Chunkymonkey & Chubbyhubby's Year of Disney PTR! NEW 12/27 THE END and New TR Link!

You two look like you've been having a great time on this trip. I can't wait to read the TR, especially about the Omikase dinner at Morimoto Asia, what you posted online looked fabulous!

I like that I get to be the last one :rotfl:

It was so great meeting you guys! I hope you had a magical trip!!

Have a great trip!!!!

Thank you!!

How Fun! Can't wait to read your trip report for your December trip......as we leave tomorrow too and will actually be activating our AP's for our first year ever as Annual Passholders! I haven't commented, but I love reading your trip reports. I hope we have as much fun this year with our AP's as you all have had with yours :)

I hope you had a great trip!! I thought the parks were getting super crowded by the time we left!

WOW! It's here! Have an awesome trip!

Thank you!!! We sure did :)

I hope it's great and you enjoy it! This used to be hands down my favourite non-nighttime show at Disney. Then I started hearing people saying it was really bad, and when we went back in August and saw it, a lot of the performers seemed to be new (yes, I'd seen it enough times to recognize the actors! haha) and the quality wasn't as good as it used to be. But it seems like it was getting better than some of the bad reviews I'd heard, so maybe they're just still learning and getting into the groove, and by now they will have gotten everything figured out! I hope so, because we're giving it another chance when we go in a couple of weeks if we can fit it in.

Spoliler alert: We never made it! We realized we had to head to the airport a little earlier than I expected so I moved up our lunch at Tiffins and so we had to miss Nemo. Looks like we'll have to go back!

What an amazing year it's been for you guys! We really enjoyed meeting you on our trip! Here's to many more exciting years of traveling to come, both to Disney and elsewhere!

Thank you! It has been an incredible year. I really enjoyed meeting you both and your families! I hope we get the chance to meeting again!!
As always, have a magical trip pixiedust: Cannot wait to hear about it and I too am so very glad we got to meet :goodvibes I look forward to meeting in Disney again, maybe in 2018 even though you say you won't be going!

Thanks Ariane!! As you know...we will be back! Hehe. I don't' have a date set for 2018 but I really want to go for Flower and Garden. It's our favorite time!

Have a blast!

thank you!!

Have a magical time. I am sad to see this will be the last trip for awhile. Enjoy reading your reports. Thank you for being my first Dismeet. I hope to have more on my next trip .

Thank you!! It was great meeting you! I hope we get a chance to meet again! :)

Yes, I think you did! 8 trips with your AP, that's incredible!!! Why have it unless you can milk it for all it's worth, right?! ;) ::yes::

Absolutely I'm trying to get the cost down per minute that I am at Disney at the point it becomes negligible. Of course this excludes food and shopping...

Have (another) great trip!!! :)) I'm very excited about your evening tonight I have to say..can't wait to hear about the food! And the movie! I won't be seeing it until Dec 26 (but at the ipic in Boca :)) So I know I will have a very hard time not seeing the spoilers!!

Thanks Kathy!! I thought the Star Wars Galactic Nights was awesome. I would go again. There was so much we didn't get to do either! You have to pick your battles just like at MVMCP and MNSSHP I guess. But since this was solely focused on Star Wars, it was a little less overwhelming. Hope you like the movie! I loved it, Steve is on the fence...

I know you're there right now and I know what you guys just bought (thanks to Instagram!!!) WOOHOOO!!!!!!

Hehehehe. Thanks!

Hope the 2 of you are having a great time.

Thank you so much! We had an awesome time!!

So jealous you got to see Star Wars at DS! We saw it yesterday morning and I'm not sure how I feel about it yet.

The movie is polarizing...some people love it and some hate it. It's definitely different. I loved it...Steve is on the fence, he has too many questions and keeps talking about plot holes. I am a fan of Rian Johnson so I tend to like most things he does :)

You two look like you've been having a great time on this trip. I can't wait to read the TR, especially about the Omikase dinner at Morimoto Asia, what you posted online looked fabulous!

Thank you!! We had a great time! I'll fill you in on the omakase now because by the time I get to this TR you'll probably be at WDW next year, hahaha. We made reservations using their online form and then they called us back to confirm. We got the date and time we requested. The whole experience is about 2 hours long. You are seated at the sushi counter on the 2nd floor of the restaurant in front of the chef preparing your omakase. We got Chef Alex from Japan who was really nice.
Our first course was a sashimi salad with a spicy korean dressing, then a dish of braised giant clams in a ginger-y broth that were really tender. Then we had about 4 pieces of sushi, some horse makerel sashimi and a tuna hand roll. All were delicious and of great quality. Our next course was Wagyu beef dumplings which were out of this world. Some of the best dumplings I've eaten! This was followed by a seafood hot pot, which is just a seafood soup with lots of fresh ingredients simmering over a flame. The "pot" for the soup was actually a thick paper which does not burn...it was really cool, and the soup was delicious, very clean tasting, not a lot of other "stuff" to mask the flavor of the seafood so it was nice. Chef Alex said this was something they had for the winter months. It was definitely a lot of food at this point and we thought the next course was dessert. But no. About 15 minutes later we were presented with a huge broiled tuna collar. This was served with a side of their korean bibimbap rice. The tuna was delicious, there was some limes as well as a finishing salt you could use if you desired. It was really delicious, with the best parts of the tuna located in that area. The collar was so meaty that some of the fish actually looked like beef and had a brisket texture. We were full but we managed to eat everything! Finally it was dessert and we had a lovely pear torte with a pastry cream dipping sauce which was really good. Overall, well worth the 150 we paid (excluding tax, tip and drinks). I would dare say I would do this again over Victoria and Alberts if I had to choose. It's just more casual, and I really loved all the dishes and that it includes sushi!
For drinks, if you like sake, there is a Morimoto sake sampler which is a good deal. 35 dollars and you get tastings of 4 different sakes with quite generous pours!
Let me know if you have more questions!

Well actually this is very helpful, but the trip that I might possibly enjoy this experience is during F&G 2019 when we take my parents for their second trip to WDW. But with this information, I can start hyping this experience.

Sounds totally awesome!

Was it mixed sashimi? I love clams, and tender giant ones sound great! Even though my sushi at Morimoto Asia were small pieces, it sounds like I might be stuffed after this!

I've only seen Yellowtail Collar in So Cal, but I would absolutely love Tuna as I'm not so much a fan of Yellowtail.

I will reserve judgement on whether I would prefer V&As or this until I've tried it, but I just love Asian food, and your reccomendation is a strong one! But it totally sounds like it's worth it!

I would be all over that! You'll see in my upcoming chapter that my sake choice was something that I totally wrestled with and was lucky our server knew a thing or two and could help me.

Let me know if you have more questions!

One more question....do they ask about allergies and medical issues? Fran can't eat raw fish because of her immune system. Do you think they would either substitute cooked sushi or rolls in her case? We'll normally split tempura rolls, spider rolls, eel, or California Rolls so she can enjoy them with me. She would eat Ebi or Kani, probably not be thrilled with the Egg or Tofu sushi, but she would eat them if served to her.

I'm really thinking this would be a great meal for my parents trip in a little over a year and I'm hoping that we don't have to leave Fran back in the room.

I think it's a very enjoyable meal that is different but still within the heart of Disney!

Was it mixed sashimi? I love clams, and tender giant ones sound great! Even though my sushi at Morimoto Asia were small pieces, it sounds like I might be stuffed after this!

Yes if I can remember correctly the salad had different chopped up sashimi in it. The only other real sashimi we got was the horse makerel. But everything changes seasonally so I'm sure if we went back in a few months it would be different.

I've only seen Yellowtail Collar in So Cal, but I would absolutely love Tuna as I'm not so much a fan of Yellowtail.

Me too! It was our first tuna collar too. It was delicious and so much meat! I like the underside of the collar where the most flavorful tender fish meat is!

It is absolutely worth it for us. They don't take any discounts for the omakase which is fine, but I like that it felt less formal and you can also talk to the chef as he's making your food. I also love all asian foods and this was right up my alley. In NYC I do a lot of all sushi omakase meals but they are pretty much only sushi, and this one is more kaiseki, which is where there are more cooked foods. I enjoy them both but they are very pricey!

I would be all over that! You'll see in my upcoming chapter that my sake choice was something that I totally wrestled with and was lucky our server knew a thing or two and could help me.

It was good for me who is a sake novice!!

Yes they did ask about the allergies. However if Fran doesn't want to do the omakase she can order from the regular menu instead or just have some sushi made especially for her. I'd be curious to see how they deal not serving raw fish. It's only a few pieces of sushi in the omakase so maybe they can substitute. I'd ask when you speak to them when making the reservation. :)

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas/Holiday season and I wish you all a Happy New Year!

I just wanted to share my link to my latest TR: The End of our Chunky Year of Disney... but with a twist! :)

Hopefully I can get that TR cranked out pretty soon and then I can focus on finishing my other TRs!

I wish all of you who are going to Disney over New Year's Eve...GOOD LUCK and have a magical time! (@xlsm I'm looking at you). I'm a little jealous too, hehe.

Looks like there's more Disney in store for us, although we don't anything planned just yet.
Hey @franandaj - what are you dates for your Sept trip? I'm trying to figure out when to go in 2018!

Thank you all for reading along on my Chunky year-long PTR!

I have definitely gotten the "chunky" part down pat, LOL. I feel like all I did was eat and drink, hehe.

Wishing all of you a Magical 2018!!!!

Hey @franandaj - what are you dates for your Sept trip? I'm trying to figure out when to go in 2018!

We get off the Fantasy with Karin, Tom, and four other friends I met through the DIS on September 1 (which is Saturday). We have three nights booked in a GV at SSR after the cruise. We're planning one day of potluck where well just have some time to hang out and party in the Villa and sample everyone's favorite dishes. The parks are going to be pretty mobbed since its Labor Day weekend.

Oooh, I so feel this!! This was the entirety of our last two trips for me! I've already gained back my lost wedding weight, and I looked at some of our photopass pictures from this trip and marvelled at my Disney-food-baby. :rotfl:

Heading over to your new TR...
