Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER RESORT Information & Questions

Last July we stayed at POR for a resort-only stay before our beach vacation and DH fell in love with POFQ so when I asked him where I should book for our next vacation between CSR (my favourite) and one of the PO resorts, he chose POFQ.

Therefore, will stay at POFQ for the first time December 29 2028 - January 4 2019!!!

What is this refurbisment happening?!?

We will be at POFQ at the end of February. I too am very curious as to what will be refurbished in the rooms.

We're staying at POFQ March 12-16, 2018. I hope anyone lucky enough to get a refurbished room before then posts pictures. If it's anything like the POP refurbishment I will be super happy. We stayed in one of those refurbished rooms in October and the USB outlets, laminate flooring, and extra storage were fantastic!

We were at POFQ from Dec 18-22, and loved every moment of it. It was our first trip to WDW, and I just walked in with low expectations, and was so happy I did because everything was great. We arrived at 10:30am and I wasn't expecting our room to be ready, but the alert came to the CM while I was speaking to her that it was all set. As we're Canadian and used the Cdn ticket discount, I was expecting when we arrived to HS we would have to go Guest Relations to show our passports to get our tickets activated, but again Front Desk surprised me and said there was no need as our tickets were already activated. They also had our stroller that we rented ready for us, and whatever parcels that had shipped.

I used Touring Plans to put in a request for Building 4 and on the ground level as we had a stroller, and we got both requests. It was a standard room, technically facing the parking lot, but in reality all you could really see was the courtyard and its greenery. The room was larger than I expected and more than enough space to store our 2 suitcases, 2 carry-ons, and a double stroller. The room was clean, the beds were great, the water pressure was fabulous in the shower, and we heard no noise when we slept. It was a 30 second walk from our room to the food court, a 1 min walk to the laundromat and to the bus stop. We didn't take advantage of the pool, but it would have been a 1 min walk there too!

After we saw our room, and dropped our carry-on, we went to HS for our first park day. When we returned, our luggage was waiting for us, and Bell Services came by to drop off our groceries we purchased.

As for the bus to/from POFQ, we rarely waited more than 10 mins for our bus, and it was always empty and never shared with another resort. When we went to Epcot for its EMH morning, there was a long line up and i was seriously contemplating calling an Uber as I didn't think we'd get on the bus. We didn't, but lo and behold, TWO buses to Epcot came back to back so everyone was able to get on! And another time when we wanted to RD for MK, the wait times weren't posted on the TV screen, but there was a CM there who told us a bus was coming, and it was a DME cruise line bus that picked us all up - it was definitely a comfortable ride to our first day at MK!

All in all, I had a great time at POFQ.

Sorry for this post, it ended up being much longer than I expected!! :)

I’m weak. I got excited thinking about how close my 11/3-11/7 trip was to the first Christmas party that I changed the dates to 11/5-11/9 so we can hit the party(going by last year’s start date, of course). I’ll be arriving the day after my birthday but whatever, I’m getting a birthday pin anyway. Plus since we’re bypassing the weekend on both ends we actually save on airfare. I feel good about this decision lol. I’m just glad there was still space available at FQ!

We just returned from a Dec 31-jan 4 stay. It was a great time. Hopefully they have a New Year countdown party again. It was definitely fun! Enjoy!

I hope they do! It will be our first trip during the Holidays and our main goal is not to do everything but to simply enjoy our favourites with FP+ and the Holiday offering. For now my plan it to do MK on Dec3 0 and EPCOT Dec 31. Usually I book our resorts with promotions and I could never book POFQ since it's almost always excluded but this time I don't expect any promotion during the Holidays so it made sense to book POFQ!!

We have been staying POFQ for the past 10 years and this year is the first time they aren't available for our October dates. Checked Disney website, only Riverside. Looked on Virgin holidays and they had it but we faffed around that much that a week later it had gone.
CBR has so much construction that I wouldn't even consider it. It is way cheaper on UK site than POFQ, and I know that we will be at the parks during the day, but it's not a resort that has ever appealed to me.
What week are you going? I just booked it for Oct. 13-20.

Any word on any compensation for the construction? Currently on the first floor of a building that is refurbing floors 2 and 3 and woke up to the sound of what sounded like a hammer repeatedly being dropped. I know other resorts offered comp or gift cards.

ETA: currently back for an afternoon break and good thing I had no plans of napping because that would be impossible.

No idea about compensation i'm afraid but could you tell me which building is currently being refurbed - I can change my request accordingly!? Thanks!

How long do they expect the room refurbishments to take place?

From portorleans.org, an estimate http://www.portorleans.org/rehab.php

The planned dates for the upcoming Port Orleans French Quarter guest room soft-goods refurbishment project over the first half of 2018 are as follows. Please remember that this schedule may be subject to minor changes:

In order to minimise disruption the work will be undertaken on a floor-by-floor basis for each building, starting on the third floor and working down to the ground floor. There should be very little impact to guests staying in the other buildings, and no one will be allocated to a room on a floor that is currently under construction. However it is possible that guests may be allocated to rooms on other floors in the same building, depending on occupancy requirements at the time.

Thanks, they should be done before we go in October!
