I have wanted to try all of the places you reviewed. Have you tried the Mickey dome cake at Amorettes? I think we will try it in February, The Polite Pig is getting some good reviews now. Initially it was not. The seasonal cake looks so cute sorry it didn’t taste good.

When we got there the restaurant was packed full of people waiting, but when we showed our Landry's card they said: "I hope you don't mind the wait but there's one party in front of you with a Landry's card". :rotfl: No problem!

We were called in about 10 mins, with an ADR we still probably would've had to wait 20+ mins past our time to get in judging by the crowds.
Isn't the Landry's card just wonderful!!!!! We've had the exact same experience as you a few times now and no chance I'd ever go back to an ADR there.

The only way I know how to describe this is unbearably salty. Josh made his first lettuce cup, and he thought he put too much sauce on it and the sauce maybe was a bit salty so when I made mine I put only a drop or 2 of sauce, and it was still soooo salty. I ended up trying the chicken plain, and I think it was just how they seasoned the chicken. We couldn't finish this because it just didn't taste like anything besides salt.
These look great, but sorry it was so salty. I'm sure that was not pleasant to eat.

Last time I got this burger I didn't like it. I thought it was overcooked, and I opted out of the toppings. But I've heard so many good reviews about it I decided to give it another chance, with all the toppings on it like intended.
Glad to hear this turned out so much better for you this time around. Jason has contemplated getting this a few times, but the asian options usually end up pulling him in. I hope he does order it one day so I can try it, as there is no way I could order anything but the tuna nachos here

The description doesn't really mention the strawberries, but they're in there too. This is so amazing. The cream cheese wontons are like little cheesecakes, and the honey, vanilla sauce is the most amazing thing ever. It's addictive, I wish I could put it on all desserts.
Ahhhhh, desert perfection!!!!

eriously, AK and AKL have some of the BEST dining on property. :lovestruc

(Ahh the talking tree :rotfl:)
OMG you are taking me down nostalgia street. I'd totally forgotten about this restaurant. We had one that was only open for a few years, but from what I recall they were trying to jump on the Outback bandwagon with a wilderness motiff. And of course a talking tree :-)

I loved it! Although this is my first time having poutine so I didn't have anything to compare it to. (Well actually I once had Disco Fries but those are not the same thing and this was way better). It was a little strange at first as usually I associate gravy with turkey gravy, and I've never had a cheese curds, but I ended up really liking it. It was nice to have something to eat that was warm and hearty because it was cold out and I ended up sitting near the door in the Polite Pig while Josh got his food so it was still a bit chilly.
Oh, these look so good. We got some poutine at Nomads on our trip and this looks infinitely better.

I would come to regret not ordering a different cake since most of this one went in the garbage
Sorry this was such a bust. It looks gorgeous. Too made it didn't taste the same.

Yay! First real poutine! One of us! One of us! :) Glad you liked it. It's really an excellent combination of savoury flavours :)

I would come to regret not ordering a different cake since most of this one went in the garbage. It was the first Amorettes cake I've ever had that I disliked (the seasonal one last Christmas was so good!) The outside was definitely not icing. It was like a giant gummy? It says that nowhere, and in something I read they only described it as icing, but there's no way that's what it was. It was sticky, incredibly chewy, and didn't taste good at all. Mixed with the gummy outside the inside flavors were incredibly weird. The bourbon was overpowering, and it basically just tasted like bourbon and gummis. Gross. Luckily after the holidays I doubt this cake will be coming back, so my warning to steer clear of it probably isn't necessary.

This is disappointing because it's so pretty!! But it sounds really strange the way you've described it. Gross. :(

Just getting caught up with your report now! A definite WOW to the mac'n'cheese at Homecomin', that looks amazing! Really too bad about your experience at Ale and Compass, I would have been so frustrated. And the waitress's weird behaviour with the cheque, what was that about? Even though I am Canadian, I have never tried Poutine. I just can't get past the gravy part, lol! Polite Pig looks really good too. That dessert at Amorette's certainly did not live up to expectations at all.

I loved the gravy and fries but I just couldn't get on board with the cheese curds. Too squeaky.

This looks so pretty!! I can see how it would taste gummy and chewy though. Such a waste of a good cake!

Those fries looked so good still haven't tried the Polite Pig
How disappointing about the Ornamental Dome cake it looked so pretty but gummy yuck
The holiday display is pretty

We're back from our 6th Disney trip, and ready to talk about food! We’ll cover it all: The delicious, the awful, and everything in between. We review food from both an allergy and a non allergy perspective since Josh is gluten free and I'm not.

(And if you were wondering how we skipped from 4 to 6 trips, I didn’t write a DTR for our last trip because it was a long weekend at Universal, but I still talked about food in the TR).

If you want to follow along on my TR it's here:
"Kurt Russell Read Us the Story of Christmas" Dec 2017-Xmas/Bday TR

My name is Raeven, and here I am chowing down at one of my favorite Disney restaurants; Chef Art Smith's Homecomin'. I'm 25 years old. I'm the planner, photographer, vlogger, and DTR writer for our trips.

My food likes include pasta, dessert, burgers, nachos, steak, and trying all kinds of french fries. I’m not a fan of BBQ, and I don’t eat seafood. This trip my goal was to finally try poutine, and as always to try new restaurants and order all the food I'd been drooling over in preparation for this trip.

Favorite QS Restaurant: D-Luxe Burger
Favorite Snack (this trip): The Daily Poutine
Favorite Signature restaurant: Shulas
Favorite Non Signature Restaurant: Homecomin'
Favorite Buffet: Boma (breakfast)
Favorite Bar/Lounge: Trader Sam's, Territory Lounge

My trip partner is my boyfriend, Josh. He just turned 32, and is gluten free due to an allergy. His food likes include steak, BBQ, burgers, and Erin Mckennas donuts. When I asked for his food dislike he said "Trails End" :rotfl:but also most veggies. As he did last trip, he found a new favorite food on this trip.

Favorite QS Restaurant: D-Luxe Burger
Favorite Snack (of all time): Erin Mckennas
Favorite Signature restaurant: Jiko
Favorite Non Signature Restaurant: Yak and Yeti
Favorite Buffet: Boma (breakfast)
Favorite Bar/Lounge: Trader Sam's, Jock Lindsey's

As usual we did end up changing some food plans when we got there, and missed out on some things we had been planning, but we also tried new things.
This DTR will have signature dining, Festival of the Holiday booths, a dessert party, Disney Springs dining, new snacks, 2 reviews from a brand new restaurant, some old favorites (where we tried some new things, lots of new (to us) restaurants, and a little bit of dining outside Disney!

HmShzqpl.jpg

Since everyone seemed to like when I added some of our Universal dining in the last DTR, I'm going to add that into this one too as well along with some dining we did before leaving/at the airport.

We ate at:
Following!!

I might get kicked out of Canada for divulging this...but sometimes I make poutine at home with mozzarella, and I think I kind of prefer it that way. Shhh! Don't tell! :P A lot of non-speciality places around here make it with mozza, too, since cheese curds aren't as readily available. So it's definitely an option if you're not a cheese curd fan.

Haha I won't tell Trudeau on you! I'm pretty sure that's basically what disco fries are but I could be wrong. Those aren't a big thing in PA. I do want to try the poutine at Le Cellier this year.

I had disco fries from a local tex mex place and it was basically their cheese fries with turkey gravy on top, but it's possibly they make them differently elsewhere. It didn't taste at all like the poutine in DS, but that seems to be the only version I can ever find in NY. The poutine at Le Cellier looks good too!

My grandmother got one of the poutines from Le Cellier on our last trip. I think it was the Montreal Poutine. It looked really good!

Daily Poutine/Polite Pig/Amorettes

Since we were seeing a movie at DS and weren't super hungry we decided to grab some QS.
I decided to go with something I really wanted to try on this trip:

I'm usually a lurker but when I saw your poutine I had to comment since I'm from Quebec, birthplace of poutine! Finally a poutine that looks like a real one at WDW! Cheese curds are fresh cheese. We often buy them fresh of the day and they are so good (they are usually sold at room temperature if very fresh -- once stored in the fridge they are not as good). A poutine with grated or cubed cheese is sacrilegious! lol.

That poutine looks bomb! I wish I had an opportunity to try it, but on our next visit, we're only going to DS once and it's for dinner at STK, so I doubt I'll be able to fit it in. :(

Hi Raeven! Polite Pig is also on my radar...Sorry the dessert at Amorettes wasn't good. I'm on the fence about that place...I seem to read a lot of negative reviews...It seems the cakes look better than they taste...

When we got there the restaurant was packed full of people waiting, but when we showed our Landry's card they said: "I hope you don't mind the wait but there's one party in front of you with a Landry's card". :rotfl: No problem!
Maybe I should get this before our trip. I didn't for September because our birthdays don't work to use the rewards lol.
Here’s a candid reaction to the lettuce cups :rotfl:
:crazy2:
Our server had a very good suggestion that really helped bring this burger to another level, he asked if I wanted a slice of smoked gouda cheese on my burger since that would work perfectly with it. Adding cheese to things? I like the way he thinks! :thumbsup2
Cheese! Sounds delicious!

Yummm... I love poutine.
Minus the sides because I don't think most or any are GF (I'm not sure because I wasn't in line with him if none of them are GF or he just didn't want any). Because he didn't have any sides they took some off the price too because it's sold at a set amount due to the included cornbread and side.
It's nice that they adjusted the price. So many places don't.

Bummer about this. It's so pretty!
I did love Amorettes Christmas display of DS though:

This was so neat, I saw it through the doors and drug Zack in to see. We haven't had anything from here yet.

I'm NOT saying I lied about my birthday. Of course not. Never. But they will not check your ID at any point to prove you chose the correct birthday month. It doesn't matter to them since they only have to offer you one birthday reward a year regardless. Just in case birthday fraud appeals to you. ...It totally didn't appeal to me. At all.

I got this dessert to take back to eat at the resort. I also really disliked this dessert and threw it out. Way too boozy and overpowering to me, but I don’t remember anything gummy. Again, sometimes I avoid the outside, especially any sort of fondant. I always need to buy a variety of desserts each time I visit Amorettes, so thankfully I had 2 more desserts in the resort minifridge to eat instead!
