"Stay out of the damn lakes"

Good day everyone, gotta be honest, I have only been listening to the Dis Unplugged podcast for maybe 3 months - only because I really wasn't that aware of it. But now I am hooked and eagerly anticipate the weekly show! My random question is what is the origin of Pete's "stay out of the damn lakes" comment at the end of many shows? No big deal, it's probably obvious but I was just curious

Thanks!!!

A long time ago [like probably over 10 years], the Disney Community was asking about the amoebas and other dangerous possibilities in the waterways around Walt Disney World. A different podcast [one who never finds any issues with Disney] made light of any concerns, laughing it off. When Pete found out about it [I think a listener had asked that question when they used to do the Q&A podcast], he mentioned all of the things in the water that could get you and that it was something to be concerned about. After his little "rant" he made the comment, "Stay out of the damn lakes" . . . and it has stuck ever since.

I think it’s hilarious. I figured it had something to do with the alligators. But yeah, I love alligators & I love the water but you won’t catch me in the damn lakes

Does this other podcaster have the initials “LM”:teeth:

I don't mean to be negative, though. He seems like a genuinely nice guy.
Agreed. I enjoy his podcasts, very informative. But there is a bit of over the top to it. Like you or someone else said - he comes across as Disney can do no wrong. And as much as I LOVE Disney, no corporation is perfect. Always room for improvement and constructive criticism

I’ve swam in the lakes plenty of times, and so far with very limited complications. Maybe that’s why it was made light of, who knows.

Lou has a great show with lots of interesting content. Yeah he doesn’t focus on the negatives, but that’s just his way ...I don’t think it has anything to do with his drinks. Both shows are great for similar, and different reasons ....

And looking back on my post, probably not the best choice of words as I am a frequent drinker of the kool aid myself. In these times there’s absolutely nothing wrong with being positive.

After the tragedy at the GF... The phrase was retired for a while, but I'm glad Pete has brought it back. It is good advice, and for folks like me - we grew up swimming in lakes... Florida is a different animal.
I love alligators and am completely fascinated by them. I am also a lover of the water. I'll go into the ocean without hesitation and have zero fear of sharks even though I know they are there. Swimming in a Florida lake, pond etc..... not gonna happen.

I agree. Every Disney podcast has it's niche, which makes it easier for the rest of us to listen to a bunch of different podcasts. It would be horrible if every Disney podcast had the same style and opinion.
I go to Lou for some great trivia and background stories and I come to the Dis for Disney reality and news (and shenanigans in the producers nook). :jester:

I think the background stories and history of Disney is what has fascinated me most about his podcasts. I've learned a lot lately
