Why the bad reviews?

^I think it may just be luck of the draw. I've honestly been surprised every time it's happened (maybe 3 times?).

I honestly think they need to pull MM off of the 3+ day park hoppers as a perk. Want Early Entry, have to stay onsite.
I haven't been to Disneyland (yet) but in researching the ticket options I was surprised that the Magic Morning days for 3+ day park hoppers are the same days as EMH for on-site guests, and it's only 3 days per week. Meanwhile DCA doesn't offer MM, only EMH, and it's 4 days per week. I feel like it'd make more sense to offer MM/EMH at DL 4 days/week and EMH at DCA 3 days/week. Or allow you to choose between DL or DCA for your MM day to spread out the crowds. (Or, as you said, get rid of MM altogether. I wonder how many people who wouldn't buy a 3-day ticket anyway decide to buy the 3rd day just to get the MM perk.)

LOLZ... Lesser Crowds... in the morning... THIS is an EMH Crowd these days...

You read that right... EXTRA MAGIC HOUR!!! Not even GENERAL ADMISSION ROPE DROP... EXTRA CROWDED HOUR!!!
WOW!!!

OK, something is wrong with the above pics. Magic Morning is usually limited to 2 gates on the far right of DCA. At Disneyland, the gates are usually to the far left. The rest of the lines are for Rope Drop. The pictures above really look like people waiting for rope drop. When we are there for EMH, people aren't standing around in walkways, they are moving past the CMs to the ride areas.

They were pulled directly out of my TRs with the times on them.

Joe had the same experience

And here's the DL direct link. As you can see, it was EARLY for EMH/MM

Maybe the above pics will deter some people from coming, because WOW! The prices go up, and more people come. I blame social media, lol! I have been going every few years since 1976, and Disney needs to work harder at crowd control.... its become such a locals park, and no I am not local, I Live in Reno,NV.
I Have experienced the scooter problems, with families actually racing through DCA.
Disneyland simply was not built with these kinds of crowds ever imagined!

I will be there the first week of Nov, then Maui gets my money too..........

At the MM last Tuesday (not this past Tuesday, the one before), seemed like most of the gates were for MM. And for good reason- the lines ended up being huge.

WE still do 9-10 park days per year. The crowds don't deter us, but it sure makes for a less pleasant experience. We end up paying more for preferred access, spend less time in the parks because they get miserable in the early afternoon (go do cabana/pool time). It hasn't impacted our trips from a frequency/amount perspective, but I sure feel like I'm getting less and less for my $ and having to spend more to have a similar experience to days gone by.

Agreed! Us also are staying on site more, simply because of the pools, and convenience... when we used to be happy at the HoJo,or Fairfield Inn. Now we exit at noon or before, head to the Disneyland Hotel, my hotel preference, and have lunch poolside. One of the problems with this, is that the Monorail is frequently down... then you have the death march through DTD, in 99 degree noon day heat, cutting through the WOD, to get some relief... first time for the GC coming up.... but I Love the DLH!

We are usually GCH, but we are flipping it this trip and doing DLH. Going to take it a little easier. Even have SH55 reservations so there's a family dinner far from the park.

I just can't buy walk-up turnstiles for either EMH or GA park entry.
I'll start taking some timestamped pictures, I guess...

I am there multiple times a week and I absolutely see it both ways. Some days are walk-up. Some days are security lines stretched back to Harbor. They vary for a whole variety of factors, some which are predictable, and some which aren't.

On Monday, September 18, we were at a 10am rope drop that was moderate because we parked at Toy Story at 9:10. We were in the park at 9:45 (and there was NO line at Starbucks!). The people we were meeting hit the M&F parking structure at 9:40, got rerouted, and didn't make it into the park until after 11, almost 11:30. They encountered crazy lines at every turn. 30 minutes and a different parking lot led to a VERY different experience getting in and almost a 90-minute difference in arrival times. That unpredictability is a lot of what makes it challenging for people... but it doesn't mean the "walk-up" experience never exists.

A walk up experience means NOBODY from the hotels or with 3-day park hoppers showed up for EMH/MM. Granted, I can only draw from my experiences but I've NEVER seen it without lines which have formed. I have experienced short lines, but there are always lines. I would love to see a walk up EMH. Please take some pics.

Am I the only one that prefers DLH to GC? We stayed there once in September 2014 and I just wasn't impressed, honestly. Don't get me wrong, the craftsmanship is beautiful, but I just didn't feel that Disney magic.

It may also possibly be because my mother thinks the winding hallways look like The Shining hotel and it freaks me out. LOL

i believe when something somewhere else goes overbudget, i.e. shanghai disney, Disneyland often gets the burden of cutting costs to make up for it. If you need to cut entertainment/parades, bummer... but honestly, for how busy it is all the time now and what people pay, the hours really should be 8a-at least 10pm daily no matter what time of year. And really, as long as people are in the parks, they're going to make money.

If I ever go again, it will be in summer. The crowds are there all year anyways, so I mine-as-well take advantage of a fully staffed, full hours, full entertainment park for the full price I pay instead of whatever scraps disneyland decides to throw at me in September for the same ridiculous price.

Honestly, the summer crowds were just as busy as September and even less than late Feb/early March. Sure, there's heat, but there's also 8am-11pm hours. When the parks open at 8am, the parks are just way better all day.

Holy Benghazi!!! I can say, though, that i saw exactly that last November the three days after the Avenger's race. Long security. Longer gate wait. At this point, DL should be opening at 8am until crowds actually go down!

Just so we ware clear, everybody in that first pic of mine STAYED AT A DLH resort hotel... and they are thinking of building ANOTHER!!! Crazy.

That's my big worry. When Disney should be building a 3rd gate, they're instead building a 4th hotel.

I will be there the first week of Nov, then Maui gets my money too..........

My wife and I have been saying the same thing. We'll only have time in the summer next year, and that's too hot for WDW. So it looks like it's time to practice my hula dance.

And I agree, I am not pulling my kids out of school again only to face insane crowds. I'll take them in the summer next time as well.

oh man. My family wasn't even awake when MM was starting and now I am glad. Walked right in and didn't feel like we missed much. They really should do away with that.
What time was rope drop and what time did you show up?

on 9/13 we flew in and landed around 9:25, parks opened at 10, we got there around 10:15. Security was about a 5 min wait but no wait to get into the parks.
on 9/14 parks opened around 9, MM at 8 at DL, we arrived around 9:20 because no one woke up until 8:15 lol.
on 9/15 we arrived just after 9 for a 9am opening, security lines were insane but we were able to get through fairly quickly and walk right into the park.
