Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER RESORT Information & Questions

Recommended always to fax. Of course it is still just a request but we've always been lucky and received pixie dust!
I'm going to send a fax for my next trip (not for awhile yet, but never too soon to put it on the to do list so I don't forget). All I really want is to try and get a room early as we will be arriving early. Again, I know that it is a request and all of that and I have a backup plan if the room is not ready, no big deal. Just would make life a heck of a lot easier.

Also, a food court question. Depending on the website I look at, it can be a bit different. From what I see, the "meat and three" option (Southern Classics i think they call it) may only be available during dinner hours. Is this right? What about the make your own rice bowls? Are they available for lunch? Trying to see what options I have that I can actually eat there due to allergies and other food restrictions.

@LilyWDW We were generally out for lunch so it's hard to remember - we had the salad when we were there at lunch - but on the official Disney menu they are on for both lunch and dinner. My DD had the rice bowl with shrimp quite often and DH loved the ribs +3! They were very helpful with changing out items to suit specific needs. Are you on the QSDP?

We are not doing the dining plan on this trip, just paying out of pocket. When we did the math it simply did not add up for us.

Only on our arrival day do you plan to be at the resort for lunch. Our options will be to eat there or just head down to Disney Springs since we will be going there anyway and have a dinner planned for Raglan Road that evening. So just trying to see what my options would be at the resort vs other spots.

Does Sassagoula still have prime rib? My husband had it on one of our trips earlier this year and was looking forward to it again in January but I don't see it on the menu. Was it maybe seasonal? Thanks!

Both of those options are Dinner-only, as that counter (the second one along from the left) is closed at lunchtimes.

We arrive in 2 weeks! I just set up my fax request on Touring Plans. I had no idea how to word it, so I just tried to be nice, but succinct. We put in for room 4335 specifically, with the other garden-view facing corner rooms in building 4 as the secondary choices. My mom has mobility issues, so building 4's proximity to transportation was the biggest draw. I hope we picked a good room! And I hope we get double windows either way!!

Good luck - let us know how you do. Have you stayed before? No building is very far but we love 2 or 5 when the grandchildren are with us to be extra close to the pool. We found a new route to/from transportation through 5 then 4 - only saved a minute but on return from the park saved going through the lobby doors with the stroller!

Thank you!! I will. I'm going to do a trip report, too :) My pre-trip report would basically read like this: "I HAVE ANXIETY AND I WANT THIS TO BE PERFECT" -- so i'm skipping on that, hehe. Once we're there, the "go with the flow" will set in.

This is our first time at POFQ. It's actually our first time at a moderate! We've been to WDW 13 times, but it was always at Vacation Club villas. Live-in nannies for a wealthy couple... who can complain about that!! Their home resort was Boardwalk, so 60% of the trips were there. Once at Yacht, once at Beach, once at a huuuge villa at OKW, once Wilderness Lodge.

ONE trip was at one of the Values, but I was too young to recall the specific resort now. That was just our family, so it was a budget trip.

That said, all of those trips were almost 10 years ago since sadly, the kids we nannied did eventually grow up. Now, i've just turned 30 years old and I decided... you know what!! It's my turn to treat mom and my aunt (secondary parent figure.) So POFQ was the best I could afford. Everything i've read (and i've read A LOT) has made me think this might even be better than a deluxe to me. Short of the extra square footage in the room, I think having "outdoor hallways" instead of "endless claustrophobic carpet trudges" sounds really nice.

I think you'll really enjoy POFQ! It was the first WDW resort I ever visited, when I was a kid at 10, and I remembered loving it then. Even knowing there are so many resorts to stay at, I was pretty pleased when my friends and I decided to stay there again for my return visit to WDW (I stayed at POR for one trip in between, back when it was still Dixie Landings). I was still so pleased with it! I live in a city, so for me, having the open design was a huge perk because it wasn't just another building with hotel rooms in it. I really enjoy the grounds, the design and the theme. I'm sure we'll want to try a new place on a next visit but I would be perfectly fine with making POFQ my mainstay, I like it that much!

I too was very anxious about our recent visit as I wanted it to be "perfect" for our grandchildren - one with special needs who had visited once aged 3/4 and his little sister first visit aged 3.
I did so much planning and note taking! I admit it did help to have the knowledge but I also learnt to go with the flow when needed as we were aware DGS may need more breaks or change of pace.
Day 1 we didn't complete our plans but returned to resort and had a great time in the pool, playground etc.
Epcot day was also not perfect with boisterous high crowds due to F&W - we left DD and family to complete some countries and return to POFQ and we got the monorail to the Poly and then GF for a wander and a drink. It was really nice not to always follow a plan!
We had a few occasions of pixie dust and it must have been a success for them as they are still talking about it every day!

Well boo. Thanks for the information and clarity, I appreciate it. Looks like I will be pushing for heading to Disney Springs as there are so few things I can have for lunch then.

When we stayed at Riverside we went to Disney Springs for most of our meals. Pick some places you want to try, view menus, and look at maps to figure out how to get there. It was big and confusing at first, but we really liked it! The boat ride is relaxing and the food options are great. I'm glad the resorts have cafeterias, but you will definitely have more options elsewhere. :)

I know Wolfgang Puck's Express, Blaze Pizza, and Earl of Sandwich all have a bunch of options for me. So my vote will be for Disney Springs, but a lot will depend on what time we get in, if our room is ready, and how tired we are when we arrive. I am hoping to get in between 10AM and 11AM (we are driving and the second part of the trip is only about 3 hours) and I am only making one request and that is for first available Garden View room. No other room requests.

I'm just down to about 3 options at POFQ for lunch (burger, chicken sandwich, and create your own pasta) and would like more variety.

I sure hope so!! Thanks, experiences like yours make me feel much better about the choice!

I keep seeing this phrase! Every time we've been to WDW the customer service has always been fantastic (unlike DL...), and the "Pixie Dust" phrase seems more recent than our last trip. Maybe we'll get some! But honestly, so long as the customer service is as good as it once was, i'm going to be perfectly happy with the trip.

My mom has a capsaicin allergy that began only recently due to medication complications. We've been learning to navigate around the new allergy, and the Special Diets page on the Disney site was pretty helpful and indicated that MOST restaurants are going to have or could make certain "normal" allergies and diets (vegetarian, etc) feel welcome. I wonder if the limitation at Sassagoula's is just because it's a cafeteria?

Our plan is to take the boat to Disney Springs for a couple of meals, The Boathouse and Homecomin are my first choices! I really enjoyed taking the boat to DS when we stayed at POR a few years ago.

They were really good at providing plain meat/rice/pasta/vegetables/fruit etc to suit our needs.

Plain is the problem!! We're all adventurous eaters and mom gets so down-in-the-dumps if her allergy winds up getting a bland plate of food set in front of her. Hopefully we'll get good/helpful servers that will be willing to talk through it a little bit.

So excited to have booked another stay at FQ, 3 nights in January. It's been about a year since our last stay and I have really missed it. I cancelled our room at YC and moved us to FQ on New Year's Day. I'll be glad to be able to walk out to the resort after New Year's Eve but after that, FQ will suit better. Frankly I think the bus service will be better too.

Please let post about your room request (or feel free to send me an inbox). My mom has mob ility issues, so I'm curious to know how room requests work out.

Thanks!

So someone mentioned Touring Plans can fax it out (I honestly had no idea) and I have that, so I went there and configured it. This is what they had on their customize page and what I put for mine. I will have to update you closer to Thanksgiving whether or not it worked!! Everything below was automated except the bit under "Additional Special Requests," and i'm not even really sure I did that right, I just wanted to seem like a human. This is all new to me - never did this on our trips before!

Hello! We would really love a corner room on the third floor. 4335 seems great! Building 4 would be ideal as one of our party has a mobility limitation and the proximity to transportation would be very helpful. Our reservation is for a garden view room. Thank you so much for your help!
