Pop Century Room Renovations

I have a preferred room booked 11/1-11/6. I called last week to make a room location request (yes, I realize this is only a request; not a guarantee).

Really, really would like a refurbished room, so I went out on a limb and requested Building 10. (I explicitly said Building 10.) When I got the confirmation e-mail, it just says "Guest requests 70's."

We shall see what happens...
Eek.

If you want a refurbished room and building 6 is still closed, I don't believe your request can be granted. If you don't mind an old room, I really like the 60's section, building 4 for lake plus AoA rooms. Please note though with these rooms that you will now see gondola construction from this location.

If you want a refurbished room, you may wish to request an 80's building 7 but it will depend on what room they grant you weather or not you can see the lake.

Unfortunately I have not tracked the dates that the building refurbishments started and ended. Wish I had! If anyone has these exact dates we can see about having them added to the post on page 1.

Okay thanks! I'm gonna go look at the views from Building 7 and see what I think. I actually just looked at Building 10 and really like the view from some of those rooms.

I'm trying to add room requests to my reservations but nothing is coming up. It just says 'select' however when I hit the select button none of the categories are showing up. Anyone know why this might be?

Everyone, across all WDW resorts, is having an issue with the room request section of Online Check In. They broke it when they applied the last "magical enhancement". As usual, your best bet is to call the Main Reservations line and add any room requests to your reservation. This can be done any time from the day you book up until 4-5 days out.

To be honest, I wouldn't count on Building 6 to be completed at the end of February. It might be but at this time it's hard to tell. They started the renovations in early March and in 7 months only 3 buildings have been completed and reopened. The 4th building (building 10) has been under construction for 2 months now and there are no reports that they are close to reopening it. They probably won't close down 6 until 10 is reopened or very close to reopening. Even late February seems to be calling it close for it being open although I would love to be proven wrong. I'm not sure how Disney construction works but I know where I am, many places slow somewhat over Christmas as people take additional time off.

There are more standard rooms than Preferred room. If a renovated room is your first request I would keep that as your room type.

See above. I agree and think it will be January or even February before building 6 is completed.

I've believed all along that the 70s would be done before my 2/3/18 check-in date, but I'm beginning to think you may be right.

Even if they're doing one building at a time, based on the work timeline building ten should be open by the end of the month. If they start on building six immediately after ten pins, it should be done by February 1.

So then if we could hope for the shortest renovation time to happen again - 10 should open around October 10th - if they could start work on 6 soon with another approx 70 day renovation would be completed just before Christmas - this is the first time only 1 building is really being worked on "alone" wonder why
I would love for it to open next week because I check in October 18 n have a preferred room with my reservation!!!

I just read on another board that someone checked in today and got new room in Building 10

Preferred rooms meet your location requests, which is why they're Preferred. Standard Pool View rooms are, often, almost as close (as are Preferred Pool View rooms, but probably not desired by guests who opt for the lesser priced Standard rooms.)

Booking a room in the location being sought makes infinitely more sense than requesting, and by late winter a good portion of those rooms should be refurbished.

Afaik, there is no request option for refurbished, since the situation is temporary.

I thought “preferred” rooms were what Disney decided were preferred and not me. For instance, I may prefer to look at the parking lot, but there are no “preferred” rooms that look at the parking lot.

How would I book a room in a specific location? My reservations CM said she could note my preferences but nothing was guaranteed.

Arrived last night around 5pm. I requested 80s or 90s section but got 70s. Building 6. Got room ready text at 3:30. Room is pretty run down, though clean. Went to DS for dinner. It poured rain. Went to go back to Pop and the bus stop was packed full of people all the way out of the queue. Waited for like 30 minutes when bus pulled up. Guy slowly got people on, did not pack people on, sat there with door closed for a while and then pulled off. Luckily a second bus had pulled up, but they had to switch drivers and afterwards the new driver sat there with doors closed for several minutes. From time I walked up to bus area, it took a good 75 minutes to get to Pop. While I was soaking wet and tired after a nine hour drive.

Exact same experience. Checked in on Sunday transferring from our 1 night ASMo and didn't get a refurbished room. It was a rough day all around, the kind where it seems like nothing is going like we hoped. We were in building 6 all the way by the lake. I was kicking myself hard for cancelling my preferred room for a standard when I ended up way out by the lake and in an old room. One thing to note though-the old Pop room was wayyyyy nicer than the ASMo preferred room and equally far from the buses/lobby. I am so glad that was only for one night. You know it's not good when your 14 year old makes a comment that the room sucks even old Pop beats ASMo hands down. Even thought the room in building 6 was an improvment from the one at ASMo I was still determined to try for a refurb. I went to the lobby the next morning and asked to be moved if anything came available. She said if our stuff could be pack quickly she could get us in a refurbished room-we were packed in 20 minutes and on the bus to Epcot while we aired for our room text! We love the new room. Even thought I would like more access to the table my kid called dibs on the Murphy. Something about it is very alluring. I love that shower BTW. The rain shower is so relaxing after walking my feet to tatters at Epcot.

I'm glad you got a new room! I told DD last night that we're going to Disney this weekend and staying at Pop - her first response was "I get the Pluto bed!"

She's going to be disappointed if we can't get a refurbed room! Fingers crossed.

I hope this is true! If we receive other confirmations we will update Post #2.

If anyone is at Disney now, can you please keep an eye out for Building 10 opening and Building 6 closing? Thanks!!

Rooms marked with a yellow line in the picture below are Preferred View rooms.PopCenturyMap2012RoomCategoriesFINAL.jpg

My vacation month's Disney Visa card billing cycle just started today so I just charged my final full payment for my Pop package. I'll soon be able to get my Disney Rewards put on my Rewards Redemption Card for my trip.

Now all I need is to request my room and do online check-in!! Just waiting on Building 10!

Can't believe we haven't gotten any word on it being close to opening soon. This can't happen quick enough for me. The suspense is killing me....

I have heard many reports at this point of people not getting refurbished rooms even if they made it their only request-it happened to us. Be willing to go down and ask to be move if one comes available and your chances shoot up.

Building 10 does not look done. It doesn't look far off-at least on the first floor I have know idea about floors 2-4- but the curtains are all pulled back with papers tacked on the Windows and no one is going in and out but workers

I'm sooooo hoping for building 10 to be done by early December! I would love a refurbed room but also I would really like to be between the parking lot and the classic hall. Best of both worlds since I don't really care to be by the pool and my feet are always so sore by the end of the day. We do have a preferred reservation so fingers crossed!

:coffee:Very stupid and silly question- I know that the new rooms have coffee makers.. do they supply coffee?
They do supply coffee, but during our 9 day stay last month, we had to ask for it every time (2 of those days it was a non-issue because of Irma), but it my experience they never remembered to restock it.
