Frightfully Fun October Exercise Challenge

No new color changes today, but some nice additional minutes that are really adding up!

@PollyannaMom , thanks for sharing your like of Halloweentown. The next movie up is Halloweentown II, released in 2001. Do you like it as well?

"Screen legend Debbie Reynolds portrays the grandmother of a teenage witch in the Disney Channel Original Movie, Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge. The film is the first sequel in a series of four films adapted from the original Disney production of Halloweentown.

The grand-daughter, Marnie (Kimberly J. Brown), has unknowingly allowed her grandmother's book of magical spells to fall into the hands of Kal (Daniel Kountz), who turns out to be the warlock son of Kalabar, a fearsome demon. When Aggie, the grandmother, begins noticing unusual magical activity, she becomes suspicious and, with Marnie in tow, depart for Halloweentown to investigate and try to rectify the situation. Upon arrival, they discover that the town has been transformed (via black magic) into a nightmarish version of all things "Halloween."

The film is directed by Mary Lambert, whose resume includes music videos and television as well as feature films, primarily in the horror genre." (DISDB)

This trailer makes me want to give it a try:

And because I've got a few too many movies to get through and too few days left, the next movie on the list was THE POOF POINT, but I'll skip it because the little I've found about it makes me wonder why it's even on the Disney Halloween list.

So, moving on to 2002, we have THE SCREAM TEAM. This one is rated G and sounds like it might be a good one. "Restless ghosts with unfinished earthly business are sentenced to a small New Hampshire town until they can deem themselves worthy to enter heaven. The Carlyle children discover a slew of good-intended, yet misguided ghosts who just need a little direction." (DISDB) The cast includes Kathy Najimy who also stars in Hocus Pocus.

My last post made me realize we're getting down to the end of this month. I cannot believe how quickly it has gone by. Anyone up for hosting November?

Congrats to our two color changers today! Elizabeth Smith has reached 75% of goal and PRECIOUS PRINCESSES PINK, and sophy1996 has reached 90% of goal and is at VAMPIRE RED!!!! Great job! :stitch::stitch::stitch::stitch::stitch:

We have finally come to the other Halloween movie that shares its name with a Disney attraction. You've guessed it! THE HAUNTED MANSION! The Haunted Mansion was released in 2003 and stars Eddie Murphy. In this movie somewhat based on the famous ride, the "Evers family needed a little quality time together, but what they didn't need was quality time with a floating head in a crystal ball. Ghosts, dark secrets, and mysterious characters transform their tranquil family outing into a ghoulish night they'll never forget." (DISDB) According to a Disney trivia tumblr post, here is a list of ride references found in the movie:

  • The singing busts in the graveyard
  • The breathing door (even the doorknob is the same)
  • Madame Leota (and the spectral instruments)
  • The busts that follow Jim
  • The ghostly carriage (based on the prop outside the ride)
  • The old man and the dog in the cemetery (although in the movie they are ghosts)
  • Master Gracy’s hanging
  • The ghostly ballroom dancers
  • The raven
  • The hitchhiking ghosts
  • The morphing pictures in the hallway
  • The floating candelabra
  • The bride’s dress in the attic
  • The screeching cat sound effect in graveyard scene
  • The skeleton’s hands that start to open coffin in the mausoleum
  • The knights in the hallway attacking Jim
  • The door knockers heard rapping in the bedroom hallway
  • The pipe-organ in the ballroom
  • The clock striking 13
  • Several lines throughout the movie that are also used in the ride’s narration, such as: “Welcome, foolish mortals”, “Final arrangements have been made”, and “There’s always my way”
I happen to love the ride, so I am definitely adding this one to my must watch list - hopefully in the next few days, but definitely before our January trip. It appears the movie has its share of haters, but the trailer shows some of the references listed above and that's good enough to lure me in!

20-minute walk - it's snowing!

900/1000

Enjoy the snow!!!!! How exciting! Wish you would send it here. I'm like Lorelai Gilmore when it comes to snow. Guess it's because we don't get enough of it.

We're supposed to drop temps by quite a bit throughout the day tomorrow. Sadly, it's just going to be a really cold rain, though, and I will be out in it. Ick! Gotta locate my vacation poncho before heading out there.

No color changes today, but we only need 49 more minutes until the team reaches 90% of our goal. We can do this!!!! I'll go ahead and list a few more Halloween movies to keep us motivated. Next up are HALLOWEENTOWN HIGH (2004), TWITCHES (2005 - title refers to twin witches), and POOH's HEFFALUMP HALLOWEEN MOVIE (2006). Taking a look at the Pooh movie, DISDB tells us, "Few people love Halloween candy more than Winnie the Pooh! However, when Tigger warns everyone about a monster who turns unsuspecting trick-or-treaters into jackolanterns, Lumpy, Pooh, and Roo think twice about venturing out for sweet treats. Will their sweet tooth get the best of them and cause them to risk becoming a jackolantern in exchange for some sugary goodness?"

Here's a sweet trailer to warm your hearts on this cold night:
