Hello every one and welcome to my first Walt Disney World Trip Report, "Let's Bring It Back from the Beginning, Start from the Top!"

If you want to see all my agonizing about planning this trip, look HERE for my PTR!

My name is Elizabeth and I will be your host on this look back on my first journey in over ten years to the World.

Favorite Park: MK
Favorite Ride: Splash Mountain
Favorite Restaurant: Ohana
Favorite Characters: Pooh and the gang, Chip and Dale

Along with me on this trip were my husband Jacob:

Favorite Park: MK
Favorite Ride: Haunted Mansion
Favorite Restaurant: Ohana
Favorite Characters: Goofy and Donald

And my older brother Kyle:

Favorite Park: Epcot
Favorite Ride: Haunted Mansion
Favorite Restaurant: Homecomin'
Favorite Characters: Mickey Mouse, Peter Pan, and Robin Hood

Kyle arrived in WDW on 11/13/17 and we arrived the next day 11/14/17. Kyle left on 11/18/17 and we left 11/21/17.

We all stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter and loved it!

Though, we did not spend too much time there. We were rope-drop to fireworks vacationers every day just about and every day was jam packed with Disney goodness.

We used the Disney Dining Plan this trip and enjoyed absolutely gorging ourselves on Disney food. I had met my goal of losing 20 pounds before our trip began, but despite all the walking, I still managed to gain 4 pounds back! Oh well, it was totally worth it! I would do it again and again.

This trip was for no reason in particular other that just really wanting to go and missing the magic from my last trip. This trip certainly met and exceeded expectations, so don't expect too many snafus or bad experiences in this trip report (though no vacation would be complete without one or two...) This trip brought back all the warm memories of my last family vacation and ushered in many more new memories for us. This was my husband's first time (unless you count when he was 2 and doesn't remember) so it was extra special. He already looks forward to when we can go back again.

So get ready to read all about a trip of a lifetime for me and my husband and (I hope) the start of many more family Disney trips for the two of us (and any other kiddos who may come along the way)!

Day 0 and Day 1 Part 1 Travels -- "I can't sleep!"
So, as I mentioned, my brother arrived in Disney a day ahead of us and decided to spend his first day at Epcot. His flight left Cincinnati around 8:50am an he was in the park around 1 pm.
38869508082_d38f13c82b.jpg

He took this photo upon arrival.
Now, Kyle is not much of a trip reporter, but I know that he rode Soarin', Test Track, Journey into Imagination with Figment, Livin' with the Land, the Seas with Nemo and Friends and probably more than that. He also had dinner at Via Napoli.
Here is his Test Track photo from that night.

He also got one Photo Pass Photo that evening, at my request.

Meanwhile, I was slogging through my last night at work. At 8:30pm, I finally got off and it was time to drive to Cincinnati so my parents could watch my doggy.

The next morning, Jacob and I were up bright and early (after getting just about no sleep, I was waaaaayyy too excited) and on the road to the airport at 6:15. My dad drove us and took us through the McDonald's drive thru for a breakfast sandwich.

We made it through security about 40 minutes before boarding.

When we finally got on the plane, it was mostly empty. And we were able to move to the emergency row with all the extra leg room. And I had an empty seat next to me too!

When we arrived in Orlando, it wasn't long before we got on our first ride, the airport shuttle!

And we were quickly in line for the Magical Express!

And we're off!

Hooray!

We were the second to last stop after Saratoga Springs and Old Key West. I think we made it to our resort around noon. It was only an hour and a half from us landing before we dropped our bags with bell services and we were on our way to meet Kyle at the Magic Kingdom!

Day 1 Part 2--Just a Taste of the Magic
I'll take a brief moment here to cover what Kyle had ridden and experienced that morning before we arrived. He rode it's a small world, Haunted Mansion, saw Country Bear Jamboree and Mickey's Philharmagic, and rode Pirates of the Caribbean and Seven Dwarves Mine Train. He had a pretty productive morning, all things considered. Here are his ride photos:

We, DH and I, arrived in the Magic Kingdom at 12:30 and immediately found my brother waiting on a bench for us at the Train Station. To really emphasize what great luck we had, as soon as we arrived at the bus station at our resort, a MK bus pulled up. From the time our plane landed to the time we entered the Magic Kingdom was less than 2 hours.
Kyle was oddly kind of wet? He had gotten blasted by a rogue cannon ball on Pirates! He was insistent on getting lunch, and I wasn't sure since we were going to be having Liberty Tree later on and it's all you care to eat, and I care to eat a lot. I made some suggestions of options I had heard was good QS. I started by suggesting Pecos Bill's. I kind of wanted to get the Country Bears souvenir jug anyway, but my bro. shot that down. (and just so you know, I never made it to Pecos Bill's for a souvenir jug). Then I suggested Casey's Corner. My brother shot that down saying that he heard it was a good "4th meal." All the while we are having this conversation, I'm taking selfies galore.

So we ended up at Pinocchio's Village House.
But first, we stopped to take some pictures together in front of Cinderella's Castle.

At Pinocchio's Village House, I decided I didn't want to use a QS credit, so DH and I just got snacks. We ordered bread sticks and french fries, which were okay. Helped soothe my hunger until the real deal later that night. We sat upstairs because it was fairly crowded downstairs and there was literally no one else up there. It was cool to look down on the rest of the restaurant and I felt like a real insider knowing that there was seating space up there.

My brother ordered a flatbread pizza, which he said was pretty good.

After this I was ready to go! My first request was to ride Dumbo the Flying Elephant, which is to me the epitome of Disney.

We waited only a few minutes, and then we were off!
Next we stopped to ride Under the Sea with the Little Mermaid, since the line was short. I got the high honor of carrying the little red wait time card.

Under the Sea was pretty bland, I think. But the huge Ursula animatronic stunned me. She was sooooo HUGE! And the way her chin moved was uncanny.
Then, it was just about time for the Festival of Fantasy Parade, so we grabbed a spot along the edge of Liberty Square and Frontier Land. We hadn't camped out or anything, so we didn't have the best view, but we are all tall so still got to see just about everything.

Unfortunately, the dragon was not breathing fire today. We were able to catch a glimpse in passing later that week of the fire working though. So at least I saw it at some point on the trip.
Then we caught our first glimpse of the mouse himself! I may have screamed out to him in excitement.

Overall, I was not super into the parade. The song was catchy, for sure, and the floats were imaginative, but I guess it wasn't my cup of tea. At this point I wasn't sure if my husband was bought in just yet, but as time progressed that evening, the magic sunk into all of us!

I think I will leave things here for now. Next time, you will get to see what we were able to do before our dinner reservation at 5:15!

Day 1 Part 3-- Walk-on City
I totally forgot to mention this previously, but while DH and I were on the Magical Express to our resort, we got a call offering us to forgo housekeeping in exchange for a $60 gift card, based on our length of stay. So, we thought it over throughout the day and at some point, we called back and decided to opt out of housekeeping and get a gift card emailed to us! My brother got the same kind of offer, but he decided to keep housekeeping.

Anyway, back to where we were, we decided to head back into Fantasyland after the parade. I wanted to ride the Carousel, as I love Carousels.

I always like to play this game on Carousels where we see who's horse finished highest in the air. So as the ride slows, I always get anxious to see if I'll be the one on top! And we all finished at the same height. Womp womp.
Then we made our way to the teacups. I got the red wait time card again, but it felt pointless because we literally walked right up.

If you are wondering why his face looks so tense. . . It's because this was our knee situation.

We were so packed in, we really struggled to close the door, but that did not prevent the three of us from trying to spin the cup as fast as we possibly could!
Kyle had made a 4th fast pass when he finished with the ones he had made for himself that morning. It was for. . . Buzz Lightyear!

I did abysmally bad. DH and I only made Space Ranger 1st class. Kyle gave us a hard time because he got Space Ace.

To be fair, Kyle looks much more focused and intense than we do!
After this, we hit up the Carousel of Progress, and we all got the song stuck in our heads. "There's a great big beautiful tomorrow. . . " I sang that song ALL WEEK.
After that, we finished our brief tour of Tomorrowland with a trip around on the People Mover.

Even though Kyle had already ridden it's a small world that morning, I wanted to do it, and he was happy to oblige! So we trekked back in to Fantasyland. And I took tons of pictures. The ride is just so idyllic.

We actually got kind of stalled at the end bit for a while, which is actually something I notice pretty much always happens with Disney's boat rides, but the ending is so nice and pretty, of course I didn't mind. The little screens that read off your name skipped me though, which hurt my feelings a little. My brother and Jacob's names were on the screen, but not mine. I think, because I was wearing an old Magic Band. It was also funny, because apparently in my brother's MDE, he has his name as "Stephen," which is his first name and no one calls him that. So the screen was a total fail for the three of us. LOL.

. . .

Day 1 Part 4-- Our first waits
So far we had not had to wait for much of anything, but as we passed by Seven Dwarves Mine Train, and the line was "only" 40 minutes, we decided we would. Kyle had enjoyed the ride so much when he rode it earlier in the day, he did not mind the wait. And though we are certainly not the intended demographic for the queue games, we certainly engaged with them. I liked the water fountain organ quite a lot. And we spun the barrels inside the Vault quite enthusiastically.

Here I am, stealing the key on the way in.
The wait certainly was a true 40 minutes, but with the various diversions in the queue, it did not feel that way at all and before we knew it, we were off!

We are hands up kinds of people.

But apparently Kyle got kind of tired on the way down, lol.
Anyway, it was quickly approaching 5:15 now, which meant it was time for our reservation. I'm pretty sure we checked in a few minutes late, and we waited probably 20 minutes to be seated. Honestly, this wait felt longer than our wait for 7DMT. Jacob and I used the opportunity to take some quick photos by the mantle.

We did eventually get seated. And then it was time to wait for the salad.

Here's the salad. You'll see Kyle's resort mug on the table. He had filled it that morning with Hot Cocoa but didn't want to walk all the way back to his room, so he just brought it along. He promptly forgot it at Liberty Tree. Everyone say good bye to Kyle's mug!

Then the main course came. This was all very good, except for the Mac and Cheese which was flavorless. But the mashed potatoes were some of the best I had and were a great start to a wonderful mashed potato streak at WDW.
Then came the Ooey Gooey Toffee cake. I didn't have time to take a picture of it before it was gone. Then I over heard some one at another table ask our waiter if he could bring her two, and he explained that she wouldn't have to pay extra for it, etc., because it was all you care to eat. And I then relayed this information (which I already knew), to my brother, who was shocked.
And I told him, "We can tell him to bring it all back from the beginning!" And this caused my brother to die laughing. And we joked about this for a minute. I said, "Let's start from the top!" And now you can stop reading my report because you know where the title comes from.
Nonetheless, we asked the waiter to bring us more of the cake. And Jacob went to try to use the restroom. Kyle and I schemed that if they brought the cake out in time, we would just eat it ourselves and tell Jacob that they hadn't brought it yet, then order a third one. But Jacob came back too soon because there was a line at the bathroom and he didn't feel like waiting.
Our waiter offered us another table's much bigger toffee cake (they had like 6 people in their party) and it was actually very tempting. But we restrained ourselves.
After taking forever to settle our check, we made our way out into the now dark Magic Kingdom. The Christmas Party would be starting very soon and we didn't yet have our party wrist bands. But of course, Jacob and Kyle had to go to the bathroom and Kyle specifically wanted to use the Tangled bathrooms. Okay.... So I waited outside for them while I go harassed by cast members about the wristbands. (Just kidding, they were all really nice about it). When they finally got out of the bathroom, we went and snagged our wristbands and we were ready to party!

Joining! So far our first day looks great!

I wasn't sure since we were going to be having Liberty Tree later on and it's all you care to eat, and I care to eat a lot.
 Yup! I always care to eat a lot, but I SUPER care to eat a lot when we're in Disney :D

Seven Dwarves Mine Train, and the line was "only" 40 minutes, we decided we would.
I would've done it, too, 40 minutes is really good for a during the day 7DMT wait.

Then came the Ooey Gooey Toffee cake
:cloud9:

Look forward to reading more!

Day 1 Part 5 -- Why is Clarabelle Cow so Sexy?
Sorry it's been a month since my last update. Considering it was the holidays and all, I feel excused. Now it's time to pick up where I left off! Jacob was unsurprisingly heading back to the restroom, so while my brother and I waited on him, we considered what we might want to do. Maybe meet a character, ride a ride? (Jacob spends legendarily long times in the bathroom). But we couldn't agree on what to do so we opted to just shop around.

So, by this point in time, we were needing to gear up to catch Mickey's Most Merriest Celebration's first showing at 7:40 (we lost a lot of time with Jacob's restroom break and shopping around, but it was great to just soak up Fantasyland and the castle). So we found a spot in front of the castle. . .

We were pretty close. I believe we were standing pretty close to the partner's statue. Anyway, the show started and I found it kind of. . . out of touch. The show revolved around Daisy using her cell phone to call Donald to come to the party. Something about it was a weird concept. I like vintage Disney, so the introduction of modern technology into the show felt kind of hamfisted. I liked it, though, so please don't get me wrong here. It just didn't have the classic Disney feel. :confused3

The non-Character members of the cast were VERY good. I loved their singing and dancing and they all looked very elegant as they danced. There was something very Christmas-y about their costumes.
What was NOT Christmas-y was Clarabelle cow's version of "All I want for Christmas is You."

She's kind of an obscure character to begin with, but then she was like REALLY sexy. It was hilarious! I loved her and wished the whole show was her doing Mariah Carey covers.
At the end of the show, a large portion of the crowd thinned out and we were able to scoot up closer to the castle for Frozen Holiday Wish at 8:15. I didn't really get any photos of the show because, TBH, my phone was dead at this point and I had to get Jacob to take all my photos for me. Here's a picture of us in front of the castle after Elsa lit it back up.

After Elsa, we were able to scoot even more, and we were just about up to the edge of the Parade route. So we watched the first parade in front of the castle!

Clarabelle was a little more wholesome on her float, but even still, she could help herself from twerking a little bit up there!

This was my favorite part of the parade. The tin soldiers toward the end were absolutely mesmerizing. The sound of their feet clomping on the ground was perfect and satisfying in a way that's impossible to explain. I hope anyone else who has seen them understands!
Then, we finally left our spot in front of the Castle where we had been parked for over an hour to go see the Totally Tomorrowland Christmas show. It was cute, I suppose, but I don't really much care for the Tomorrowland Characters. We caught the last few bits of the Voice Play Acapella show. (Or I should say I caught it, because my cohorts were, you guessed it, in the bathroom AGAIN! Lol. I promise I won't mention every time we went to the bathroom). They were really good. Anyway, here's a picture of the end of the Tomorrowland Christmas Show.

I have to admit, though, Stitch in the Santa suit is really cute!
So, guess where we headed next? Right back to the Castle for the 10 o'clock Holiday Wishes show. We were in such a good spot that Jacob and I were actually able to see the whole show sitting down. My pictures of the fireworks weren't so great, but I must say I was BLOWN AWAY by these fireworks. I have never seen fireworks so big before in my life, I could swear. I was so starry eyed and I just about wanted to cry.

These pictures absolutely do no justice to the show. Apologies, apologies.
After this, we decided to go ride Space Mountain. There was no line. <3 <3 This moment on the trip just opened my eyes again. I don't know what was wrong with me all day, but for some reason maybe I just felt like I was going through the motions and not really slowing down to appreciate what was happening. Space Mountain just really struck me with Imagineering wonder.

I feel like you can tell from this picture my true delight. Kyle looks like he's just trying to be polite or something, lol.
So, after this, we did more stuff that there is no photographic evidence of. LOL. We went through Fantasyland and stopped at the Winnie the Pooh ride since it was a walk on and we hadn't done it yet. And then we made it to our first ride on Haunted Mansion! Again, no wait. This was the nail in the coffin (haha, a death joke) for me loving everything about Disney and knowing I would want to come back SOON. This ride is the epitome of Disney magic to me. The ballroom scene is so incredibly impressive, and I almost don't want to know how they made that because it's more fun to just accept it's really a Haunted Mansion. And then we had the BEST luck. As we were coming out, we were able to catch the last bit of the 2nd parade as it passed by Liberty Square. Which meant I got to
see my tin soldiers again! And Santa Clause.
Then we went to the pin store in Frontierland to get some MVMCP pins.

By this time we were getting a little weary. Midnight was approaching and we had all been up since early in the morning. Kyle, of course, had been at MK since Rope Drop with no hotel break or anything.
We got a few pictures in front of the castle:

I had a mission though, before we left, to get a post card at the Emporium for a lovely couple at my parent's church who had sent me a card with some souvenir money for the trip. I wanted to send them a thank you card from Disney. And I found it, but I made Jacob stand in the long check out line. He also got us an exclusive MVMCP ornament. Meanwhile, I enjoyed the sights and sounds of Main Street. And got a photo pass picture. And Kyle? I'll let you guess where he was.

And we were on our way out for the night!

Tomorrow we would start out an early day at Epcot!

Following along, love your writing style because you’re so funny! Planning to go November 2018 so this is great to give me an idea of what to expect. Definitely want to do liberty tavern!

Day 2 Part 1 -- Getting Embarrassingly Starstruck
We began the day with meeting Kyle at Sassagoula Float Works for breakfast. With the use of 1 snack credit, Jacob and I ordered 6 beignets. Kyle, well, he did the same. And he didn't have any trouble eating all of his by himself!

He still had powdered sugar on himself by the time we got on the bus. Let's be honestly, he probably had some kind of sugar residue on him all day, but c'est la vie at Disney. After breakfast, we were on the bus to Epcot to make it to Rope Drop. We made a bit of a mistake and decided to change our Frozen fast pass to an earlier available fast pass for. . . Soarin', I think. We thought if we changed to an earlier fast pass, then we could get a rolling fourth fast pass later. This was a mistake because Soarin' didn't ever really have that long of a standby line and we had to wait a while for Frozen in the morning. (But honestly, nothing mattered because we did everything we planned to do that day and more).
Anyway, we walked into Epcot at roughly 8:53. And here's my first picture of Spaceship Earth.

We hoofed it as fast as we could to Norway and we were out pacing many of the slower walkers, but nevertheless, we still had to wait like 20 minutes or more. I didn't much care, because I like the queue a lot. Here's Jacob getting excited about Northern Europe.

And me, being wary of the Duke of Weselton! Watch out!

I only took one photo on Frozen Ever After. It was this picture of Olaf.

I don't even really like Olaf that much. :confused3 My favorite part, I'm embarrassed to admit, is when you ride into the area where Elsa is up on the balcony singing her most famous tune. I got chills and a little misty eyed. Her animatronic was staggering. It was like she really was there. And I knew Maelstrom had a part where you get sent backward, but for some reason it didn't really register with me that the actual ride would be the same. So for some dumb reason I was surprised when she sent us down backward. It was a #amazingexperience. It's sad that you can only have a first experience with something once. . .
Anyway, after this ride, Jacob had to go somewhere so Kyle and I went in the Norway shop and got a pic of me and this handsome devil.

And when Jacob rejoined us, we decided to get some second breakfast at the Norwegian bakery. Jacob was entranced by the lefsa, but I had a mission to get the school bread, because of the people on this website's very mixed opinion of it.

My review? Good.
What was better, though, was the cup of water they gave us. I suppose they were still trying to get rid of Halloween cups so we got a HUGE free water. I am easy to please.
So, we headed to our first fast pass, which was Spaceship Earth. I believe we made it fairly close to the pass's expiration at 10:30.

As soon as we wrapped up looking at our future, we zipped over to Mission Space for our next fast pass. Here I am appreciating various moon landing sites.

We elected to undergo the more intense mission. They REALLY want you to know how violently sick, disoriented, and dead it may potentially make you. But I ain't no wimp, so we were briefed and ready for our mission.

We wanted Kyle to be the engineer, since he's the engineer irl, but Jacob wound up as the engineer and we all made it out okay. One of my favorite parts were all of the switches everywhere. Before we got started on our actual tasks, we all enjoyed hitting buttons and flipping switches. Kyle especially enjoyed this since he was next to the empty seats. He had twice as many buttons to touch.
After a successful landing on Mars, we briefly looked in Mousegears.

(For the sake of this report, you can just about assume any time we're in a store like this, someone is in the bathroom).
Then, we prepared for the moment of truth: meeting the Mouse himself. The legend, our Rodent God, Mickey Mouse.

I was so starstruck, I just stood there like an idiot with my stupid mouth gaping open. What can I say?
I managed to compose myself a little but before meeting Goofy and we actually had a nice chat with him.

The boys let us girls get a picture together. She's such a fashion icon.

My brother was skeptical about doing character meets, but after this experience, we were all on a kind of weird high. And as such, we had the munchies and decided it was a good time to make our way to lunch. Of course, we stopped for a picture on the way.

We ate lunch at Tangerine Cafe.
Please pardon me, lady in the background, I honestly wasn't trying to get a picture of your bottom, just a picture of the cool table! (I didn't even notice her until just now. . .)

I held down the table while Jacob and Kyle ordered the food. I got the platter with chicken and lamb. In fact, I think we all did. And it was amazing.

I highly, highly recommend this QS place. It's a great value for Dining Plan or out of pocket, because there's definitely enough to share, especially if you're a normal person who doesn't view a WDW vacation as an excuse to eat like some kind of wild animal just discovering food for the first time. . .

Looks like a great day and night at MK, how fun!
It was! Thanks for reading!

Following along, love your writing style because you’re so funny! Planning to go November 2018 so this is great to give me an idea of what to expect. Definitely want to do liberty tavern!
Thank you! I think November is a great time to go because you get all the Christmas cheer without all the crowds. I would recommend Liberty Tree, but if you can't get it, there are other good restaurants in MK and on the monorail line that look interesting to me too!

We are headed to POFQ in 2-1/2 weeks!!!! I can't wait to try the beignets. How were they? Any other food suggestions from the food quart there?

we still had to wait like 20 minutes or more. I didn't much care, because I like the queue a lot. Here's Jacob getting excited about Northern Europe.
I think we need to do this on our trip. We have only done the fastness line. I want to see Wanderen Oaken's Trading Post.

Great Pic! You guys all look so happy!

Please pardon me, lady in the background, I honestly wasn't trying to get a picture of your bottom, just a picture of the cool table! (I didn't even notice her until just now. . .)
ha! The table is really nice! It would make a great backyard patio table!

Day 2 Part 2 -- Tour of the World
What would be next after a very satisfying lunch? How about some shopping in Japan? I had very much been looking forward to this. First stop was for Kyle to do the very predictable thing of trying on a kimono.

I really enjoyed the Studio Ghibli products. It was a very tempting section as I love Totoro.

I didn't buy anything, but Jacob certainly didn't help. He picked up just about everything in the store and asked me if I liked it. The answer was almost always "yes" but I wasn't interested in purchasing. After a while, I just told Jacob to assume I liked everything and I would be sure to tell him when I wanted something. LOL.
When we left the Japan shop, we popped into their kawaii exhibit, which covers "cute culture" in Japan.

It really was very cute.
We passed by the drummers on our way to the American Pavilion.

The American Pavilion is really pretty and simple on the inside. I made the boys get a picture together by the Christmas tree.

Then we headed into propaganda-fest. This picture makes it look waaayy more crowded than it really was.

What can I say? I love America, and I got a little misty at this show, even though it kind of glossed over some of our most unfortunate history. The song was in our heads for most of the day and pride was in our hearts. I really loved the show.
Next, we were on our way to China for "Reflections of China." We stopped in Italy for some reason. And we caught a bit of the street performer.

We did make it to China with plenty of time to spare. And so I snagged this lovely shot of my boy in front of the building.

We were able to kind of tour around the Shanghai Disneyland exhibit, which was nice to look at. Kyle informed me that he heard it doesn't do very well. Does anyone have a clue?

Tangled is my favorite princess movie so I really admired this mosaic. If I remember right, this is a scale model of a much larger mosaic in Shanghai.

After some browsing and a little waiting, Reflections of China began. I enjoyed the show, but of course it will be much better when they replace it with a true 360 degree screen. Jacob loved the show and was quoting it for the next. . . month.
Then, we made our way around to complete our brief tour of the World Showcase with the Mexico Pavilion.

And of course, we rode The Three Caballeros.

Now for the portion of the day during which we walked around A LOT as a result of very loose plans. . .
