January 2018 Weight Loss Challenge

Just wanted to stop by and say hello... we are heading back to Disney in June, so I've been back on the message boards to get caught up on everything Disney and wanted to say hi!

It's been a while, but these boards were crucial for me in 2016 when I started my weight loss journey. Nice to see some familiar names!

Hope everyone is doing well!

Has anybody ever used a health coach? I just read an article that went on about how much they help but not sure is worth it. Any thoughts?
here is article I read :) https://www.sparkpeople.com/blog/bl...oach_can_help_you_finally_achieve_your_dreams

I'm with Noom. They have a personal health coach assigned and a group health coach who posts questions in a forum. I basically ignored the personal health coach during the first 3 months -- answered her questions but wasn't really pushed. Now that I'm having some challenges in keeping up the weight loss, she's been able to provide resources and ideas that I really didn't think about, particularly with exercise and strength training. It's helped in terms of accountability.

It's been slow going for me through the holidays. Maintained but really didn't lose anything, even though I've journaled and been pretty much on plan. I just keep plugging along, knowing that eventually the calories in/calories out will catch up and I'll start losing again.

Let's talk snacks today
Are you more of a sweet or a salty type which of these tend to be the most challenging for you.

Bonus what are your top 5 snacks for a Disney Vacation (any park)

I tend to like more salty than sweet snacks. Sweets get to be too much taste wise after a bit, but salty never.

hmmmm snacks at Disney. I like the Mickey pretzels, dole whip, gingerbread (seasonal), popcorn (I collect the fancy buckets), and Beverly LOL. Just kidding about Beverly, we do like going to try all the different sodas at Club Cool. Coming up with snacks is hard. We don't generally snack there. We do get quick meals. My favorite is the mac and cheese :)

Good Morning all! I can't believe it's 10th already, 9 good days s far this month. The thing I asked for pixie dust for - I was told I will find out by the end of next week. I am so hopeful, I really could not do anything more than I already did and if I don't get result I am going to have to make big decisions on what's next. I am also due week hospital stay from 22nd, but it could be shorter. I am trying not to think about it, but ... I guess I want it over and done with it.

I feel little heavy in my thoughts, not heavy as size but things are weighing me down. I just wish that is 1st of February already. Ironically, cooking healthy meals and exercising is nice distractions and keeps me somewhat sane. Stress can go either way with me, but most often isn't trigger for eating too much or skipping gym. It's boredom that kills my diet, celebrations and giving myself impossible high standards and making big deal out of times I don't keep at the level I feel I should. Getting better at it though.

Great workout yesterday, great meals, I managed to keep all my mini goals

Woohoo its Wednesday and a bit of a catch up day for me as I stayed home yesterday not feeling well. I am feeling better this morning but still pretty crabby, which always seems to come along with illness.

QOTD: Snacks = sugar for me. The only time I go for salty is when the snack is sweet-and-salty, which is actually my favorite even over just sweet. Favorite snacks at WDW, hmmmm, I guess I don't really snack all that much when I'm there because there are so many actual meals. I do get a frozen strawberry bar each trip and a dole whip.

Accountability:
Simplify eating
- I did make my casserole and am getting 4 meals out of it. I have juice for another three day cleanse coming, I feel like I need to do it over because I slipped back in to my bad habits so quickly. I also ordered a juicer and am planning on making one meal a day a power juice... I'm thinking I can do enough juice at one time for several drinks, which would qualify for "simpler". I can do mass prep work, cleaning and cutting the veggies and fruit all at one time, which will also simplify the process.
No Starbucks - oh, this technically starts tomorrow so I guess the SB I got for breakfast this morning is my last.
Daily practice - total failure here. I've really been stuck in negative thought patterns focused primarily on my Sister. I know some of it has to do with not feeling well, but there's also some stuff here to work out.
Meditative walks - walked from my bed to the sofa yesterday, but that's about it.

The challenge/course officially starts tomorrow, but a lot of pre-work and conversation has been taking place the past few days. I can already see where the deep work is going to be for me and surprise, surprise (or not) its going to be centered around simple eating because it all hinges on the 'p' word - planning. Simple spending is also going to be a challenge, as I am most definitely an impulse shopper. Yesterday was kind of a lost day as far as getting ready is concerned, but I'll pick up again tonight.

239
240
240 at least i didn't go up..
238 mobetter! :)
238 (actually a few tenths less than yesterday... that works!)

My WooHoo is that I did a presentation at work today and i didn't feel as nervous. I did when it started but this is the stuff I really know and have done for a long time so i got into a groove and wasn't nervous any more. The more I do the better I am getting at them.

I am also woohooing that I am at 50% of my goal so far. I am down 3 pounds with 3 more to go. I am really getting back on track. I am drinking more water and eating better. I am getting workouts in when I can and can't wait to get back tonight. Finally my headache is gone.

Hello. I am new to the forum and just found this thread. I am 51 and I'm a single mom to DD11. We are planning our 4th Disney World trip in May. Our first trip in 2013 was with my, now, ex husband. It was so horrible that I planned a redo trip in 2014 for just DD and I. That's when we got bitten by "the Disney Bug" and dream of going every year. I can't quite afford that so we went in 2016 and are now excited for our 2018 trip.

As stated in the original post, anytime is a good time to start. I actually started some healthy changes last year. I gave up caffeine (diet soda) in April 2017, then all soda in June 2017.

By September, I was searching for a diet that I thought could actually work for me and not just make me miserable for a while and then give up on. I discovered the ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting. I started on Wed, Sept 20, 2017. How's that for a random date? But it was my time and I was inspired!

By December 31st I had lost 31 lbs! My goal is to lose another 30 lbs by the end of May for our Disney World trip. I am already 4 lbs into that second 30 lb goal. After my Disney trip, I'll have another 50 lbs to lose. I don't have a goal date for that just yet, but I'm thinking another 10 months for that!

I used to have an unhealthy addiction to Rolos and other cakes and candies. Now, my go to snack is a handful of Macadamia nuts!

I didn't get to the rec tonight but I made myself do 35 minutes on Kinect Adventure on the Xbox. I am exhausted. That game is one heck of a work out.

ah, it was whoo hoo Wednesday! I completely forgot about it! Here is, I had an extra snack yesterday mid morning but managed to not make big deal of it and remain on track. I need to be able to handle change of plan and occasional treat, I feel it's a proper whoo hoo - learning to handle less than perfect situations.

That's my son's birthday :) OK I have question. I keep hearing about intermittent fasting. What is that?

That's just one result from Google but it gives a pretty simple overview of the concept of IF.

I do the 16:8 method (well, I guess I really do 18:6. I try to get all of my nutrients in between 12p-6p so I'm not eating too late, though I established that before I got a job that regularly has me working 3p-11p, so I could extend that out to 12p-8p and probably be fine) and it's easier for me to manage and I feel better on this method than I did when I was doing 3 scheduled meals and 2 scheduled snacks every day.
