2018 Princess Half Marathon

my heel is niggling at me but I have to do 6 miles tomorrow

I have listened to reason (my boyfriend) and am doing my long run tomorrow instead. My heel doesn't feel plantar fasciitis bad (I had that a few years ago) but it has a recurring soreness that I just can't shake. ugh.

Yes! I have done a 10 miler and a 15k trail run race, and I enjoyed them both. However when it's just me and 9-10 miles? I hate it. I am bored and music sucks and I don't like having to load myself up like a camel because I live in FL so I HAVE to have enough fluids, etc. After 8 miles I am over it if it's not a novel atmosphere.

Have you tried listening to a podcast or book? I have gotten to where I prefer those over music on my easy run and long run days. I love true crime stuff and have been listening to Casefile. I get wrapped up in the story and the run seems to just fly by.

I totally second audiobooks!

I never used to be able to listen to audiobooks because I would get distracted (I am a very visual person). And then when I was running, I would zone out to music and get bored. And recently I put those two thoughts together and started listening to audiobooks when I run and like @wallskm said the miles fly by.

I second this recommendation. I was skeptical at first, but after growing to hate every song on my running playlist (which sucks, because I used to love them, lol), I began listening to "The World of Ice & Fire" by George R. R. Martin and I get so engrossed in it that I don't want to stop! Well...most of the time, haha. It's a history of the world of Game of Thrones. For fans of the series/books, it's written as if the maesters at the Citadel wrote it, and is narrated by two of them, with the actor who played Grand Maester Pycelle on the tv show reciting the portions he wrote.

I tried listening to stand-up comedy, but found myself laughing as I ran, and then I just looked like a crazy lady. But, for what it's worth, it was a nice change from listening to music.

after falling off the training wagon, i'm back at it again! my best friend and i signed up for the challenge early last year with the early registration and skipped out on the 5k... once i saw the medal was rapunzel i had major FOMO! luckily, last weekend she texted me while at the marathon weekend expo to pick up her volunteer packet.. they had less than 10 spots available for the princess 5k with a room reservation. she's local, so we booked the cheapest option which ended up being a campsite to split the price and snagged ourselves two spots! i'm SO EXCITED. i've done the challenge for the last two years, but this will be my first disney 5k! we're going as rapunzel and flynn for the 5k, pajama princesses for the 10k - i'm really excited about this one... comfort and style! and haven't figured out our half costumes yet since we've got an indecisive group. what about you ladies?

I am going as Aurora for the 10k, it was going to be my costume for the WDW half marathon last year that was cancelled. I ended up running the full marathon instead but it was so much colder that day than it was going to be for the 1/2 and I didn’t have anything to wear under it that matched. I wore it anyway but looked ridiculous since the clothes underneath clashed horribly. So this year I have cold weather clothes that match just in case!! The aurora costume will finally get the wearing it deserves. My friend and I are running the 1/2 and she’s going to be Ariel and I am going to be Ursula .

me too!! I.. don't really have my costume sorted. I have leggings that have tentacles on them but aside from that I don't really know what I'm doing haha

I bought my costume from rock city skirts on Etsy! Of course iglowRunning has cute ones too.

Has anyone heard news about commemorative merchandise? Specifically Princess dooneys? Last year the information was released January 2nd according to my email date...

Anyone have any idea where I can buy a white flowy tank top for the race? I have a few friends with a cricut machine and want to replicate a t-shirt I have for the parks after the race, but want a tank top version for the race.

They were available for purchase even before that. I preordered my Princess Dooney on December 21, 2016, for last year's Princess weekend. I haven't seen anything about them yet this year.

I am also an audio book fan!

DD18 and I are doing Rapunzel and Mother Gothel for the 10K, and just sparkle skirts and tanks for the half. Comfort wins there.

DD was bummed when she saw that Tangled was the 5K theme as that is her favorite. My TA doesn't have any bibs though. :-(

I bought myself an early birthday present and got a Garmin 230. I'm so excited! This replaces my old Garmin 305. I can't believe how light they are now and how many cool new features it have. Hopefully I have enough time to get used to the different buttons and stuff!

I'm doing some googling. Tell me about the benefits of using a garmin. Can it connect to apps and tell me when to run/walk? I'm trying to decide if some sort of watch or fitbit or something will be a good fit for me.

I got a Vivoactive 3 for Christmas and I love it. It is an activity tracker, it gives me notifications from my phone, it has an interval timer, and it tracks my pace and distance. It is my new favorite thing.

Hope your long run went well! I'm currently battling plantar fasciitis and it stinks :crazy2: But I got in 8 on Saturday (walked mile 4, and ran/walked miles 7 & 8). Actually didn't feel too bad, and was fine yesterday, when I thought I'd be really sore. The thing that has helped the most for me is the stretching exercises my podiatrist gave me - have to be consistent and it takes a lot of time, but I can really tell the difference. Good luck!

I remember ordering mine in December also. I found them on active.com first so I keep checking there and still nothing. I was really hoping they would have already done a preorder by now so it would have been one more thing I would have paid for already!
