Just back from Peru--awesome!

Glad to hear you loved it! Was it Chris Brown? This is one of our very favorite adventures. Wish I was at Sol Y Luna right now!

Yes, Chris Brown. Isn't he great? He and his magical backpack stocked with every conceivable item made our trip pretty close to perfect. Rudy Chalco was marvelous, too. And Sol y Luna--heavenly!

Chris Brown was one of the Guides on my first ABD (Arizona & Utah). He set my expectations pretty high! :)

Sayhello

We just got back from our Peru trip one year ago this week. Rudy was indeed amazing and the trip itself was unbelievably awesome. I hope you do a trip report just so we can use that to help remember some of the details from our trip.

Chris was our guide in SE Asia and he recommended the Peru trip to us. We actually changed the from the River Cruise to Peru while we were in Cambodia. If you loved this one, consider SE Asia. It is also AMAZING. Would love to hear more about your experience. I wish there would be more ABDs in S. America. I really loved experiencing Peru. It's an amazing place.

We had Chris this summer in Italy and he mentioned that he was going on to Peru. He's a fantastic guide and set the bar very high!

I think Peru and Ecuador are the 2 at the top of our list for 2019. Would love to hear any more impressions you have of this trip, especially if you went with kids?

We did both. They are actually similar for a portion of the tour (where you are in the mountains of Ecuador), and then Peru gets more archaeological/historical in nature as you visit all of the ruins, and Ecuador gets much more focused on snorkling and seeking out different types of animals. Almost like an island safari. So it depends what your kids are more interested in.

Sorry--I just now saw this! Our trip was adults-only. I went with my adult daughter.

Every aspect of this trip was marvelous. When I filled out the trip review questionnaire, my only suggestion was that the Lima hotel be changed back to one in Miraflores. Our Westin was a beautiful, comfortable hotel, but it was in San Isidro, which is more of a commercial district. It would have been so nice to be able to walk to Parque Kennedy, Larcomar, etc.

The whole trip was very active. I was coming off two injuries and an illness and didn't have a lot of energy, but Chris and Rudy were extremely accommodating to those of us who weren't in top physical condition. There was always transportation to take us wherever we needed to go. Four in our group skipped the river rafting, and Chris sent a taxi to pick us up at the hotel and take us to meet the rest of the group for lunch. Chris and Rudy handled everything so smoothly that we never felt like second-class travelers!

One aspect of the trip that surprised me was how good the food was. Every day included a buffet breakfast, always extensive and delicious. A couple of lunches, taken outdoors in beautiful settings, were catered and fantastic. I still dream about the lunch at Casa Aliaga on the last day. We were on our own for lunch in Cusco one day and stopped in at Inka Grill on the plaza. Their corn and cheese empanadas might have been the tastiest item I had on the whole trip.

One more thing: Don't believe the weather forecasts. Everybody in our group of 28 had been diligently checking the forecasts, and they indicated cold and rainy every day. (This was in late September.) Instead, it was HOT. Bring short sleeved shirts and sunscreen!

Adventures by Disney pulled out all the stops to make this the perfect trip, and Chris and Rudy were the perfect guides. No matter what happened, they always managed to be in a good mood. One of my favorite "Disney-does-it-all" moments: At Machu Picchu there was only one public restroom, and there was a charge of one Peruvian sol (about 33 cents) to use it. Chris stood outside the door and paid the 33 cents for each of us. It doesn't get more considerate than that!

Sounds like you had a great trip! I'm currently in the process of planning a Peru vacation on my own. One thing I'm struggling with is the time to spend at Machu Picchu. Most tour options only allow 3 hours there, which I believe is similar to the AbD trip. Were you satisfied that was enough time there or would you have preferred more time to wander on your own? I am debating between a 3 hour tour or doing it on our own, allowing for 5-6 hours at the site. I appreciate the help!

We would have loved more time at Machu Picchu on our ABD trip. Before lunch we were given a walk through of the main areas and after lunch we were faced with a few options on your own. We had one guide who took a group to the Guard House and then wandered around the main areas, a small group of us went with another guide and hiked up to the Moon Gate and a few over achievers hiked up to the Sun Gate. If you only want to do the Guard House and the main area it might be enough time but for those of us that went to the Moon or Sun Gate then didn't have time to linger in the ruins after our hike. It would have been wonderful to do that extra hike and still have additional time to wander a bit.

Glad to hear you had a "magical" trip. Like others it is one trip that is a "must". Looking forward to more info on the trip. Thanks.
