and how does the faxing work? Is there a way I can request online or should I sign up for touring plans? I'd rather not spend too much extra money.
So if I want a partial Savannah view my best bet is to say partial Savannah view on kudu trail closest to the lobby?

I'm sorry if I misread your previous post, I thought you had touring plans or I wouldn't have mentioned it :flower3: I think it's about $8 a year and totally worth it but as a previous poster mentioned if you booked through disney or a travel agent you can call and have them note your requests, which I would do if I didn't have touring plans. I usually book through Orbitz or another discount site so I rely on touring plans for room request and then I don't place any room requests at online check in. You can set up a "trip" on your Touring Plans dashboard (with your last name and reservation number) and note your room request(s) and they "fax" it to the resort for you about 5 days from arrival. I always edit mine to explain what I am looking for (which has always been to ask for a partial savanna view because that is my priority at AKL and I've always gotten it).

I think Kudu has the largest number of partial savanna standard view based on where the pool is but you could just make your request based on what's important, not based on a trail. (Like spelling out partial savanna instead of requesting Kudu versus Zebra). The good news is even if you end up with a view overlooking the bus stop and parking lot, there are so many communal outlooks you can get plenty of viewing!

This board was such great info before we went and based on the helpful info I got here, I've always had lovely views, so I want to help where I can. It's now my favorite resort and starting to feel like "home".

Does your room number indicate you were on the 5th floor? And you still saw lots of animals? Did the more distant view make it less enjoyable?
All of the DVC villas in Jambo are on the 5th floor except the club villas which are on the 6th floor. I've stayed in savanna view 1 br.s at Jambo a few times & always see animals. The animals wander, so sometimes you have to wait awhile before they wander into your part of the savanna and different groups come by at different times. One of these times I plan to stay at Kidani - but I really like Jambo's lobby & the Mara and the pool area there, so I keep choosing Jambo.
It's not really a more distant view, you're just looking down at them, but they don't seem far away to me, it's not like you're on the top story of the Contemporary looking down :)

I think I mentioned Touring Plans so that's probably why you assumed I had it. I have the basic account which is free but it's not letting me request. I did however see that there are only 4 rooms in Jambo House that are Standard rooms that have the King bed and day bed. So I called Disney yesterday and requested we definitely have the king bed/day bed since we need room for a pack n play and requested to be on the Kudu Trail. That leaves us with 2 room choices and they both have a partial savannah view. I really hope this works! I didn't request a partial savannah view due to the fact that the two on Kudu Trail are views but maybe I should add that to the note to ensure we get it? I can't see them putting us in a 2 queen room when we will need to set up the pack n play and the rooms at AKL are small to begin with. I'm so excited. 87 more days until FP+ 147 more days until take off!

Just jumping in here, but in my experience, the bed types on TP are often incorrect. I wouldn't go by the information on that website to determine how many rooms are like the one you want.

All requests are just that, requests. If what you've requested isn't available, you unfortunately won't get it.

We stayed at WL in May. I believe those rooms are similar in size to AKL (maybe even identical). We had a room with 2 queens and we put a full size crib in there with no problem. A pack n play will fit just fine in an AKL room with 2 queens, if that's what you end up with.

Yes we were on the fifth floor. We are DVC members so we are always on the fifth floor at Jambo house. It has never bothered us at all. I like being up high since it helps see animals in the distance.

We much prefer Jambo but have stayed at Kidani several times. The 1 bedroom has an extra bathroom but that is not enough to make us want to stay there. We prefer the Arusha Savannah on the Zebra trail by the watering hole. My favorite room is 5525 because you have a great view but you are also far enough away from the public overlook that it is quiet and private. We don't mind being further from the lobby it is only about a five minute walk.
Thanks Diana! This is exactly what I needed to know!!!

We are officially booked!!! Rented DVC points and have two savannah view rooms booked at Kidani January 20-27!!! We're on a waitlist for Jambo but I'm pretty sure I won't be complaining about either...!

I am a little worried about something so hopefully you guys can help me out. Does the animals nearby affect air quality at all? For ex smell or maybe dirt being kicked up or anything else? Someone in my group has a lung issue so we need to avoid anywhere thats going to cause problems. Thanks in advance!
