Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

Whoops! Forgot to include dates. We are traveling March 15- March 24.

I'm feeling like that's where we will end up. I don't know why I have a slightly negative vibe towards the 80's Section. I have no reason to be biased at all! I guess I'm hoping to hear positive things about that area that will help me get past this weird reluctance to stay there.
Why do you have a weird reluctance to stay at POP, if you don't mind me asking?

I think it's already been suggested, but the 80s/90s (and 70s) are pretty centrally located and have standard rooms. I found the 80s to be very quiet. Someone before has said that with the resort being oval-shaped, nothing is really too far from the main building, which I agree with.

I understand the nervousness thing, given that people love to rant about how awful the bus lines are, how terribly crowded (yet spread out!) and noisy and low quality the values are, and the constant chime of "you get what you pay for" whenever there's a discussion on value vs moderate vs deluxe. It's easy to find reviews where the value resorts are unfavorably compared to motels. Not that it necessarily happens on this site, but on Disney blogs, Tripadvisor, etc., you can throw a dart and find somebody on the internet claiming you're going to wake up in a cramped, cockroach-infested room if you stay at a value.

None of which I have found to be true whatsoever. Pop is a really fun resort in too many ways to count! I'm glad to read you're excited for your upcoming trip, and here are a few pointers (YMMV):

-> eating at off times at the food court, whether at Pop or AoA, will help if you want to get in and out quickly. Not that this is resort-specific, just a reminder.
-> walk around the resort at night to see all of the huge figures lit up and take pictures!
-> wander along Memory Lane (walking path around the perimeter of the resort) and read the year marker signs. My favorite is the one for 1986: "$1.1 million is paid for a one minute TV ad on the Super Bowl. Federal budget deficit reaches $2 trillion."
-> walk over to AoA and try their food court, and enjoy their larger-than-life figures outside of the buildings too. So many nice picture opportunities at Pop and AoA!
-> if you're using the resort buses: when returning from a park, hop on an AoA bus if it comes first; the walk over the bridge back to Pop is nice. (obviously, not applicable if you don't want to walk the extra length)
-> if you have Tables in Wonderland, it's good at the Pop and AoA food courts.

Have a great trip!

Thank you so much for this!!! You are so right that I've read alot of "bad" reviews about the value resorts, and that was the only thing that had me a bit nervous. We've had to cancel our upcoming trip 3 times over the past 2 years and we're working real hard to make this one happen. Having said that, I'm reading alot of great tips and things on the boards and other Disney pages so I am truly excited about trying POP out! Thanks for the tips and we'll definitely do alot of resort wandering, we always love to do this wherever we stay. I know my kids will love POP and taking a walk over to AoA as well.

Absolutely, POP is really nice, you won't be disappointed. Everyone has different tastes but POP remains our favorite out of all the Resorts. Yes, the rooms are small but none of the rooms anywhere onsite as large as offsite Hotels, unless you book a suite. And walking to AOA is a bonus. I've gone back and forth between POP and AOA to eat, their food court is really nice. And you can also grab the AOA bus back to POP if you would like. We are excited to be going, and it's coming quick!

We own DVC, have stayed in most of the Deluxes, and 2 of the moderates. We just stayed at POP 12/25-1/1, for a basketball tournament at WWOS. I was a little reluctant solely on room size.

We had a blast! Really enjoyed the resort. Ate at the food court and also went to the AOA food court. I would not hesitate the recommend POP if someone wanted a value resort. We did realize that we do not like eating out 3 meals a day, we usually cook in our villa. But the tournament included 3 CS meals a day.

The room size ended up not being too much of an issue as we were rarely in the room, Basketball games or park every day.

That’s how we always are. We are never in the room so the size of the room really doesn’t matter to us. I care a lot more about what the resort looks like as a whole and how well it functions.

I’m not a morning person until I get to Disney lol. We are the people that stay up until park close and wake up for rd. We are taking our niece this time though so not sure how that will work out
I'm not a morning person either! But the benefits of RD are just too great.

I’m so excited for rd at ak since we got the FP for fop. We’re gonna go to ee first and I just can’t wait to see everyone else go to pandora lol

Re-reading my comment I see how it sounds different than I intended. We have stayed at POP before and loved it! We had a lake view room in the 60's section, top floor. Loved the food court, buses were awesome and on time, had so much fun in the arcade, can't wait to get back! I just meant a reluctance to stay in the 80's/90's section. For whatever reason I have/had this feeling that the 80/90 section was less fun, kind of stale, not retro cool, but more like grandmas house outdated stuff. Earful helped tremendously and I found a video that showed the whole area. Looks very fun and I think my kids will love it! I completed my check in request for 80's section. :-)

So glad you posted in here after your stay. See, Pop is really great. So glad u enjoyed it and thanks for sharing your experience.

I have a question about the refillable mugs when you purchase the DDP. Do you go to the food court and pick one up and then have then scan your band?

I imagine this is a ridiculous question but pop isn't walk up, is it? There are elevators? (If so I'd need to ensure a low floor for my mom)

Thanks!
I figured that was the case but when I've stayed other places with external halls there haven't been so I thought I should check.
