Toy Story Land FP question

How far ahead do they usually announce the opening day of a new land? Will they allow us to make FP's when they announce? Do they do tears of FP releases for on site first and then non-onsite stayers? We are going mid-June and really hoping this is open by then and looking forward to seeing it all! TIA

Maybe.
Sometimes they release FP ahead of time.
Sometimes not.

If they do release FP+ early, it would likely
not be 60 days early... maybe not even 30 day early.
They tend to want to get the attraction running with soft openings
to make sure its reliable.

I don't have an answer to your exact question, but I'd like to suggest that, on the off-chance Toy Story Land is open for your trip, I would plan your DHS day as far out as possible during your vacation to up your chances of getting TSL FP+. We went to WDW this past August and I made the mistake of making AK our second day (I was so excited to see it). Because our AK day was so early in our trip, I was unable to book FoP FP+ (I was able to book Nav'i, however). People who were checking in earlier than us had had first dibs on the FoP FP+. I learned my lesson and on our trip just a few weeks ago, I made FoP our 6th day to up my chances of getting that hard to get FoP FP+ and that worked. I'm sure the Toy Story rides will be very popular, so I just thought I would share this strategy.

Does anyone know if the Slinky Dog Coaster is a kiddie coaster or one on par with 7DMT or BTM?

Its not a kiddie coaster. It’s a lot bigger than Barnstormer, but it doesn’t look intense by any means. Seems to be more on par with Big Thunder and more intense than 7dmt

Some nice dips and turns.

Not BTMRR by any means. Think of it as a longer Barnstormer.

I’d say intensity as much as Big Thunder, not track style.

Looks like it’ll be more thrilling than 7dmt
It won't go as fast as you might think. It will have a sense of thrill but I still wouldn't put it on BTMRR level.

My personal feeling is that it will be wonderful if this is true. If it is best described as a "long Barnstormer" then maybe my 2.5-year-old will be tall enough to ride it with us this fall and I would love that :)

Pure speculation here: I suspect TSMM, RnR and Slinky Dog Coaster will be the tier 1. I think the Martian spinner will be tier 2. That is their only chance to spread out the FPs.

If you use pandora as a case study, then both new attractions in toy story will be tier one-- however until pandora, AK never had tiers--so....maybe soon HS can get rid of tiers except for the new attractions? After all, the count is rising and you only get three... Once SWGE opens, this better happen...

I think one of the reasons for Toy Story land happening right now, plus the Mickey re-do of the Great Movie ride, is the realization that there are not nearly enough rides to contain the mass of humanity that will descend on Star Wars land. I think once SW land opens, you might find only the Star Wars rides as tier 1.

I kind of believe this too. Once SW:GE opens you are going to have a devil's choice. One SW FP and 2 from anything else in the Park, or one SW FP, use the rest of your day to wait standby for the other SW ride. Or spend 2 days of FPs on SW and hope like heck you can get one for each SW ride. It's not going to work real well for people doing a 4 day WDW vacation to ride both SW rides. Probably be ok for the AP type people though or the 7 day vacationers and up. The AP people can simply choose a day and know the only thing they are going to do is stand in SW lines but get to go on both. The 7+ vacationers can blow their last 2 days in DHS and hope to get a FP for each ride, maybe in the morning, split a few other DHS attractions, be out of DHS by noon and hope to knock out some stuff at the other parks in the afternoon/evening.

Sounds right-- the best bet will be to just reserve the SW experience package at the resort that hopefully will be available along with the opening of the land-- 2 or 3 days of your trip that you won't need park passes for......
