Flying into Fall!! – WISH September Lifestyle/Weight Challenge

@Flossbolna that is awesome about fitting into those clothes maybe the change is that you are developing some muscle which would account for the scale not changing too much but losing centimetres instead :-)

The exercise physiologist told me last weekend that weight is not their primary measure of success with improving health/activity as it is so inconsistent and that measurements are a very useful way to provide an indication of progress.

So, let's talk about fruit - a staple in the bats diet, a staple in yours? With fall arriving rapidly, the fruit offerings are changing, are you looking forward to fall fruits and how do you get through the winter months when fruit is less fresh and readily available than in summer?

They definitely not a staple in my diet. I go through phases of being better at it. I do love watermelon, grapes, berries, cherries and lucky me - our best strawberry season here is August/September and have been enjoying some really tasty strawberries lately! The more into summer we get the locally grown strawberry season passes and the ones available come from further away including overseas and the quality/taste just isn't as good. Oh and Blueberries! They are really cheap and sooooo yummy at the moment. I am moving towards summer here and so get to look forward to those fruits :-) I just need to make having more fruit no matter the season part of my regular routine.

I weighed myself again this morning and i am down 1.4 pounds since yesterday. Yay!!! I just need to keep it up. I didn't get to the rec last night as i had to work late and then had cheer practice with my daughter. I am hoping to go tonight though and still get a few days of exercise in.

Well done that is awesome - more motivation to avoid those donuts more often :P

I am a little bummed this morning though and really trying to keep my emotions in check. After about a month to a month and a half of my daughters ankle has been not hurting, she woke this morning and doesn't want to put weight on it. I so thought we were good. We have slacked on doing her foot exercises since school started so i am hoping that doing them again will get her back to normal. I really do not want her to have surgery at 10 years old.

 I hope it improves with renewed exercises - it is hard in the busyness of life sometimes to fit in the little things - but sometimes they are super important as I am finding out myself at the moment with my own musculoskeletal issues.

Just stumbled into this part of the Dis forum but I'm excited!

:welcome: sounds like a great goal for the month and we are always happy to help support new friends on their healthy journey :D

I love fruits so much more than vegetables. Right now we are eating lots and lots of grapes. Always bananas and in season (think--on sale) the little personal watermelons. They are not as good as a full size one, but with just two of us they are plenty. In the winter we eat the fruit I've canned. We usually do cherries, pears and peaches. This year we had enough pears from last year that we didn't can them. Today after work I dashed out to the fruitstand and bought two boxes of peaches. Need to spread them out so they will ripen and then can them in a couple days. Mmmmm. They are my favorite.

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all have a great start into the new week!! It is time to report your progress toward goal. Please let me know the percentage that you are and I will post the update later today.

I am at 47%. The last week was rough, I was getting my deficit, but some days it was not as large as it should be. I.e. I ate too much. But I am feeling much better this week, so hopefully eating will improve!

QOTD for 9/17:

Time to reflect on where you are this far in September with regard to your monthly goal. Do you feel like you have made progress? Do you need a reset and make the second half count? There are still nearly two weeks left in the month, so plenty of time to move forward!

Question of the day for 9/14:

Ok, trying to keep the flying theme here, but it is difficult when talking about food and I think it is time for a food QOTD!

These are the fruit bats from Disney's Animal Kingdom park at WDW! So, let's talk about fruit - a staple in the bats diet, a staple in yours? With fall arriving rapidly, the fruit offerings are changing, are you looking forward to fall fruits and how do you get through the winter months when fruit is less fresh and readily available than in summer?

Honestly, I don't! I prefer summer fruits. But I love the warm seawater pool, fall fashion, being cozy home! I actually don't really want to travel in the winter, once it's October I am ready to spend the winter home and enjoy the build up to Christmas.

Goal update/QOTD: I'm at 49% for the month, which is pretty good for having two weeks left. I'm doing really well with getting enough water and exercise so it will come down to how that translates to pounds lost.

I made this little calendar that I update every day with my progress and that's really helped me to visualize and make it easier to keep track since I have three separate goals this month.

Hello all... back to reality this morning. Yug. Nashville was lovely, at least what I saw of it. I was really pleased with how I put the trip together... the drive from my hotel to the shop where the class was being held took me thru a neighborhood with houses worth $1.5 million plus and the shop itself was in a trendy little shopping district. The class was wonderful, with a delightful group of students. This time the teaching was much more in depth than the class I took last summer and I feel like I can now take up dyeing on my own.

Surprisingly I got 10,000 steps in yesterday even though I spent the majority of the day sitting on planes. For my connection in Houston we landed at gate E14 and my next plane was taking off from C4... I swear the E gates are in east Texas and the C gates are in West Texas, but it felt good to get up and move. Then when we were all seated on the Seattle plane the pilot came on and said there was a mechanical issue and we had to de-plane while they worked on it. Then they decided to give us a new plane, and guess where it was pulling in... yep, E17. Back to east Texas.

I can't say that eating during the trip was good, there wasn't a lot of dairy but there was a lot of gluten and overall it was very unbalanced. So I'm going to stick with 10% so far for the month.

QOTD:
I do love fruit, of course because it is mostly sugar. Last evening I was craving grapefruit, so I got out of my PJ's and drove to the store. While there I realized I was mostly thirsty, so I chugged some water when I got home.

QOTD: Mid-month check-in... so far September is panning out to be just like August was, so I need to get myself going and make a success out of the remainder of the month.

I am not sure where I am at. I am going to to with 0. I didn't weigh myself from mid August until last week. I am though back at where i was mid August.

Today has been super off the wall. My son went off to camp for school for the week. I think he was nervous but that went fine. My daughter is having issues today. Complaining about everything hurting. She doesn't show emotions very well unless she is ticked off at something so we are thinking that she is having a hard with our son being gone. We are going to do some super fun stuff with her tonight hoping that will help. Her foot is better and i am thinking that it was not as bad as she was letting us to believe. I think it hurt a little but she decided that she wanted to be over dramatic about it. We think she might have wanted to get out of gym class.

Work has also been crazy as there was some miscommunication between my boss and myself. No harm was done just some stress for a little bit.

I am already at 5,000+ steps for today. This is really good normally i am around 3,000. So doing go today. This weekend I did not get 10,000 but I wasn't too far off. After a long day on Saturday with a soccer game, hair appointment and cheer I only had like 4,000 steps at 10:30. My husband waited for me to get home and we went for a walk. I got close to 7-8,000 steps. Better then the 4,000 so a win. Then on Sunday I got about 9,000 running around getting everything together for my son for camp and normal house work. Though I didn't hit my goal I think I did pretty good. We will see how tonight goes with my daughter. I will go to the rec if i am able.

I don't think I ever picked a goal for the month! Because things have been rough and with a cruise that leaves on Saturday I am going to make my goal just to maintain and for hurricane Maria to stay far away from land!!!

My answer to yesterday's QOTD: I feel like I have doing well, but that I have been slacking a little compared to August. Partly this was because I just felt so exhausted at the beginning of the month. I think I overdid the exercise a bit. So, slacking has been good for me because it helped me to recover more. I still need to find a better equilibrum between activity and needed rest. The one thing I need to work on is sleep! Maybe I will choose a sleep goal next month again. And it is just me who is standing in my own way of getting more sleep because I have such a hard time to stop reading stuff on the internet and just switch off the light. So, I think my resolve to improve the second part of the month needs to be that I have to add in a focus on sleep...

I guess, answering my own question, was really helpful for myself today!! :goodvibes

Question of the Day for 9/19:

Thinking of Disney movies fitting to the theme of Flying, I remembered this scene from Wall-E:

picture_4.png

Wall-E and Eve fly - and dance - through space and have so much fun! It is my favourite scene from this movie because it shows so much emotion without anyone talking about emotion. And fun is an important part of being healthy! Do you feel that your approach to live healthy is incorporating enough fun or do you find it more of a chore? Which aspects are fun for you or do you have any ideas on how to incorporate more fun?

QOTD: This is a great question! I have found recently that I'm getting into a little bit of a rut when it comes to meals so I need to find a way to incorporate fun and mix up my meal planning a little bit! Part of the problem is I'm a bit of a picky eater and not a very imaginative cook. I can cook well, but I have to follow a recipe. If I try to just wing something then it usually doesn't go well. So if the recipe has an ingredient that I don't like, I usually don't know what to replace it with and I end up not using that recipe. And that happens often because of how picky I am!

So I need to put more effort into finding new and different recipes to try so I don't get bored and end up going out to eat just to have something exciting.

So I need to put more effort into finding new and different recipes to try so I don't get bored and end up going out to eat just to have something exciting.

There is a thread here on the DIS with healthy recipes: WISH Away the Pounds--Healthy Recipe Thread (new title) Maybe you can find something there? @pjlla used to keep it up to date, but I haven't seen her around in ages! (Has anyone of you heard from her? I am a bit worried as she was such a regular poster...)

QOTD: I think one of my problems is that having fun overrides healthy living, but what I really need to be doing is making healthy living fun. That could be thru cooking more interesting things (or cooking at all), as @dolewhipdreams has mentioned or thru exercise choices. Good question... its got me thinking!

We have cool temps and rain again today - hallelujah! It just feels so darn good. And even better, today is the last day for this type of weather and then things dry out and warm up to the mid-70's which is absolute perfection for my Niece's outdoor wedding Saturday. The wedding is why I have a short week again (another halleljah!)... Thursday we go pick up the flowers and get them soaking then head out to the state fair (hopefully I've got the timing right for sheep this time): Friday is venue set-up and the pre-ceremony dinner. Its going to be an emotional roller coaster for my Sister... so far she's been focused on my Niece's insistence that this is not a "normal" wedding and not to do anything "traditional"... but I think the actual ceremony is going to be a bit challenging.

During the long weekend I'm going to find time to strip-mine the kitchen, emptying all the cupboards, sorting thru stuff and making a run to Goodwill. I have a small kitchen and it feels so stuffed full and over run that there's barely room for me and if I'm going to get serious about cooking I do actually have to be in the kitchen at some point. This will be my first step to making cooking fun.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Right now it feels like a chore. Life seems to be really crazy and I need to fight to get my workouts in. I think I am going to do a workout game on the Xbox that I have. It is only like 20 minutes but it kids my butt. I think doing this 2 times a week and then getting to the rec 2 times a week would work. My only down side is once I get home I tend just sit and relax. I need to just do it.

My daughter got better as the day went on but then had a melt down at bed time. She refused to take her singular and it went down hill from then. This is something new. She has never fought a day in her life to take her meds. SHe is one that I can tell her to take her meds and she just goes and does it. So I am not sure what this was all about. Hopefully tonight will be better.

My son has only been gone a day and I am really starting to miss him. He has been gone from me for a week before but this time he is not with family. I know he is fine and having fun but I just miss him.

Put me down for 0% so far - I have had a bad week - my anxiousness has flared up, combined with some pain in my left arm/shoulder (which is probably part of the reason for triggering anxiousness) - I have had an ultrasound on my arm and an echocardiograph so far - I need to re-do my bloods and have a treadmill stress test done. Some of it is to determine to reason for the left arm symptoms and the other is to check up on heart murmur that was discovered in my 20s - sometimes with some activities I can get really fatigued and in my 20s almost blacked out after swimming laps (and not all that many) - so having it all checked out - I also figure if I get the all clear this should help overcome the anxiousness I get about increasing my activities level and types.

Do you feel that your approach to live healthy is incorporating enough fun or do you find it more of a chore? Which aspects are fun for you or do you have any ideas on how to incorporate more fun?

Definitely in the chore phase! I did try a new recipe for a chicken burger tonight and it was really tasty so will have that again. I picked it up at the local supermarket on the weekend - the had a stand with a dietician with some recipe ideas and healthy eating handouts.

@pjlla used to keep it up to date, but I haven't seen her around in ages! (Has anyone of you heard from her? I am a bit worried as she was such a regular poster...)

Nope haven't seen her around here for a few months - I figured she may have been busy helping her daughter settle into her Disney Internship...

My son has only been gone a day and I am really starting to miss him. He has been gone from me for a week before but this time he is not with family. I know he is fine and having fun but I just miss him.

 I completely understand.

It's Woohoo Wednesday!! Share something positive about you and your life from today or this past week!

WooHoo its Wednesday... as already mentioned, the trip to Nashville turned out even better than I had hoped. The only thing that could have made it better would have been to have had more time to explore.

Also as already mentioned, this is another short work week and woohoo, this time I'll get to sleep in every morning as there won't be any 3am trips to the airport. The days have already gotten significantly shorter and its dark in the morning when I get up for work, which makes it tough to crawl out of bed, so a couple more hours of sleep will be wonderful.

I double checked the fair schedule and there will be sheep tomorrow... so very happy about this.

With Nashville done, I can now focus on the November trip to WDW. When I was flying this past weekend I realized how much I hate crawling over seats to get to mine and how trapped I feel during the flight and it occurred to me that there's a simple solution... stop booking window seats. :earboy2: So Monday I switched my WDW seats to aisles. And I'm so so glad I booked non-stop flights... and not the red eye which is going to be different. One of the other gals booked FP+ for most of the trip, but there's one day I need to take care so I'll do that today, and also do a couple ADR's for days when we're not doing group meals.

Hope everyone has a woohoo-able Wednesday - stay healthy my friends!

Though this week has been a little off things are looking up. My woohoo is we had an event at work today. As of 3:10 pm I have 8,649 steps and 17 flights of stairs. I think that is a good workout for today. I will have to walk back to my car at the end of the work day.
