 Hello and welcome to my third Pre-Trip Report. (One of these days I may get around to finishing/starting a Post Trip Report ) If you didn’t read either of my other PTRs, my name is Ashlee. I’m 30 and I love all things Disney! My traveling partner is my wonderful husband Corey. Our first trip together was in October 2016 for our Disneymoon. At that time, he wasn’t such a big fan of Disney. He only agreed to go to WDW for our honeymoon, because he knew that it would make me happy. Since then, I have fully converted him into a Disney Addict and he is looking forward to our next trip just as much as I am, if not more! :thumbsup2

We were last at Disney World from April 29th to May 6th 2017! The weather was fantastic and we had a really wonderful trip. :cloud9:

This trip, we will be there from February 24th to March 3rd 2018. We are really excited and can't wait to be back at Disney World!! :hyper:

200 Days to Go!!! I Can’t Wait!!!

:welcome:
You found it!! :cheer2:

I just started it yesterday. I was trying to hold off because our trip still seems so far away and I didn't have much to talk about :worried:. But since yesterday our countdown was at 200 days, I thought that I should probably start making some plans. Less than 3 weeks until ADR day!! :rainbow:

Since then, I have fully converted him into a Disney Addict and he is looking forward to our next trip just as much as I am, if not more! :thumbsup2

Please teach me your ways lol I need to convert my BF. I've been trying to show him and have him understand my love of Disney but I've failed every single time :confused3

Following!

:welcome: Your trip is so soon! I'm jealous!! Have a great time!! I hope your BF sees the Disney Magic and becomes an addict too!! :cool1:

Please teach me your ways lol I need to convert my BF. I've been trying to show him and have him understand my love of Disney but I've failed every single time :confused3

Unfortunately, I don't think that I really have any magical ways to share :guilty:. Once he had been the first time, he had a better idea of what he liked and made more requests for what to do the second time and I tried to accommodate those. He also really likes that he doesn't have to drive all week, since he does 95% of the driving when we go out, plus his commute to work 5 days a week. :car:

But what I really think helps fuel his love of Disney vacations is having other guys to talk to about Disney :hyper2:. His boss and another co-worker both go to WDW with their families at least once a year. So between the three of them, someone is almost always planning a Disney trip. They often talk about the different restaurants and resorts and new attractions. I do "help" sometimes, by asking him to ask them for their recommendations on certain restaurants. He gets bored of hearing me talk/obsess about Disney, so it really helps when he can hear about it from other people :listen:.

If you don't know any other people that could talk Disney with him, maybe try you-tube videos. DH also likes watching reviews for new (to us) restaurants. The Disney Food Blog has been making a lot of videos lately with lists of must try restaurants or snacks. :thumbsup2

We will be staying at Pop Century again for this trip. We really liked it last time and are looking forward to staying there again. Last time we stayed in the 50s section with a “lake view” (it was really more of a “tree view”, but still nice and quiet). We were able to get a king room and will likely request one again this time. I liked the 50s section, but we may request a different section this time in order to stay in a renovated room.

When we were last at POP, renovations had just begun and none of the renovated rooms were ready yet. It seems as though renovations are moving along now and the pictures and videos of the completed rooms look great! Our non-renovated room was fine, but I would really like to stay in a renovated room this time.

They could use some more color IMO, but I really like the laminate floors instead of the carpet and the bath area looks really nice too!

Last trip, we had requested to be in the 70s section, but we were put in the 50s section. We did really enjoy the 50s section, but since those rooms are unlikely to be renovated by February. I will likely request to be in the 70s section again this trip. I will also make sure to request a renovated room.

The good and the not so good… I was able to get a great deal through our travel agent and we saved about $500. Unfortunately, the deal was not available for our entire trip, so we actually have 2 reservations. One for Saturday – Friday and another for Friday-Saturday. Has anyone ever had two reservations at the same resort? I am wondering if we will have to “check-out” and move to a different room on Friday or if we can make a request to stay in the same room. I am really hoping that we don’t have to move to a different room at the same resort. It seems unnecessarily complicated. We had considered using this as an opportunity to move and get to stay at one of the deluxe resorts, but ultimately decided that I’d rather put the savings toward house renovations... or maybe future trips.

The rooms do look great!

I haven't had this happen at Disney, but at Universal. I had to book with the AP rate a garden room for 2 nights and a pool view for 1 night because I didn't see the garden view still available. Obviously it was because at check in they asked if we'd just like to combine it and they refunded me the difference between garden and pool view for that one night. So if possible I think they'll make it so you don't have to check out and check in for one day.

After I posted that, I read in your PTR where you said you had 2 reservations at Universal... Yes, I'm about 10 pages behind :rolleyes1, but I'm working on getting all caught up in the next few weeks before your trip. ::yes::

Both of our reservations are for standard rooms, so I'm hoping there really won't be an issue with combining them, so that we don't have to move.

Minnie Update

Ok, before I get to talking about all the food we are going to eat on our trip, I had to share a picture of the new dress that I bought for our trip! As soon as I saw it , I knew that I had to have it. ::yes:: I ordered it online a couple weeks ago and it was torture waiting for it to be shipped and ready for pick-up. I was so excited when I got the email today, saying it was ready. :hyper: I was a little worried ordering online, but it fits perfectly and it even has pockets!! I can't wait to wear it at Disney! :lovestruc

When we started putting together our list of restaurants, we quickly realized that there were so many restaurants that we wanted to go to :hyper: and so little time to go to them all :sad1:. From our last two trips, we have figured out that we really prefer the table service restaurants and since we will often share meals, it really isn’t that much more expensive than if we each got a meal at the quick service restaurants (with the exception of buffets/all-you-care-to-eat restaurants obviously). We also really enjoy being able to take a break in the nice air conditioned restaurants ::yes::. We have whittled it down to a list of 12 table service restaurants that we would like to try during our 8 day trip; along with 3 quick service restaurants. I’ve decided to split our list up into 3 separate posts: 1 for repeat table service restaurants, 1 for new-to-us table service restaurants, and 1 for quick service restaurants.

Let’s start with the list of repeat table service restaurants:

Teppan Edo
We loved our meal at Teppan Edo on our last trip. We actually have several hibachi restaurants near where we live, but we never seem to get around to going to them o_O. Therefore, Teppan Edo is a special treat for us. :woohoo:

Mama Melrose
This is one of DH’s favorite restaurants that we went to on our last trip. We actually went there two nights in a row. We really enjoyed the food. I loved the Steak and Mac n Cheese and DH really liked the Pizza. I was also very impressed by the wait staff. Our waitresses for both nights were amazing! :thumbsup2 We are really looking forward to going back!

Crystal Palace
A favorite of both DH and myself, we definitely want to go back to Crystal Palace. DH loves breakfast food and was not happy when I tried to suggest that he could just eat Pop-Tarts in the room on our first trip together :confused3. Therefore, I have learned that I have to plan a couple table service breakfasts throughout the week to keep him happy. We both really enjoyed our breakfast at the Crystal Palace on our last trip and are looking forward to going back.

Yak & Yeti
I know that it’s not everyone’s favorite, but we really love the Yak & Yeti Restaurant at Animal Kingdom. We have ordered the same thing on our last two trips and will probably order it again this trip: the Crispy Honey Chicken and the House Fried Rice; we share them both. Last trip, we also ordered the Pork Egg Rolls. They were really good and we will likely get those again too.

Also, last trip, I had signed DH up for a Landry’s Select Club membership. It could have been a coincidence, but after showing them the card, we got amazing service! :thumbsup2 Food come out very quickly, our server was extra friendly, and the manager even came by to say hi and make sure we had everything that we needed (for reference, none of those things happened on our first trip).

Sci-Fi Dine-In
(I wasn’t sure which list to put this one on since I’ve been but DH has not. :confused3 The lists were a little lopsided though, so I decided to put it here.)

DH actually picked this one. I had not heard great things about the food here, so when I went on my girls trip in 2014, we had a reservation here, but we just ordered milkshakes. :drinking1 I heard that they recently got some new menu items, so when DH suggested it, I agreed to give it a try. I am excited for him to experience it for the first time. I think he will really enjoy the cheesy sci-fi clips!

Only 1 week until ADR day!!

The Dining Room Proudly Presents… (Part 2)
giphy.gif
I’m so excited!! Tomorrow is ADR day!! Last trip, we only booked about 3 months in advance, so we missed ADR day, but we were still able to get all the reservations that we wanted, so I’m not really worried about not being able to get the reservations that we want this time. I’m just so excited to be making another step forward in planning our trip!! :hyper:

Continuing the list of yummy places that we plan to eat, here are the new-to-us table service restaurants:

Liberty Tree Tavern
I have seen so many good reviews and dining reports for Liberty Tree Tavern. I am really looking forward to trying it! I really want to try the platter that has a little bit of everything, but that did not appeal to DH, so we are planning to go for lunch, so that he can get a cheeseburger. I am worried that the platter will be too much for me alone, but I still kind of want to try it.

Le Cellier
We had really wanted to try the cheddar cheese soup, when we were there for the Food and Wine Festival, but it was so crowded that we avoided the World Showcase completely after our first day there. Since we still really want to try the soup, this time we are planning to go to Le Cellier for lunch. We are only planning to try the soup, poutine, and dessert, but we’ll see how hungry we are that day.

Shulas
On our first trip together, we went to STK. While we both really enjoyed the steak, we agreed that the ambiance was strange (like a party where no one else showed up). For this trip, we wanted to go to a nice dinner with some really good steak, so we decided to try Shulas. We debated between there and the Yachtsman Steakhouse, but I thought the sides at Shulas sounded more appealing.

Coral Reef
I have talked about going to the Coral Reef for my last 3 trips. I have always wanted to go here, since I first watched the Full House and Boy Meets World episodes where they go to Disney World and eat here! However, I have not found any of the food to be very appealing. I am very picky about the types of seafood that I will eat and how it is prepared. I do think that several of their desserts sound really good though, so we decided to go just to eat dessert. I am hoping to go later, possibly during Illuminations, so that it hopefully won’t be super busy and we get a table next to the fish tank.

Garden Grill
We had a reservation for lunch at the Garden Grill on our first trip, but we were running late and opted to skip it. I have been wanting to try again (so that I can meet Farmer Mickey) and we were looking for another breakfast restaurant for DH, so we decided on this one.

I had also debated going to Ohana for breakfast. I went there in 2014 and didn’t have a great experience (it was crazy busy and they were running over an hour behind), but I had been thinking about giving it another chance. However, then I read that they had changed it recently and Stitch doesn’t come around to the tables now, instead you have to stand in a line outside of the dining area. I feel like at a character meal, you are paying extra, so that you don’t have to stand in lines. I think that the other three characters still come around, but Stitch is my favorite, so I don’t know if I want to bother with it or just go to the Garden Grill. Since I’ve never been to Garden Grill, I can’t really compare. Any opinions on which is better - Garden Grill or Ohana?

The Plaza Restaurant
This is another new restaurant for us. DH really loves sandwiches, so he was looking for a restaurant that had a club sandwich and chose this one. I had considered going here for a while now, but it kept getting pushed off the list by other restaurants that I wanted to try first. I am a little annoyed that they no longer take reservations for dinner. I like to eat dinner at 5:30 or 6, which is usually the time when the lines are longest, so making ADRs helps me avoid the lines. We do have a couple of backup options in mind if the line turns out to be too long.

Homecomin’
We were going to try this restaurant on our arrival day last trip, but we ended up being too tired and decided to just hang around the resort instead of going to Disney Springs. I really want to try it this time, so I am planning to make a reservation for an early lunch, before we have to go to the airport on departure day.

Shulas is amazing you won't regret it!

I'll let you know when we get back in September! However I've heard they took the bacon away at Ohana too and replaced it with ham. In my eyes that already gives Garden Grill an advantage.

All You Need is Faith, Trust, and a New Reservation!

Well clearly, I was too confident in not having issues making my ADRs, because everything went all wrong!

I was so excited! I got up early and turned on Lilo and Stitch (my favorite :lovestruc). Then I got on my laptop and made sure my list of ADRs was all set and I was on the site right at 6:00 am to make our dining reservations. Since we are staying on property, I should have been able to make reservations for my whole trip, but it would not let me make any reservations for any of the days after the first day :sad2:. It could see the dates and times available, but when I would click to book, I got the “Sorry for the Paws” error. I also tried the MDE app on my phone and DH’s laptop, but nothing worked. :sad1:

I kept trying and eventually called the dining line at 7:00 am, but the times that the CM was offering were not even close to the times that I wanted (or the times it was showing as available online). So I called the MDE internet help line, but that CM said that my reservation was in there correctly and that she couldn't find anything wrong with my account. I was really getting frustrated then. :furious:

I emailed my TA to see if she had any idea what might be going on with my account or even know how to fix it. I waited a few hours for her to reply and then I was getting anxious wondering if it was just my reservation or if it was the website that was the issue. :scratchin So I decided to go on and book a new room reservation directly through the website for the same dates. :confused3

After I made the room reservation, I was able to go on and make all of my dining reservations. I got all the ADRs that I wanted within 30 minutes of my preferred time! :woohoo: I don’t why the CM on the dining phone line was showing no availability.

Anyways, my TA finally responded a couple hours after that and said that it was an issue with MDE and not my specific reservation, so there was nothing that she could due. This clearly wasn’t true, since I was able to make all the dining reservations that I wanted after I had a new reservation. o_O

Me when my TA tells me that a problem isn’t her fault.

This is not the first issue that we’ve had with this TA. First, our reservation was made with a misspelling of our last name, so I couldn’t link it to my MDE account. Then for some reason she said that she couldn’t purchase the tickets at the same time as the room reservation. Then when she finally was able to purchase the tickets, she said that they would automatically show up in my account. It took over 2 weeks and me repeatedly asking her to call the group sales and IT departments, before they were finally able to get the tickets to show up on MDE. Now with this new issue making the ADRs, I’m just not sure if the savings is worth the trouble. :confused3

I am debating just cancelling my reservations with her and keeping the new reservation that I made directly through Disney. :scratchin It would have been nice to be able to save $500, but we still might be able to save about $300, if they come out with room discounts like they have in past years. With all the issues that we’ve had, I can almost guarantee that we are going to have issues making fastpasses too. Then what if we get down there and there are more issues like they can’t find our reservation or our magicbands don’t work!?! That could ruin our whole trip! :scared1:

I went through this travel agency (different agent) for our Disneymoon too and didn’t have any of these issues. I just can’t decide what to do. The accountant in me is saying “just think what you could do with an extra $500”, but the rest of me is saying “this is your vacation. It’s not worth the risk.” Should I give her another chance or pay more to make sure it’s right?

180 Days to Go!!! I Can’t Wait!!!

I am debating just cancelling my reservations with her and keeping the new reservation that I made directly through Disney. :scratchin It would have been nice to be able to save $500, but we still might be able to save about $300, if they come out with room discounts like they have in past years.

Should I give her another chance or pay more to make sure it’s right?

I know there are plenty of great travel agents out there. But I personally wouldn't book through a third party. If it's not much more than the Disney discounts I'd cancel with them. I like to be in control of the reservation and any changes, etc. But if I booked through someone else and they weren't really helping/causing more problems for me I'd cancel. It sounds like it's causing you more stress when using a travel agent should cause you less stress.

Hakuna Matata... It Means No Worries

We did end up cancelling our reservations with the TA. It was just more stress than it was worth. I am still hoping that Disney comes out with some room discounts for that time though.

If you want to hear my opinions about working with TAs, keep reading below. If not, then skip this post and I’ll be posting a new update about our trip next week. ::yes:: Also, since I’ve hit the post-180 day planning lull, I am going to try to make some progress on my TR for our 2016 trip and maybe even start a TR for our 2017 trip! :rolleyes1

Trip 1
We booked through the same travel agency (different agent) for our Oct 2016 trip and didn’t really have any issues; other than the fact that she led me to believe that it would be no problem to get a king bed room and we found out about 2 weeks before our trip that that was not going to happen. o_O I was really upset at the time, but have since come to realize that we don’t really have a bed preference, so that wasn’t really a factor in deciding to go with a TA this time. For that trip, Disney did not offer any room discounts at CBR (the resort we wanted) other than the pirate rooms and I was not going to sleep in a pirate ship bed on my honeymoon! :sad2: Therefore, going through the TA was the only way for us to get a discount. Booking through the TA was mostly just for the discount; I booked my own ADRS, fastpasses, etc.

Trip 2
For our April/May 2017 trip, I had contacted the travel agency, but they didn’t have any discounts for the dates that we were looking at going, so I booked the trip myself through the Disney website. :thumbsup2 Disney did have a room discount for that time, so going through the TA probably wouldn’t have saved us much more anyways. It was nice to be completely in control of my own reservation. Any time that I had an issue/request, I could call Disney directly. I didn’t need to wait for the TA to respond to my emails or get around to calling Disney. Plus Disney hold music is the best! :flower:I had no real issues with this reservation and we even got the king bed room that I requested. :cool1:

Trip 3
For this coming trip, I decided to see what kind of discount the TA could offer. Disney is not currently offering any discounts for the time that we are going, but I expect that they may come out with some next month. The TA discount was going to save us about $500, so we decided to book through her. As I mentioned in my last post, that was clearly a mistake. :sad1: Our reservations were nothing but problems this time and each time something went wrong, I had to rely on the TA to fix it. I don’t really know if the problems were her fault; if she entered something wrong or if it was just bad luck and a computer glitch messed up our reservation. Either way, something was definitely wrong and she refused to admit it. So I emailed her on Monday and asked her to cancel our reservations. I don’t know why, but I was so nervous about how she was going to reply. I have trouble confronting people and basically I was firing her, so it made me very anxious. :scared: I had nothing to worry about though, because she was actually really nice about it. She responded yesterday afternoon and cancelled our reservations and by this morning, the money was already back on my card. :cool1:

So now I have my own reservation booked through Disney that I am in complete control of. I hope that this is the end of our problems and that we can have the best trip yet! I likely won’t bother with trying to book through a TA in the future. I don’t really need any help planning and the discounts are not that much more, when Disney offers their own discounts. :confused3 We are also looking at maybe getting annual passes in the future, so we could hopefully get some room discounts with that. :hyper: The cost of an annual pass is actually slightly less than the cost of two sets of 7-day tickets with park hopper. So just 2 trips would make it worth the cost; not even counting the extras like photopass and room discounts. :woohoo: We haven’t gotten APs yet, because each trip we say that we are not going to go again within a year, but then each time we plan another trip. :rolleyes1

Yet again we are not planning to go on another trip again soon after this one. However, I’ve always wanted to go for Christmas and DH is really sad about missing the Halloween decorations this year (Halloween is his favorite holiday), so maybe I’ll do a little research and see if we could fit another trip in next year. :scratchin

I just found your PTR! We are actually also going in February and I've finally convinced my DH to let me get us APs so we can do multiple trips..so exciting!

:welcome: I've been MIA for a few weeks, but I'm getting ready to post a new update.

I am really trying to talk DH into APs for next year. We keep saying that we're not going to go again within the year, but then we do. :rotfl:Vacationing at not-Disney is just not as good as vacationing at Disney!! Plus I really really want to go see all the Christmas decorations next year. :santa: I really tried to make it work for this year, but flights prices and room availability were just not working for us. :sad1:

Everything Is So Confusing
I made all of our ADRs a few weeks ago and I’m already considering changing some of them. :rotfl:

I liked the plans how they were, but then I mentioned the “4 parks in 1 day” thing to DH and he seemed interested in the idea, so now we are thinking about doing that one of the days. We have done 3 parks in 1 day before, but not all 4. So we’re currently trying to decide where it would fit best in our schedule. :scratchin I never have enough time at Disney! :sad2: Also, I’m trying to decide whether we are going to have time to do any table service meals that day or if we should stick to quick service. If we have to stick to quick service, we may have to choose between some of the table service restaurants that we wanted to eat at on this trip.

Another potential hitch in my plan… I think we are going to have to make time to meet up with my uncle. My uncle Randy and his long-term girlfriend Barbara live in Orlando and were complaining when they were here in June that we’ve been to Orlando twice now and have not visited them. :confused3 To make matters worse, my sister actually stayed with my uncle when she went to Universal earlier this year, so I really look like the bad niece. It’s not that I don’t like my uncle; he’s actually the cool fun uncle. It’s just that he doesn’t really like Disney and I like to stay in my “Disney Bubble” while I’m on vacation. :cloud9: I have visited with them on the few occasions when I have gone to Orlando for work.

My Uncle Randy and Barbara when they took me Airboating in 2010

Also since they don’t really like Disney, they do not understand that I plan these trips so far in advance. I can’t ask him now what day he is available, because he has no idea what his plans are five/six months from now. o_O Anyways, in an effort to make time to visit with them, I am trying to plan some time outside of the parks. I was already planning to go to Shulas one night, so maybe they would like to meet up with us at the Boardwalk, but that’s a weeknight, so I don’t know. :confused3 The only other opening in our schedule right now is on our departure day. We are planning to go to Homecomin’ at Disney Springs for lunch, so maybe they would want to meet us there. I am thinking about changing my reservation to be for 4, just in case.

Future Trip??

So I brought up the idea of annual passes to DH and he seemed to agree that it would be a good idea. :hyper: If we go again within a year, buying the annual passes would save us about $750 on tickets and memory maker. (That doesn’t include any resort, dining, or merchandise discounts.) Which would be really great, because we also should have enough airline miles to cover most if not all of our flight costs for an additional trip. :woohoo: Which would mean that we could afford to stay at a deluxe resort for our second trip or DH even mentioned staying for a week and a half or even 2 weeks!! :yay: Plus we are looking at going in early December and going to MVMCP. :santa: I may even try to slip in a short trip in October. I’d really like to try MNSSHP again when I’m not dying of exhaustion and the F&WF during the week when it’s supposedly less busy. It’s all so exciting!!

giphy.gif

Now for the potential problem with this plan (and the reason that I keep saying that we’re probably not going to go back within a year)… I could potentially get pregnant sometime within the next year. :rolleyes1 We’re not really trying, but we’re not really not trying either. This was the main reason that I thought that we wouldn’t be planning any trips after our honeymoon, but it hasn’t happened yet, so I keep planning trips. We do want children and I can’t wait to be able to take them to Disney with us, but I also would like to be able to go to Disney World and see all of the Christmas decorations next year. (We looked a few weeks ago at possible options to go for Christmas this year and there was just no way to make it work.) So now I don’t know what to do. We don’t really want to actively prevent having a child, but if we buy annual passes and can’t go more than once, we will lose $450. I would still go if I wasn’t too pregnant, but not if I was really pregnant or had just given birth, obviously. So now we’re kind of stuck waiting to see what happens. :confused3

This sounds like SO much fun! I would love to try to do that!

Also, I’m trying to decide whether we are going to have time to do any table service meals that day or if we should stick to quick service.

Biggest struggle ever! It is so hard to give up park time to sit and eat

I feel like we are the same person. This was 100% our same concern with buying APs..even if we get pregnant I think we'll still get good use of our APs, but I will be super depressed when I can't ride my favorite rides/drink at all
