January New Year, New You! Exercise Challenge

40 minutes of walking

160/800

Looking forward to the Han Solo movie and to finishing several projects that have been languishing for some time. Some worries, of course, but not going to dwell on those.

It's great to see everyone posting so much!

70 minutes of walking! 564/2100

Probably more money things than anything. I try not to worry, per se. DH and I have saved $12,000 to buy a used car, and we’re going shopping today. Always a challenge. And plunking down money we’ve saved all year causes me stress.

DD’s school this semester is over $2,500/month. Uggh. We’re working to get her thru debt-free.

Also got a new kitten and following it around house getting lots of steps in LOL

Awwww...we need pictures!

I'm jealous of the people reporting walking minutes. It was waaay too cold here today (negative wind chills and frostbite warnings.) - AccuWeather called it "frigid with sunshine".

I stuck with what I call the "Mensa workout" instead - marching on the mini-trampoline while watching Jeopardy.

15 new minutes, for 185/400.

I did get a 20 minute workout in with my DD yesterday afternoon. We played Kinect Adventure on the Xbox. Today has been a bit busy. My husbands grandmothers pipes froze last night so we headed their this morning to help out. After we fixed her frozen pipes (thankfully they didn't burst) we took her grocery shopping since she has trouble with this right now. After that then we had to do our shopping. So as of right now I have 25 minutes in stepping in the living room with the Wii board while watching football. I am going to do more later while watching Live PD.

175/1375

As for my worries I am worried about a lot. I am a worrier. I worry about not being the mom I need to be, I am worried about the cruise and so much more.

Walking at work, adding in another 30 minutes. Is a 12 hour shift, lots of walking, but not idea how to really calculate it up. So 30 it is :) so Now total is 225/930

Happy Monday! Congrats to piglet1979 and Twilight Sparkle for becoming "Bring It On" Blue and to lovesmurfs, sophy1996, and the Team for reaching Overachieving Orange!

:welcome:Tasha228 welcome to the exercise challenge this month!

Adding 30 minutes for myself today to bring me to 145/660.

Today's questions (since I didn't ask any over the weekend): 1.) What can you do to encourage someone else achieve their goals this week? 2.) How do you plan to relax this week? 3.) What is on your reading list for this year?

I will try to encourage my husband with his new year's goals by making sure I stay on top of our schedules for the week.
I plan to relax this week by watching some movies and reading.
My reading list for the year includes Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, C.S. Lewis's A Grief Observed, Turtles All the Way Down by John Green, and others.

Welcome back, @Tasha228!

No new minutes for me today. (I taught preschool, and I'm tired enough without exercising!!)

1) This week, I'm helping DS reach his goal of being prepared for midterms. - He needs encouragement to break down his study guides into a reasonable schedule.

2) I'm very much looking forward to relaxing by watching "This Is Us"!!!

3) So far, I am reading:
A Thousand Days of Wonder (Charles Fernyhough)
The Disney Book (DK), and
The Walt Disney World That Never Was (Christopher E. Smith)

The first is the library book (about brain development in infants and toddlers) that I was already reading before the year started, and the Disney ones are Christmas gifts that I just couldn't wait to start! (I keep one upstairs and one downstairs. :goodvibes)

"On deck" are:
At Day's Close (A. Roger Ekirch),
In the Light of the Garden (Heather Burch),
Maybe in Another Life (Taylor Jenkins Reid), and
Curiosities of the Finger Lakes (Melanie Zimmer).

The first of those is another library book. I came across the title while reading on line about alternate sleep patterns in the past, and placed a hold that came up sooner than I expected. The other three are more Christmas gifts that I haven't started yet - two fiction and one from a historical series I like (Arcadia Press).

1. I'm signing my daughter up for an ACT workshop. This will hopefully move her one step closer to reaching her long term educational goal of getting into a school with an excellent wildlife biology program.

2. I'll relax like I usually do: read Disboards; read a book; watch This is Us, Gilmore Girls, and When Calls the Heart; spend time with our horses; drink tea; visit our local bookstore.

3. I, too, want to read Turtles All the Way Down this year. Also on the list is Jan Karon's To Be Where You Are, Sophie Kinsella's Finding Audrey, Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock's The Smell of Other People's Houses, and Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs (I started the series last year and it has been bugging me that I haven't finished it). I also plan to look for a collection of Victoria and Albert's letters to each other.

Add my voice to welcoming @Tasha228 back to the group. We've missed you, Tasha!

20-minute walk

We are all about getting ready for the big Antarctica trip here. Little relaxing on the immediate horizon!

I am participating in an online reading challenge, 12 categories for the year (so approximately one per month), including a book translated into English; a banned book; a book of poetry, essays, or a play; and a book that wins a prize in 2018. I've downloaded the apps for my local libraries, and I am trying to load up on e-books since there soon will be a lot of travel time to fill!

I would like to reread War and Peace this year (I read it in college and remember really liking it). It alone would satisfy several of the book challenge categories, so if I manage to get it finished I'll have to figure out which category it is best suited to. Also on my shelf is Marathon Woman: Running the Race to Revolutionize Women's Sports by Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to run the Boston Marathon in 1967. Women weren't allowed to officially run it until 1972, and there's a famous photo of an official trying to grab her bib and physically remove her from the 1967 race. Last year she ran under the same bib number to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1967 run. Finally, I gave a teenage friend The Chaos of Standing Still (set in the Denver airport!) for Christmas. I quickly heard back that it was excellent and I definitely should borrow it back and read it, so I'll be taking that recommendation.

WOW!!!!!! My daughter will be so envious. She wants to be an ornithologist, and her big dream is to be part of a research expedition to Antarctica to study penguins. I have a family member who has been on several research expeditions there already so she has grown up with livestreams from these trips over the years and been able to see the labs, the penguins, other wildlife, ask questions, etc that way but she would love to be there in person one day. Please share photos here when you go. What an adventure that will be!!!

That's great that she has that head start on making her dream a reality!

I'll try to share a couple of photos when we're back (probably in the February thread). I'm really doubtful that we're going to have any reliable Internet on the ship (which is fine).

Sophy1996 that sounds like a great reading challenge :) a fun way to read things you wouldn't normally pick.

ok so more walking at work I will add in 45 more minutes so total so far is 270/930

Should add a lot to that today as I am planning a trip to the park to look for Mickey Straws for a friend's girls LOL. All the fancy souvenirs and they want straws LOL
