Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB RESORTS Information & Questions

We have our second BCV stay planned for Jan 2018. We ended up adding a day in the beginning but now there is no BCV studio availability through DVC rental. What are the chances it may open up?

We just booked YC for 3 nights.
I read through some of this but there is sooo much information.
I have a few questions:
1. Are all the rooms redone? Do they have hard floors?
2. What other construction will still be visible?
3. We are booked in garden view? What should we request to get a decent view but that is quiet?
Thanks,

We will be staying at the BC 11/19-11/25. This will be our second Thanksgiving stay and we are so excited!! Could you add us to the list?
Thanks!!:flower1:

It's a month and half away from our "Girl's Trip" ~not~ to the Yacht and Beach Club. Since these "Girls" are regulars on this thread I thought it would beneficial to provide an update on the extent of the packing of the luggage that is happening for this trip.

NM

I do have my packing list ready so that I will bring everything I need, and nothing extra. We aren't even there for a week - you do NOT need two suitcases. The only reason you need a carry on is to bring an extra pair of underwear in case your suitcase gets lost.

Like when my suitcase got lost 48hrs a few weeks ago going to Ft Lauderdale :crazy2: Good thing I had a change of clothing, undies, pjs and bathing suit in carry on. I've been down that road before!!
Are you supplying the Timmies?

Please drop our November trip from Be Our Guest list...I keep trying to get it to work in the schedule, but not looking good. I need to get "home" for a weekend, will have to wait for 2018...

But we get to add March 17-22 for Spring Break @ BCV (I get to drive 16+ hours with the kids 12/14/14 by myself, YAY! DW will be in Orlando for conference the week prior) and May 4 - May 8 DSS 15th Birthday Trip @ BCV

16 hour drive sounds like your driving from near Chicago

These tips, hacks and tawdry insights inside the minds of Beach and Yacht Club regulars will hopefully be of some assistance to those of you with upcoming trips. For others it will be a sad peep into the compulsive obsessive personality types that inhabit this board... as well as a look at the slackers that will just buy underwear at the gift shop when they run out.

Since Dee is already packed (yes, a month and a half away from this trip) I will tell you what's in her suitcase. You will be pleased to know that Dee bought new underwear for this trip. It is probably ironed with creases and carefully rolled up along with her shorts and a Beach Club T-shirt. Her Stormalong Bay, Olympic, Synchronized, Pool Tube Team T-shirt has been removed from it's fireproof display case and has been hung up on a padded hanger ready to go. This will be the t-shirt she wears on the first day. The people and CM's at Saratoga Springs resort will be confused when she checks in but, like the lemmings that return every fall to Food & Whine, as soon as she hits the Beach Club for the first of the daily walk throughs, throngs of autograph seekers will clog up the hallways requesting selfies when they see her.

Nanu Will pack the day before she leaves. She will not forget a thing but she will discover during the trip that she is out of toothpaste. She will ride shotgun with me when I go to Walmart and even though she says she doesn't want a pool noodle I will buy one for her anyway. Nanu will bring an extra empty suitcase that has room to bring back all the stuffed animals, Disney watches and cute baby clothes she will buy for Dear Grand Daughter (DGD). Nanu will hide these stuffed characters in her house and bring them out one by one until DGD is surrounded by them. DGD will decide that she wants to move in with Nanu. Mission accomplished! Bonus points... Nanu will teach DGD to tell time with that Disney watch before she turns 1. Note to Nanu: You better bring your bathing suit this time or we are tossing you in anyway!

JanetMom is Canadian. That should tell you right then and there that one small suitcase will be carefully packed with exactly the right amount of items for the trip. There will be no waste or unnecessary items that make it into the case. Even though it will be 1,000 degrees outside you can be certain that a light weight sweater and a refillable mug from a trip taken in 2015 will be in that case because, after all, she IS CANADIAN! This women packs like Mary Poppins! This bag will be 100% sensible just like JanetMom. If we manage to tempt JanetMom into buying a souvenir it will be something sensible and small like a pin with a Disney Canadian theme. Pretzel bread is her weakness and she is not above aiding and abetting the liberation of a number of loaves into a zip lock bag for enjoyment 5 minutes after we leave the restaurant.

NinjaMom Lord have mercy! Have you ever seen that show "Horders"? THIS is Ninjamom when she packs. Kitchen appliances, silverware, and prepared food will find it's way into her case. Perhaps more alarming are the items that didn't make it. The citrus juicer will sadly remain in the kitchen, jealous that the iced tea brewer made it on the trip. There will be enough new underwear for 2 changes a day even though we will have a washer and dryer in the room. Ever the thoughtful one, NM will bring enough tide pods for everyone to do 2 loads of laundry per day. And there will be dryer sheets... Who brings DRYER SHEETS to Disney?? NM that's who! Footwear will be brought to cover all weather conditions (including snow) and there will be enough complimentary 99 cent ponchos for everyone, every day. JanetMom and Dee will bring their ponchos from previous trips and Dee will win the award for oldest Disney Poncho (the clear one, not the yellow). NinjaMom can only afford to fly Southwest because they allow you two checked bags, a carry on and a personal item. NM will win the daily award for coming closest to the 50 pound limit per bag with out going over.

What is it with the compulsion to buy new underwear before you go on a Disney trip? It's not like we are parading around like Victoria's secret models on these trips.

~NM

Guilty of buying new undies before a trip too! Dee sleep with one eye open!!! I could use a packing lesson from JanetMom! This last trip my suitcase just made it at 48lbs and hate to say I only wore half of it. Nanu I'd listen to NM and bring that bathing suit!! At least you are riding shotgun and we won't have to listen to NM whine about getting lost, lol.

:welcome: back!

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list for January.

Unfortunately I do not know the answer about whether a BCV studio may open up for your trip. Maybe someone else will have a better feel for availability as time goes on.

Keep checking!

::yes::

We just booked YC for 3 nights for last minute trip for beginning of October.
I read through some of this but there is sooo much information.

:welcome: back!

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1, Post 15.

:yay:

1) Yes, all YC rooms are redone. I believe the all have hardwood flooring in the main room area (no carpeting)
2) Maybe some lobby work in the restaurants. Possibly exterior painting- I know that is happening over at BC, but should not be bothersome. The convention center near the YC is under construction. I don't think there is any disruption to the rooms. The bus route between YC and BC is impacted, I believe. Parking could be a bit limited in the BC/YC parking lot, but if you are not bringing a car, this should be a non-issue.
3) Not sure. Many of the garden view rooms at the YC look into the back (lakeside) entrance courtyard or the wedding gazebo. I suspect the wedding gazebo view may be a slightly quieter area, but a lot will depend on who is around you at the time of your trip.

What is it with the compulsion to buy new underwear before you go on a Disney trip? It's not like we are parading around like Victoria's secret models on these trips. The only things that will see your undies are the washer and dryer at the resort. The whole rest of the year at home we are content to wear underwear that is so "hole-y" the Pope will bless it and the staff at the local emergency room will marvel at the size of the holes. Sometimes it looks like you are wearing a thong but they really started out as a pair of Granny panties 17 years ago.

I think the only people that don't buy new underwear before they go on a trip are husbands. I know every time we go on a trip together, NinjaMom has to remind NinjaDad that he needs to run to Walmart and get a 6 pack (or 2) of the tighty whities. He always packs the t-shirts with the holes in the pits. I'm thinking that he is hoping for added ventilation in the Florida heat. Nobody wants to see NinjaDad's pits so we have to have a "conversation" about that. NinjaDad is stubborn and we compromise so that he can wear the hole-y t-shirts as his pajamas. I feel sorry for Mousekeeping if they should accidentally stumble upon him in the room, passed out on the bed at mid-day from too much Disney. (He is a Disney Slacker) I'm sure the Mousekeepers have tales of Post Traumatic Pit Disorder compliments of ND and those t-shirts...

This is a man that has a mountain of t-shirts but the ones with the holes are in constant rotation. Sometimes ND's hole-y t-shirts mysteriously disappear in a dryer black hole... you know, the one that gets all the socks...

I know nothing about this and shrug my shoulders and say to check the lint trap when he discovers a t-shirt is missing. At this point there usually is more hole than shirt so it makes sense that the lint trap would finally claim it. Ninja Dad also thinks he is clever when he returns from the tighty whitey expedition at Walmart with a sixer of the crew socks. He doesn't realize that I have been supplementing his sock situation for years.

So there are your packing tips and hacks. Go with God on this one... I'm sure you have your own horror stories and packing hacks. Some of you may even have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from that time you had to use the Value Resorts "All in one shampoo and conditioner". If you are not familiar with THAT fiasco just think about what using 'Brillo" cleanser on your hair would do. Yeah, that bad.... Just thinking about that experience has reminded NinjaMom to bring the Gallon size of Pantene shampoo in case somebody runs out.

Off to Walmart!

Nah, the coffee and accessories are in the carryon. I don't want to risk not having it if my luggage is lost so I feel more secure if I have it with me in the cabin of the plane.

:coffee:

I bring dryer sheets and my espresso machine. It's one of those itty bitty nespresso machines, so it easily fits in a carryon. I also bring coffee and a grinder and extra filters for times we stay in a villa. Because coffee is serious business in our house. Or at least with me. The kids aren't such fans.

Hi guys! Just wondering if anyone will be staying YC CL soon. I'd like to know if any of the evening offerings have changed. We can do Online Check-in in 10 days! Trip is finally getting close!!

Returned a few weeks ago from our first stay at BC... needless to say, we loved it. One little thing that we loved was the smell of the lobby when you return from a long day at the parks. Question... does YC have a similar smell? We were thinking of booking at YC next time, but strangely enough, the lobby smell might change my mind lol.

Yes, that lobby smell, aaaahh! We just got back from our first stay at the YC and we fell in love with the smell of the lobby (and the whole resort itself of course). We're now obsessed with trying to replicate that smell at home. From what I hear, the BC and YC lobbies have the same scent, or at least very similar.

Check out this website! I, too, am obsessed with the Beach/Yacht Club scent! This company has a similar scent in a candle and wax tart form. We LOVE it!

:welcome: to posting on the thread. In addition to the helpful info about the spireside candles, we have a section on Page 1, Post 14 about some of the things that mimic the scent of the Yacht & Beach club.

Thanks for the info and testimonial about the spireside candles. I can't remember if I have the info on the front page or not. I'll add it if I don't.

Hi All,
We usually stay at the Poly, and just returned from GF. I use the healthclub daily. They have the Villas, GF and the Poly sharing one gym, and it is often a wait for the treadmills, and NOWHERE TO SHOWER or put a gym bag.

We recently stayed at AKL, and the gym was PERFECT! Our upcoming trip is at the BC. Can someone tell me about the heath club? is there a place to shower? A decent amount of treadmills? 24 hour access? And is it accessible from the resort, or do you have to go outside?

TIA to all for any help!!!!!!

I am going to post your question over on the Beach & Yacht Club FAQ board for additional feedback from guests who have used the workout room at the resort. There are pictures and some info in Post 5 on Page 1 of that thread. Click on the link in my signature.

Yes, there is a locker room and shower in the space shared by the health club and the spa, which is run by an outside company.

A couple of years back, the spa management started restricting use of the showers to guests who wanted to use the area after using Stormalong Bay. I thought that people who were working out in the health club were still permitted to use the shower, but I'm not positive.

If access is restricted to only spa guests, there is another option.

In April, changing rooms with showers (male/female/unisex) were opened near the healthclub, but you would have to exit the health club to use them.

The door to the health club is sort-of outside. You get there through the hallways of the Beach or Yacht Club, but the spa itself is in an open-air part of the resort, sort of like the entrance to Beaches & Cream restaurant.

Not sure about 24 hour access.

Ship Shape Health Club has 24 hour access. There are approximately 8 treadmills [as of May 2017] and I have never seen them all being used at once. The busiest time that I've observed was between 6:00 - 7:00 AM on weekdays, with mostly conventioneers. The Beach and Yacht Club also have access to nice running routes around the Epcot resorts; Crescent Lake and the path along the canal to HS.

That smell is amazing!

Yes, the YC is the same scent. I actually thought it was stronger at the YC, maybe due to the lack of the food smell from CM.
