You must be watching a different video than I watched.
Turn your snark detector up to maximum and read it again.

Not sure a public board can set a topic for a public comment. The speaker picks the topic. They certainly could have not called on her, since they KNEW what she was likely to say. Or set a time limit of say 2 minutes, which is what is done at our City Council meetings. BUT, given what I know about the situation, the only wrong doing I see was by the Marshall. The ACLU has entered the situation.
Like I said before, she probably will get a settlement from the school district, from public funds. I suspect the Marshall will be fired. And the Marshall may get a settlement from the school district from public funds for wrongful termination.
np. Sarcasm is often hard to detect without voice inflection and facial expressions. My apologies...long day.

In the video I watched I can clearly hear the audience say that she was recognized and had the floor. The officer escalated this situation without cause and by doing so violated this woman's civil rights. I would see no problem with her seeking whatever legal remedy is available to her.
Why bother having a public meeting if comments and questions aren't allowed?
Weird.
Lots of people are including the very superintendent whose contract they were talking about. He said he wished he'd stood up for her and her right to speak. And yes, I am concerned.
No it was there I just jumped to a conclusion after reading the first line and scanning the rest.
Doubtful it’ll matter here. I work for a school district in another parish (although I’m not a teacher). Teachers asked the board for a raise & they claimed they didn’t have the $. They said they would ask the voters for a mileage to fund it. They put it on the ballot in Nov & it didn’t pass so that’s that they said. This is an area where a lot of ppl don’t utilize the public school system b/c the school aren’t that great. So a lot of the residents don’t want to pay anymore for something they’re already not using. I don’t know much about the area where the video was taken, but that is a common problem in the metro NOLA area. Most ppl using the public schools are only those with no other choice so no one wants to fund the schools. But, that’s a cycle b/c then the schools just keep getting worse.Any chance of this becoming a movement to raise teacher salaries like the #metoo movement?

Local article said that he was sued in another jurisdiction when he was an officer there for excessive force when he slammed a 62 yr old man’s head to ten ground during the arrest. He settled out of court.
Teaching never paid great sums, but it was a good job, 25 years ago, when I started. Now, I would not recommend anyone go into it.
I made less in 2017 than I did in 2005. Now, I did move to a lower cost of living, but if we had to survive on my salary, we wouldn't make it. The pay here is HORRIBLE.
Did you see the Marshall job is his side gig? His full time job is as a MINISTER! Actually cops who are ministers aren't rare, but they usually are more likely to talk someone down rather than slap cuffs on so quickly, at least in my experience.Well they said they were not going to fire the marshall. But you never know. They may end up deciding to let him go with a golden parachute.
Colleen just nailed it in her post above...
Thank you Colleen!
And, good freakin' greif... I was wondering just how long it would take for this to become a forum for teachers and the entitled mentality that many of them have.
If the teachers in that district have truly not had a pay increase in many years and are grossly underpaid, the that is a valid issue, for THEM.
And, for them alone.
That certainly is not the case here, or in many other districts and or States.
And, there are those who equate this with what seems to be a widespread and accepted workplace situation for women (and men, too) who have been abused, and even raped....
Really?
My wife is in her first year of teaching.
I cannot believe the hours she has to put in!
Granted she gets 2 weeks sick time and more vacation time than I'll ever have, but her weekly workload is pretty crazy.
Teachers definitely earn their time off, and the pay does not make up for it. Even the benefits are not as great as I thought that they would be, at least price wise.
We had a chance last April to do a Capitol building tour in D.C. led by an employee of our State Rep. Both the House and the Senate were in session though the House was on recess when we were able to go sit in the room. The Senate was in full session (if you want to call 1 person in attendence full session lol). There was Marco Rubio speaking. Just before he spoke the member before him was speaking and when he was done he up and left the room (guessing he didn't care much at all for what topic Marco Rubio was going to be speaking about). So here was Marco Rubio speaking and the President pro tempore was there who did his part nodding every now and then and moving every now and then but I very much doubt he cared a huge ton about what the topic was by the mostly bored but attempting to not look bored look he had on his face (I'm sure he was wishing he had his cell phone or a computer to putz around on lol). It was sorta amusing though in a cynical way knowing that this is probably what occurs all the time on topics that may actually be quite important to us citizens. Also knowing that the transcripts of that day's topics are probably mostly skimmed at best by other members of the House or Senate.Because it is required, either by law or by the organization's charter. Our schools and city govts. all operate the same way - there is a public comment period, but the board isn't supposed to engage or respond to comments or questions. I'm not really sure what the point of it is other than to maintain an illusion of responsiveness; I've seen board members reading e-mails, texting, browsing social media, and once, dozing off during the public comment period at meetings. They're required to allow the public to speak, but apparently they're not required to listen.
Any chance of this becoming a movement to raise teacher salaries like the #metoo movement?
