Is anyone going to miss the Universe of Energy?

Yes, I'll miss it. I also liked the original version better. I loved the preshow with the turning panels and I loved the music. Disney eliminated so much music from Epcot and it really affected the feel of the park and the rides. Ellen's version wasn't bad but it got old quickly for me. I really wished they could have updated the pre and post shows to keep up with the changes in energy technology and kept the dinosaurs. They could have added a GotG ride rather than replace a ride that almost anyone could ride.

Not me, I don't think I've been on it in 10+ years. The seats are nowhere near comfortable enough for how long the ride is.

Must admit I think it is time for UOE to move on, but I've had also taken a few naps once you're past the Dinosaurs.

That ride is nostalgic for me. I remember going in the 80s with my dad. And last year I took my own kids on it for the first time and they loved it -- so, while I understand why it's going, I will miss it. It was one of the last rides left that was original Epcot. I'm still upset horizons is gone.

Me and my family will miss the attraction.

On a daily basis there are always hotly cool & cooly hots flying around in our vocabulary.

Indeed-ds(20) said he felt like part of childhood was being taken away.

Anytime I can't understand what someone in my family is trying to tell me, I always say, "the ding-dang?" :)

To each, their own. I don't understand why there is disdain for this attraction especially because it's in a park that is light on the number of attractions.

I really enjoyed it. Granted, I usually fell asleep at some point, but I saw it every full day we spent in Epcot. Such a pleasant, cooling place to get off my feet on a hot afternoon.

I will miss it and wish that they could have kept it going for one more month so I could have seen it one last time.

We always liked it. I'm a sucker for dinosaurs.

But I give Disney credit for revamping all of their WDW parks (except for MK, which doesn't need revamping. And yes, I'm a fan of New Fantasyland.)

This has been my favorite nap location for years. AC and a great place to sit out a storm. The ride and videos are showing their age but remain educational, which is what they were intended for. I will miss Ellen.

GMR, I'll miss it too and wish that an update would have been done instead of a complete gutting of the ride. At least they updated the film reels a few yeasr ago, but this generation has no clue what the older movies are.

The Universe of Energy is one of the most technologically complex experiences at EPCOT. The two acres of solar panels on the roof of the pavilion provide 15% of the enerv needed to power Ellen's Energy Adventure, the 45 minute ride back in time to the age of the dinosaurs The six ride vehicles when fully loaded weigh approximately 10,000 pounds yet are guided on the floor by a wire only 1/8 inch thick.

That's a lot of technology wasted on sitting in front of a movie screen watching an old video.

No. Will not miss it. Wish they had just shortened it though. It is mostly a video. They could have easily updated the video for little cost to make it more current while retaining the educational aspects.

Also wish they had just kept GMR but updated with new movies. They could easily have just updated a scene or two every couple of years and kept it current.

BUT...I think closing both of these is more indicative of the direction Disney is moving with the parks. EPCOT was never even close to what Walt had in mind and is moving further away from its genesis. Hollywood Studios no longer retains anything that reflects the workings of a movie studio (except maybe the 30 year old stunt show).

I would not have been unhappy with an update to the attraction, just to make the videos more current and such, but something needed to be done with the attraction, so if GOTG is what they decided, then I am fine with it.

I will miss it very much! It's always been a favourite of mine and with all of the rumours of the closing I was really hoping to see it one last time...sadly I will miss it as my September trip is about 1 month after the closing.

That being said, I am excited for all of the new projects that will be coming, but would love it if there was a little cameo by Bill Nye and/or Ellen!

Yes I will miss it. It is our go to ride when we are tired and hot. I enjoy the ride and not just use it for resting though. We have been going to it for years and will always be a classic to us.

I really dislike Ellen Degeneres; I don't find her funny; so for me, I experienced "her version" twice and that was quite enough.

I also really dislike Ellen Degeneres. That's what kept us from going on UoE.

Also wish they had just kept GMR but updated with new movies. They could easily have just updated a scene or two every couple of years and kept it current.

Not a bad idea. I could have gone for that. I'm REALLY going to miss GMR. It was one of my favorite attractions.

Someone on Disboards said that the big reason was the sponsorship from TCM was ending, so there goes the ride. IMHO, I wish Disney would get away from the sponsorship model. Can you imaging if Peter Pan, Pirates, Haunted Mansion, et al, had been sponsorship-based attracations?

BUT...I think closing both of these is more indicative of the direction Disney is moving with the parks. EPCOT was never even close to what Walt had in mind and is moving further away from its genesis. Sadly true. At this rate, both parks are going to be MK-lite in less than 20 years.

I like the idea of the ride and I enjoyed the original version, although it was never a must-do for me every visit. I really dislike Ellen Degeneres; I don't find her funny; so for me, I experienced "her version" twice and that was quite enough. I won't miss the attraction, unlike the Great Movie Ride which I adore.

There was a version before this one
My 9 yo DGD will miss it. Me and DH, not so much
I adore Ellen but this was not her best work

That I agree with Ellen was very dull in this attraction

I will miss it... I hope the grass eating dinosaurs find a new home as they are my all time favorites.
I agree. Maybe they can work them in over at AK.

I did learn on the Backstage Tour they really never get rid of anything. It all goes in to storage somewhere.
