What makes you feel old?

Working with people that are young enough to be my actual children. Realizing ‘wow, I’m old enough to be her mom’ really hurt, considering I like to think of myself as part of the gang. Nope. I should be serving them milk and cookies LOL

Or working with people who are YOUNGER than your children. Or working with people whose parents are YOUNGER than you. Or working FOR people who weren't even born when you started in this industry.

Anything to do with a FAX machine..........and remembering how excited we were in 1980 getting our first fax machine at work. And in 2017 having to each a 25 year old how to use it.
Most recently fighting with our IT department over whether they should hook up the FAX phone line to our new business hub copier. Having to point out that our health insurance carrier and flexible spending plan ONLY accept claims via FAX. Pointing out that most of the courts still only accept FAXed media requests. Well, there is ONE court that still isn't even in the FAX age, they require all documents to either be sent via US Mail or be hand delivered, but given they are 70 miles from our office, hand deliver isn't easy.

I went into Hot Topic to get my niece a gift card. I had never been in there, but MAN they have some cute stuff. I saw a dress that I, a 39 year old, liked. I told the young, teenage, cashier that it was really cute. Her response? "Yes, ma'am, it is". Ma'am. I hung my head, paid for the gift card, and walked out.

Oh, and scrunchies, zubazz, and crocs are all back in style. All we need is hypercolor shirts and my teen years are back in style. Which means it has been way too long since I was a teen..

Not sure scrunchies or crocs were ever a good choice.

I just purged my LAST scrunchie a few weeks ago - found one that I had kept that matched my uniform all those years ago.

And then, all my teenage nieces show up to Christmas wearing them. WTH.

And, all the teenage girls I see at school with my kids or at sports...crocs. The industrial, original ones.

When I go back to my college town to tailgate or even bar hop... And everyone there suddenly looks (and is) young enough to be my child! I may FEEL 20, but at 43 I must look like their mom to them! Ugh! That is not how I see myself at all.

Getting invited to weddings for my college friends’ kids.

Baseball players that were born after I became a fan.

I have insanely thick, coarse hair, not just the amount of hair, the hair itself is thick combined with an extremely tender scalp. Getting even coated rubber bands in my hair was almost impossible, getting them out usually ended in tears and a pair of scissors. Scrunchies were a life (hair) saver for me. I hung onto mine well past their “in” phase and only gave them up when I cut my hair. I was surprised to see rows of them in the hair isle at Target. Came thisclose to buying some for older DD who has the same hair I do.
