Parents of the High School Class of 2017/College 2021

Oh that sucks that the apt was canceled. My DD has an ingrown toenail and the nail looks dead like its going to fall out. Dr. told DD to make an apt so they can take it off. Dr. said two shoes and they remove the nail. Anyone know what recovery time is? It will be done in Dr. office not podiatry office probably cuz nail had lifted and pulled off??? I told dd to get it done but she wants to wait :/ She's going to a concert and doesn't want to get stepped on. She says summer she will get it done. I'm thinking really so let see what happens hopefully she will go during spring break if she can last that long. This winter break has been filled with cough, cold and flu so she needs a vacation just to cover from vacation-lol! Spring semester is going to be a full load for DD. The summer school. I hope it goes by fast. I'm ready for summer

I can't imagine waiting that long to get an ingrown toenail done- whenever I had one it got infected in a short period of time and I couldn't wait to get it taken care of asap! They never had to pull it off though for me - they numbed it, cut a section out and that was it- the pain was gone very quickly once they got the nail out

she had a procedure done like that 4 years ago.It was a bad infection. I took her to foot doctor and the antibiotic didn't work took 2 rounds. He went in and gave shots . then we cut a part off and burned something off cant remember. She had ingrown nail on each big toe. This time she must have waited cause the nail looks like it about to fall off. I tried telling her to get it taken care of. She soaks it and uses a tooth pick to lift the nail. I cant force her, it must not hurt that bad that she wants to wait. If it was up to me I would have set up the apt and made her go in. I know she doesn't want to deal with getting any procedure and healing with spring semester about to start. She will have a full plate so she knows what she can handle. Good thing she has a high pain tolerance. Right now she's finally getting better from cough, cold flu. Glad she got anitobics for it , to bad it took two visits

DD goes back tomorrow, so today (once she finally gets out of bed) we'll spend the day doing errands and laundry so she can be all packed tonight. I didn't realize it would still be hard every time we say goodbye - I thought it would get easier but it doesn't.

In other news, DD has lined up an internship for the summer. She'll be working in a law office three days a week. She's not sure what she'll do on the other days, but at at least it's a start.

DD had a great 1st semester. She was miserable the first few weeks. Then she found a great group of friends. Her classes went well and her grades were great. She came home with a bad chest cold and missed our Disney trip. Dh took her to the dr and she got an antibiotic for Bronchitis. Maybe next time she'll go to the Nurse and not let it get so bad. She worked a ton of hours between Xmas and New Years (pet care place). She has a couple of weeks of break left.

My daughter is really enjoying her time home. The first ten days her bf was home on leave so they were together nonstop. He is gone back now and she started up at her part time job. She goes back to school the end of Jan. She had to empty her dorm out so we need to totally move her back in again. What a pita. She will have much tougher classes this semester. She also has a part time job at school which she is cutting down to two days. She doesn't want to get overwhelmed. She was sick twice at school but only with colds/coughs. She also fell one day and her leg was pretty cut up. She has a nasty scar that will hopefully fade. Anyone else's kids gain weight while they were away. My daughter went from 110 to 120. That's a lot. She's eating better at home and has time to work out so I think she will lose some of it but am wondering if she'll just gain it back again. She is hoping to eat better when she goes back to school.

That's great. My DD worked at a law office starting the summer before her senior year up until college. She loved it. The attorney was a lady who had just left the firm I work at and she just needed a little help as she got started out, with filing and printing. Is your daughter interested in law?

DD will have a graphic design internship next school year. After next school year, she's planning to apply for a Disney graphic design internship. I have no idea what her chances are, but might as well try!

DD left for school this morning. Classes don't start until the 15th, but sorority rush begins tomorrow night. She is really nervous about it! I will be saying a few prayers over this next week for sure. I'll let you all know how it goes.

DS20 doesn't go back for another week. Thank goodness for that because he woke up 2 days ago with a lovely pilonidal cyst. He's been to the doctor for antibiotics, has been taking his warm baths, etc. It started to drain this morning. The doctor said we may not have to have it lanced if it drains on its own. I am really bummed about the situation because he had a previous pilonidal cyst when he was 2.5 years old. After the infection went away, we had it surgically excised, which was supposed to prevent any further flare ups. Old fashioned excise surgery on adults is a huge deal with lots of complications and takes up to 6 months to heal. He doesn't want to do that at all!

Toes, cysts and colds. Ugh, hope everyone is on the mend soon.

Tonight I'm taking DD and her two Bff's to one of those instructed painting places, we are painting Van Gogh's Starry Night, followed by a trip to In-N-out, their favorite late night hangout.

Everyone heads back in about a week. DD will be working part time with Girl Scouts and Game Stop until May, squeezing in a trip to the Pacific NW and then will head to Alabama for orientation. She will return to full time residential Girl Scout camp where she will remain until July. This summer she's opted to try an admin position instead of being in the kitchen.

Then her gap year comes to an end and off to school she goes.

Niece has also been hibernating. She has barely left her bed except to come down for dinner. Lol. It's the hirrible cold snap.

I'm glad to know my dd is not the only one hibernating! She has done practically nothing except watch Netflix over break. She is going back Monday and starts class Tuesday. I guess I can't blame her, she will hit the ground running going back. The second week her design dept is going to NYC to work on some projects with several companies.

BTW, is anyone else already thinking about summer and how your kid can make some money? Dd worked all last school year and saved. I just don't know how much money she could make in a few short months. I am thinking she may need to get a part time job during school next year.

Good luck to your DD - I hope she gets the Disney internship! My DD has no idea what she wants to do (undeclared major right now), but she definitely thinks law is interesting so we'll see.

Good morning everyone! How about a little update?

My DD finished her first semester of college ... alive. Actually, better than alive. She grew up SO MUCH in those few months living on her own. She rode an emotional roller coaster successfully, made some good choices, made some poor choices but seems to be rising above the drama. She broke up with her longtime boyfriend (the one we took to WDW in August) about half way through the semester and it was ugly. One of the girls on her floor slept with him after the breakup and that caused a lot of drama on her floor, causing a group of mean girls to rally against my DD. It became very uncomfortable for my DD because her roommate was really good friends with those girls so my DD decided to move from the floor. Then, the roommate allowed the mean girls into their room while both girls were away studying during finals week and the girls rifled through my DD's things and posted "funny" photos on social media. DD ditched the idea of staying in that dorm because the mean girls will still have possible access to her room if the door is left unlocked and will move to a different dorm in a single. We moved her out in December and will move her back in about a week ... probably in the snow.

She's really loving the whole sorority scene. She will be living in the house next year and she says that she will be looking into a leadership position. I'm so happy that she had the sorority during all the dorm girl drama since her sisters were her rock. I'm sure that she would have been lost without them.

Great news, DD's academics were excellent. I was worried when she chose to go to the UW Madison to begin with. She's always been a good student, but not in the top of her class. The UW is a very competitive university and she barely made it in by the skin of her teeth. I was worried that she would be in direct competition with some of the smartest students in the state (and beyond) and that she needed very good grades to make it into PT school. I was also worried when she dropped Chemistry and changed her major from Kinesiology to Rehabilitation Psychology. BUT ... she did great! Once she shed the Chemistry, she was able to focus on the other classes and kicked butt. She had the grades to be on the Dean's List, but unfortunately had dropped below full time when she dropped Chem so she won't make it. I was especially proud that she got an AB in Calc! Of course, now that she's no longer in Kinesiology, she doesn't need the Calc any more *sigh*. Still, I think that the great grades and at least one challenging class will go a long way to erase any negatives of dropping the Chem.

My DH and I spent 12 days in Orlando. We were in WDW for NYE and my DD stayed home so she could hang with her friends for NYE. She joined us on 1/2/18 and we were together for a week. Unfortunately, I came down with a nasty virus on NYE and spent half of my 5 days at AK Concierge in bed :(. I visited Centra Care twice (co-pay $192 each time -- ka-ching!) and was finally treated for bronchitis and a double ear infection. Fun. I did get into the parks for a few days and my DD was so happy there. She chatted with a lot of the young CMs there and says that she wants to do the College Program and I warned her that it would probably set her back a year because she'll have to take a semester off to do it. I'm actually fine with her doing that if that's what she wants to do. Learning is not a race.

Wow robin, what a semester it has been for her! Glad she has come through with flying colors!

RobinB - So much growth, what an amazing semester, you must be a very proud Mom! So glad your DD has overcome and is trudging forward.
